Harry Lennix Talks More About MAN OF STEEL And His Favourite Superhero Movies

Being careful not to reveal too much about his role as 'General Swanwick' in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, actor Harry Lennix looks back at his time working on the movie and reveals why if he could be any superhero it would be Superman.

Harry Lennix, best known for his roles in 24 and the final two Matrix movies, will be playing the still mysterious 'General Swanwick' in next June's Man of Steel. Below, he looks back at his time working on Zack Snyder's adaptation and confirms exactly what role the character plays in the military. As for how he feels about superhero movies, it should come as a relief to learn that he's a much bigger fan than the likes of Paul Bettany and Hugo Weaving! Check out his comments below, and be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

"I did not film [in Chicago] unfortunately. I shot in Vancouver and central California, which was great. I had a great time on it. But I wasn’t part of the Chicago end of it. I can tell you that General Swanwick is a U.S. army general and he’s the head of Northcom, northern command. Outside of that I’m prohibited from saying anything. [Laughs.] But I can tell you that the guy they have as Superman is Superman. He’s fantastic. I really like Henry Cavill. I think it’s a very good cast."

"I'm as excited as anyone else to see the movie. Superman has always been my favorite superhero. I like Spider-Man too and all. I was never that big on Batman, but I really loved Superman from day one and will never forget the experience of seeing 'Superman' with Christopher Reeve. It was a profound experience in my mind. I loved that. I think if I could be a superhero—I’ve never really actually thought about that. Frankly, I would love to be Superman. [Laughs.] Except that’s not going to happen at this point I’m pretty sure."

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman
Amy Adams as Lois Lane
Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent
Diane Lane as Martha Kent

News has been a little slow. I can't wait to see what Zack Snyder has done with this. As a writer he isn't very strong, but he can bring on the action! Henry Cavil for the win!
Super12 - 10/18/2012, 5:26 AM

I like Lennix in some of the shows i've seen him in. He usually is really good. If he's in this, then I feel better about the movie already.

LegacyFilms - 10/18/2012, 6:49 AM
This film certainly has quite the cast. With everyone involved, I have high hopes for it, the only slight thing that scares me is Snyder's track record, but I still have faith he'll get it right... And if he doesn't, I'll never watch another one of his movies.
luxterg - 10/18/2012, 6:56 AM

Besides, anyone wants to suck Cavill's dick. It must be gorgeous, and... super big :D
AC1 - 10/18/2012, 8:05 AM
It's nice to see an actor who is not only praising the genre as something he enjoys, but also not taking sides and denouncing either Marvel or DC as inferior to one another. He said he likes Superman and Spider-Man. Recently we've had interviews with people dissing the jobs they've worked on or dissing other companies' projects, so it's refreshing to see someone who is just a fan and thankful for what he has.
jimpinto24 - 10/18/2012, 9:50 AM
I can not wait for MOS!

dollstix - 10/18/2012, 12:08 PM
Not as a political statement and I have zero interest in politics to be fair ... but I do think if they ever did a CBM with the hero meeting the President (like Captain America ) and Obama was in office...the guy could really pull it off!!!
MediaMan - 10/18/2012, 1:37 PM
I didn't even know Lennix was in it. He's extremely good. Always memorable. Glad he'll be there. He's great at being an authority figure, so sounds like good casting. I can easily see him as a General.

As long as they keep Henry Cavill in the Justice League movie I will be a happy camper...
ManofSteelo - 11/8/2012, 11:34 AM
Funny, because Lennix is Chicago-based / native.

"Swanwick" sounds like a ishtty role, but he's a good enough actor do actually do something with it.
