Another "Hans Zimmer: Crafting The Score" MAN OF STEEL Featurette Released

Regardless of whether you loved or hated the movie, there's no denying just how impressive composer Hans Zimmer's score for Man of Steel was. In this latest featurette, we see him and solo violinist Ann Marie Calhoun talking about the violin work in the reboot.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman
Amy Adams as Lois Lane
Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent
Diane Lane as Martha Kent
Michael Shannon as Zod

good score, but I'm preferring his Dark Knight Trilogy score over this one. Guess I'm more of "cynical" type of guy :)
SnapperCarr - 6/26/2013, 12:05 PM
Both scores were good
GodzillaKart - 6/26/2013, 12:05 PM
Great score! Really captured the inspirational/emotional tone Superman needs.
englandlover77 - 6/26/2013, 12:06 PM
I love Hans Zimmer, but the score sucked!
GUNSMITH - 6/26/2013, 12:07 PM
valeriesghost - 6/26/2013, 12:08 PM
I enjoyed the score and thought it was perfect for the movie
dekexz19 - 6/26/2013, 12:10 PM
The score was great!
FreedomFreeLife - 6/26/2013, 12:11 PM
score was weak.
FreedomFreeLife - 6/26/2013, 12:11 PM
avenegers, iron man 3 and the amazing spider-man had better score
blvdnoise - 6/26/2013, 12:17 PM
The music in this film was amazing..
hartley07 - 6/26/2013, 12:19 PM
if you can spot the inspiration from the old superman music, you get a star. i can :). can you get all 3 similarities?
TheSonicScrew - 6/26/2013, 12:21 PM
Score was phenomenal. Anyone who thinks it lacked a 'main theme' needs to listen to "What Will You Do When You're Not Saving The World?" again....and holy shit, the battle theme ("Arcade") was insanely epic. I came away whistling it.
Wingding - 6/26/2013, 12:23 PM

I literally can't even process the complete nonsense that you just commented.
subzero1077 - 6/26/2013, 12:23 PM
Loved the score to Man of Steel. Sooooooooo good.
subzero1077 - 6/26/2013, 12:25 PM
@FreedomFreeLife - I don't remember the music to any of those movies. At least Raimi's Spider-Man had Danny Elfman, that was way more memorable.
SUPERSHADOWBAT - 6/26/2013, 12:27 PM
Really good score. Picked up the CD, has nice extras. Steel case version.
thewonderer - 6/26/2013, 12:27 PM
Fantastic score. One of the best of all time.

Notice how those saying otherwise are Marvel fans. They're definitely jealous no Marvel film has a score or theme a tenth as good as this.
Nubase - 6/26/2013, 12:30 PM
was listening to it at work today, its a really cool soundtrack, inspriring to be honest.
Ceejay - 6/26/2013, 12:32 PM
Hans Zimmer's Man of Steel score was outstanding, a way more sophisticated piece than the usual routine of main theme march repeated in various arrangements plus love theme. The piece that plays at the end Johnathan Kent scene and into the credits is the nail-on-the-head piece, it literally smacks it out of the ball park!
EdgyOutsider - 6/26/2013, 12:35 PM
I'm going to have to agree with FreedomFreeLife on this one. Avengers and The Amazing Spider-Man had memorable scores. The Amazing Spider-Man being the most memorable since John Williams Superman score. Simply put, I love Danny Elfmans work but he and Hans Zimmer has yet to create a score that stuck with me after I left the theater.
FreedomFreeLife - 6/26/2013, 12:42 PM
Wait, there was music in Man of Steel? Not even memorable.
I still remember lots of music from Avengers and from TASM.
FreedomFreeLife - 6/26/2013, 12:43 PM
Score does not only mean main theme, but music itself in movie!!!!
MOS main theme was so quiet, only last 30 sec was high, but still, its BAD
exe - 6/26/2013, 12:43 PM
@FreedomFreeLife, you fool. Clearly you don't know music or have bad taste. The Avengers there had a good main score, but that's it. Just "good" or "average". Iron Turd 3 and ASM both have nonexistent themes. Utterly forgettable. Plain as shit. They didn't even bother.

MOS score is epic and Zimmer is just boss.

Supes hasn't earned his main theme yet. So in tradition, accdg to Hans, just like TDK trilogy, he will get his in the sequel.
Jacad - 6/26/2013, 12:44 PM
didn't care for the score at all, but Ann Marie Calhoun is amazing. loved hearing her insight on the intricacies of that special violin.
FreedomFreeLife - 6/26/2013, 12:45 PM
exe is so wrong, you talking with yourself becuase it got 56% at RT. Its bad.
thewonderer - 6/26/2013, 12:47 PM
The Amazing Spider-Man has quite possibly the worst score of all time.

Its down there for sure. Original Spider-Man beats it by miles.

James Horner Vs. Danny Elfman? GTFO TASM fans
FreedomFreeLife - 6/26/2013, 12:49 PM
says a guy who is TASM hater. Hater of cause hates everything.
FreedomFreeLife - 6/26/2013, 12:51 PM

hows that bad? you said worst score of all time. troll is troll.
thewonderer - 6/26/2013, 12:55 PM
It sounds like the music you hear when astronauts reach space for the first time.

Nothing like how Spider-Man should sound at all.

Also, its generic as [frick]. It's a regular boring rising in level theme. That's all it is.
thewonderer - 6/26/2013, 12:57 PM
You're telling me its better than this?

This one has layers of depth. It changes in level. It's not just uplifting. It gets tense, it gets passionate, you can feel the constant differing struggles of Spidey through it.
MarkV - 6/26/2013, 12:57 PM
God, I LOVE the soundtrack. Picked it up at Amazon.
FreedomFreeLife - 6/26/2013, 12:59 PM
You are [frick]ing idiot. Score means music in [frick]ing movie, not just a main theme. There was nothing else than just a main theme in older spider-man.

Again, MOS did not have any music.
DavieboyW - 6/26/2013, 1:01 PM
Got to be one of the most inaccurate headlines ever!

To say that 'there is no denying how impressive the score is' seems to be ignoring the large numbs of us who find it to be bland, generic action scoring with very little heart or identity.

Everyone entitled to their opinion, but not quite right to think its universally appreciated when its probably the most divisive score in many years.
Jacad - 6/26/2013, 1:08 PM

I loved Horner's score for TASM as well, but even I have to admit that Elfman's music was a better fit for Spidey.
SupLezz - 6/26/2013, 1:09 PM
damn that violin is worth more than 15 million dollars.. it's mind blowing that it was made in 1728
113 - 6/26/2013, 1:09 PM
Love the soundtrack. I may have to buy the deluxe version off Amazon too. It has extra tracks that are really good.
FreedomFreeLife - 6/26/2013, 1:11 PM
@Jacad Elfman music had only main theme better, but everything else in movie was so quiet and not even remember anything from it. Only main theme was better.
lucio7lopez - 6/26/2013, 1:12 PM
@FreedomFreeLife - Nobody (except you) remember the music to any of those movies.

For other side, MoS sountrack is awesome!! Hanz Zimmer create a new score for the legendary Superman, just like John Willians did thirty years ago.
Jacad - 6/26/2013, 1:14 PM

idk man, I remember the themes for Goblin, MJ, and the sad piano track "Alone" quite well. =)
FreedomFreeLife - 6/26/2013, 1:16 PM
