Henry Cavill On Christopher Nolan's Involvement With MAN OF STEEL

In the latest issue of F*** Magazine, there's an extensive 10-pg feature with Henry Cavill where the actor discusses his preparation and approach to Man of Steel and the character of Superman. Continue on for a few excerpts from the interview.

The print magazine, F*** has a pretty in-depth interview with actor Henry Cavill concerning Man of Steel in addition to touching on where his acting career began and where he hopes Superman can take it. The quotes below are just a few excerpts from the interview. One of the early topics was the extent of The Dark Knight director and Man of Steel Producer Christopher Nolan's involvement with the project. Cavill says once camera's rolled, it was all Zack Snyder. "Chris Nolan wasn't there during the production itself, although I'm not sure how much work was done behind the scenes. I'm sure Zack had a phone call or two with him, but this is definitely Zack's baby. He was the man in charge, and we created the character together, as opposed to having too many outside influences."

Cavill went on to share that Zack is very much a collaborative director and welcomed suggestions from his actors. "It's a collaborative process and Zach wants us to talk to him about stuff and work with him on his ideas. If you say, 'how about I do this,' he'll say 'I don't know if I like it yet, but give it a shot.'

The director and screenwriter's have been forthcoming about the fact that there's no kryptonite in the film but Cavill says he strived to make Superman vulnerable in other ways. "Again, it comes back to the human element; because he's alone and there's no one like him. That must be incredibly scary and lonely, not to know who you are or what you are, and trying to find out what makes sense. Where's your baseline? What do you draw from? Where do you draw a limit with the power you have? In itself, that's an incredible weakness."

@teabag Lol, I'll remember that.......
GrimFeature - 5/8/2013, 5:43 AM
Chris Nolan got the ball rolling. Everything else was Zach. Can't wait for this movie.

RextheKing - 5/8/2013, 5:50 AM
....and of course people are still trying to find a way to give Nolan credit for the film. Other than hiring Zack and tweeking with script some, there isn't much Nolan has done.
RPD - 5/8/2013, 5:50 AM
Here's what will happen: If it's good Nolan will get the credit. If it isn't Snyder will get the blame...

MOS looks absolutely fantastic. Glad Nolan's involvement was minimal.
ParisSun - 5/8/2013, 5:51 AM
Cavill is really a great actor. I just loved him in The Tudors. I think he's better than Bale. So, hopefully this movie puts him into A-list category because he deserves it. I'm hoping he's able to translate this into success outside of MoS like Jackman has done outside of Wolverine. Jackman has managed to avoid typecast and do a myriad of roles and become a nominated actor. I think Cavill has the same potential.
TheYesGuy - 5/8/2013, 5:55 AM
That Superman pic is just too good.!!!!!!!!!!!
yingyangpalms - 5/8/2013, 5:58 AM
Snyder did a great job with Watchmen. Can't understand why Whedon and some fans didnt like it.
So far my only concerns are the horrible music in one of the trailers and Zod seems goofy.
BrotherJohnson - 5/8/2013, 6:00 AM
No Kryptonite? Okay, but I'd like to see some in the sequel.
R888 - 5/8/2013, 6:01 AM
Snyder the man :) did an awesome job on Watchmen and dawn of the dead was a great reboot, we won't disappointed us.
Fantine - 5/8/2013, 6:01 AM
Nolan is there for marketing
BrotherJohnson - 5/8/2013, 6:03 AM

