BOX OFFICE: Zack Snyder's MAN OF STEEL Already Breaking Records Internationally

Man of Steel opens in North America at midnight tonight, but the Zack Snyder helmed reboot has already started rolling out internationally and has broken records in one confirmed location so far. Read on for details on that and its predicted performance domestically this coming weekend.

Man of Steel opens officially in North America at midnight and will then be screened from Friday at an incredible 4,207 locations across the country. 850 of those are 2D only, while the rest will be a combination of 3D and 2D. In a bid to combat rival studio estimates of an opening weekend of $95 - $100 million, Warner Bros. are predicting a rather conservative $80 million for its first three days of release. However, it's thought that the added 3D ticket price may help it exceed these numbers, although a big part of that will also come down to word of mouth (Man of Steel may have received a mixed response from some critics, but the majority of fans who have been lucky enough to already see it have had nothing but good things to say). Advance ticket sales are strong and the film will also open at several key territories this weekend before debuting at an additional 26 next week. Ultimately, Man of Steel will be shown on 21,000 screens internationally. It has in fact already opened in the Philippines where it shattered their all-time box office record to become the biggest opening day ever with $1,657,532. Stay tuned to CBM for further updates!

Hopefully this gives WB faith in other DC heroes that aren't Batman so they can get solo films.
thewolfx - 6/13/2013, 5:22 AM
Take that up the ass you negative reviewers
blvdnoise - 6/13/2013, 5:23 AM
It is time......
AmazingFantasy - 6/13/2013, 5:26 AM
It better be [frick]ing good
AlexanderLykins - 6/13/2013, 5:30 AM
Marvel's The Avengers 2 will break that record. I can't wait to see this movie. It's definitely better than it's Rotten Tomatoes rating. It'll do well in the box office but it won't make over a billion.
hummingbird68 - 6/13/2013, 5:31 AM
Really looking forward to seeing this on Friday, will be walking in with a positive outlook for the Superman movie we have been waiting years to see.
Nubase - 6/13/2013, 5:37 AM
The comic book movie industry needs a superman movie, a good one and man of steel is it.

Now that he is here, it will only be a positive thing cos every cbm going forwards will up to up their game now and it's a good thing
thenerdicon4 - 6/13/2013, 5:38 AM
where DEV at? The guy who said that NO ONE wants to see a Superman movie anymore/ Hold on, what was that Dev. I cant hear you over all this money MoS is making.
Scuzz - 6/13/2013, 5:39 AM
60%. I have to commend DC fans for outdoing even Marvel fans in denial. If i was really invested in this film i would start to worry.

I wouldn't start to claim that reviews are meaningless when they conflict with what you want. How much you wanna bet that if the score was 95% you would be telling everyone you could. reviews wouldn't be so meaningless then would they?
JoeMomma29 - 6/13/2013, 5:39 AM
I am excited to see it tonight. It sucks that the critics are being very harsh, but of course after I see it tonight I will decide if those critics are correct or not.
thewolfx - 6/13/2013, 5:40 AM
Its funny cus these critics fail to realize that the general audience plus superman fans just wanna see a badass superman movie for the firts time ever

That only spells success

I say haters are [frick]ed
JoeMomma29 - 6/13/2013, 5:41 AM

Of course that is how it works, everyone wants some validation for something they have been waiting for a long time.
rebellion - 6/13/2013, 5:45 AM
some critics dislike it just because they think it makes them look more sophisticated and hard to please. come on, they complain about too much action. what were they expecting, titanic?! the only opinion that matters to me is my own.
OtakuPapi - 6/13/2013, 5:45 AM

You lucky bastard!
JoeMomma29 - 6/13/2013, 5:50 AM
What ever problems exist with this movie and I am sure there are some, DC/WB need to take heart and correct those mistakes for the second movie.

CapemA - 6/13/2013, 5:50 AM
Imagine that, an article about MOS and here come the pussy trolls.

I think I'll go read about Cap 2. Oh wait, the pussy trolls are there too.

Get a fuggin life. Be glad we are getting these movies. I am more of a Marvel fan, but I hope MOS does great. I hope there is a shared DC Cinematic Universe. Stop with the trolling you pathetic losers. Try something new, get out of your mom's or grandmother's basement and become useful to society. Who knows? You may enjoy life in the real world. You may even get the opportunity to be naked with another person who isn't your parent or grandparent.

Go get em MOS!! Here's to the beginning of what hopes to be the start of more DC movies! Here's to the possibility of Batman, Superman and co. being together on the big screen!!
InfiniteMonkey - 6/13/2013, 5:51 AM
Congratulations Superman!
Oh and Wow The Philippines!
AxeEmAll - 6/13/2013, 5:52 AM
I have seen the movie twice here in the Philippines. For you to understand the story, you have to listen carefully to the dialogue and read the non-verbal cues that speak about the struggles Clark is going through.

It is the best superhero movie I have ever seen, contrary to what Randell222 has claimed. And what I feel about the movie is best expressed by the critic Drew McWeeny of

Many theaters in the Philippines have lousy audio or the damn aircon is too loud. If you could hardly hear the audio, the movie does not make sense at all.
Angelus - 6/13/2013, 5:54 AM
I cant wait to watch it! The king returns to glory!
InfiniteMonkey - 6/13/2013, 5:54 AM
I hope this movie comes out like a mack truck and plow everything over.
I want DC to have its shared universe too.
Bring on Wonder Woman!
Oh wait, never mind. Hollywood are pussies and brainless to crack the code that is Wonder Woman to the big screen...pity.
AlexanderLykins - 6/13/2013, 5:57 AM
Yes, that's true. I will also say that it's going to be the biggest event in movie history. That is until Avatar 2 comes out. That'll make so much money based purely on 3D ticket sales. If only Marvel Studios could master 3D like Avatar did. That would be the ultimate moneymaker.
ATrueHero1987 - 6/13/2013, 5:57 AM
That's good it's breaking records. Sad I'm not going to see this until the 21st.
Tempo - 6/13/2013, 5:57 AM
XD Dudes it was amazing,I was closed to the interviewers area so I had the vips face to face :D.
JoeMomma29 - 6/13/2013, 5:58 AM
@ blackandyellow

That is funny!
JoeMomma29 - 6/13/2013, 5:59 AM
At this point I think the movie is going to do great at the box office. To much buzz is around the movie. On the flip side it is not going to do as well because I am sure the reviews will sway some people not to go see it. Some people are just mindless sheep that way.

Only 10 hours till the movie!
SageMode - 6/13/2013, 6:00 AM

At one location. Your point?
Tangent - 6/13/2013, 6:01 AM
It's time for...When critics get it wrong!
“I sat cringing before M-G-M’s Technicolor production of The Wizard of Oz, which displays no trace of imagination, good taste, or ingenuity… I don’t like the Singer Midgets under any circumstances, but I found them especially bothersome in Technicolor… I say it’s a stinkeroo.”
– Russell Maloney, The New Yorker
AlexanderLykins - 6/13/2013, 6:01 AM
I understand that this needs to perform in the box office but as I said weeks ago, it's got some stiff competition. As I predicted This Is The End (Dang it) was not going to be a pushover. Also, Monsters University comes out next week. It's going to be a tough one but Man of Steel will pull through!
Flytoiceland - 6/13/2013, 6:01 AM
*beep* RT and those critics.
Their opinions are not better than our own judgement.
I saw MOS yesterday and it was that good!
JoeMomma29 - 6/13/2013, 6:04 AM
The hate is getting bad on this site! I am fine if you want to a hate a movie after you saw it and you just flat out hated it, but all this hate for a movie that has not even been released.

Anyways I hope I am not highly disappointed in MOS like I was with IM3.
Dev - 6/13/2013, 6:04 AM
@FanofSteel, so you're excited about MoS breaking records in the phillipines? It's just one location and Superman Returns back in 2006 also broke the record there as well. Not to mention the movie opened on Independence Day. Nothing to be excited about. Lets see how it does in other locations around the world.

Why not mention the critical reception to the movie while you're at it? ;)
BatmanHush23 - 6/13/2013, 6:04 AM
it has 62% percent actually, based on 77 critical reviews we'll see what happens tonight at midnight ya bastards
CBMfan001 - 6/13/2013, 6:04 AM
For Green Lantern more than the reviews it was people who nailed the coffin,I think we can all agree it was horrible because it didn't have action properly at least like transformers to keep us entertained nor did it have a good story like batman to keep us interested. GL despite the horrible reviews took a good opening but fell very badly because word of mouth. look at now you see me its rotten but people really embraced it and is turning out to be a unexpected hit.
are reviews important yes for some movies like batman, bond etc where they are more character driven than action driven but for movies like transformers which are action driven not so much, what matters it does it entertain ppl and is it worthwhile seeing on cinema.
it would have been good if reviews were amazing but x men first class had great reviews but really didnt do well at domestic box office,it was mainly the international gross that saved it. $146 mil is very low, lower than the horrible wolverine despite a good $ 55 mil start, that is because unlike x1.x2 or even x3 it really didn't entertain. Singer is now going for more entertainment, you can see for the sequel he is getting all involved specially huge to make it entertaining & special.
If this happened for batman then disaster but for superman we will have to wait and see, another classic example is superman returns 76% fresh which is very good but we all know how that movie was,so sometimes what audience look in a movie and critics look are very different specially in movies where ppl expect action. 300 at least for me was mightily entertaining and has a rating of 7.7 in IMDB but in RT only 60% so we can only judge if this is a success or not when it releases to public.
I wont deny having both like batman, avengers, spiderman would be great but in the end what matters most is the box office for the existence of the franchise so lets see how that plays out.
Niklander - 6/13/2013, 6:05 AM
[frick] RT [frick] Metacritic. The people have spoken
Superman007 - 6/13/2013, 6:05 AM

no, bad reviews didnt hurt Green Lantern. A bad movie hurt green lantern. The general public doesnt look at sites like Rottentomatoes ! WE do . If the public would choose what movie they wanna see on a stupid opinionsite like RT movies like Transformers wouldnt make billions ! it has a very low % on RT.Still people went and watched it. What people care about is what their families and friends thing about the movie. If they liked it they gonna see it not if a 40 year old critic from texas didnt like MR. Superman and his DARK ACTION PACKED movie.
AwesomeSauce - 6/13/2013, 6:05 AM
It broke one record and i'm sure it will break some more but DAMN! an article for ONE record broken? I guess this site is trying to uplift DC spirits.
AquaArthur - 6/13/2013, 6:06 AM
Some of y'all really need to get off RT

It gave frankenweine an 87% and the artist a 97%... the artist, a silent movie got 97%... RT is a website full of people who want to critique a movie to make themselves feel superior to the average movie goer.

So they're complaining about to much action in a Superman movie?? well get over it its FREAKING Superman. And anyone who says this movie is worse than Superman Returns is just kidding themselves and trying to stir up controversy. RT is not the be all judge to movies why cant you people just see it and decide for yourselves whether you like it or not instead of reference someone else opinion?