I also cannot understand why people complain about Watchmen. IMHO, it was as faithful a movie adaptation as one could make. The ending made more sense.
jasonicus - 5/8/2013, 6:07 AM
I bought F*** magazine and all I got was an awkward boner. Worst porn ever.
BrotherJohnson - 5/8/2013, 6:11 AM
God dammit, monkeyballs. WTF is wrong with you?
rsalas - 5/8/2013, 6:12 AM
I like Cavill too but how is Cavill a better actor then Bale? Bale's won and Oscar and was amazing in The Fighter among other movies. Cavill hasn't had a performance to list him as an A-list actor. Jackman is a decent actor as well. Hasn't had a performance that blew me away, but I heard he did well in Les Miserables, but that movie looks boring as sh*t.
Gmoney84 - 5/8/2013, 6:16 AM
I'm so ready for this movie. I've been on a New 52 tear recently. I read Earth One recently. I'm just so pumped at how good this looks and what it could mean for a DCCU.
BruceWayneNewton - 5/8/2013, 6:17 AM
This is going to break records around the world and make me walk away with an empty sack.
MarkJulian - 5/8/2013, 6:20 AM
@teabag I can't decide which was more disgusting lol. It's breakfast time where I am.
GodzillaKart - 5/8/2013, 6:21 AM
@rsalas: I think it would be impossible to support the argument that Cavill is a better actor than Bale. Bale was well deserving of his oscar for the fighter and has had many other great performances. By comparison, Cavill is untested.

However, I think a strong argument could be made for Cavill being a better fit for the role of Superman than Bale was for Batman. I, for one, think Cavill seems perfect for his role. I thought Bale was a terrible miscast and one of the worst part of Nolan's trilogy.
Gmoney84 - 5/8/2013, 6:30 AM
I really liked Nolan's Batman films but the idea of getting a series more closely related to the comic is very exciting. Like many here, I think the idea of an Arkham/New 52 type world would be incredible.
DoubleD - 5/8/2013, 6:33 AM
Nola's name is attached to this film for marketing reasons only. Trying to get people to think it's the next Dark Knight movie. Just like Iron Man 3 attached itself to the Avengers instead of Iron Man 2. GREAT SALES AND MARKETING IDEA's

Nolan's name and Avengers sell more tickets.
JorL5150 - 5/8/2013, 6:34 AM
@ zilla-

I agree completely agree about cavil. He was born for this.

Respectfully disagree about bale and batman. I enjoyed that series. But I do see why some would not.

I liked nolans version - but I'm not in the fiege cult that demands everyone worship what I like and ignore the faults lol
TheIlluminati - 5/8/2013, 6:35 AM
Avengers 3 directed by Christopher Nolan...that would JOSS!!!
GodzillaKart - 5/8/2013, 6:41 AM
@JorL5150: Differing opinions and intelligent conversation & debate is what it's all about.

IMO most Marvel movies are good and always fun, but not great. I thought IM3 was the second best Marvel film and the Mandarin was fantastic, so I'm well used to having opinions that differ from most.

My dislike of Bale as Bats runs pretty deep. I think it comes from really liking the character and having strong opinions about how he should be portrayed. Even with that hate though, I have to give TDK its due. Fantastic film and in my top 4 CBM even with Bale in the lead.
PhoenixKing - 5/8/2013, 6:51 AM
It will be the movie of the Summer for sure.
SpectacularJoShFest - 5/8/2013, 6:57 AM
I like how he said Nolan was barely involved. I'm liking this movie already.
Nomis1800 - 5/8/2013, 7:11 AM
This is gonna make so much moneys!!!
JoeMomma29 - 5/8/2013, 7:14 AM
@ fettastic

Yeah you know any other director would have gone with Lex Luthor fighting Supers with kryptonite! This movie is going to epic!
fortycals - 5/8/2013, 7:17 AM
My only problem with watchmen was spending two hours looking at radioactive smurf penis, then when it was time to show some tits we got two minutes of side boob and a flash of nipple. Other than that it was a great movie.
JoeMomma29 - 5/8/2013, 7:26 AM
@ Fortcals

Snyder was tyring ot please the woman audience this time with radioactive slong!
TheAbomination - 5/8/2013, 7:29 AM
That's good. Wouldn't want Nolan having too much involvement.
fortycals - 5/8/2013, 7:38 AM

I cant stand bale as batman, but I did think he made a great Bruce. It kinda works because nolan focused heavily on bruce. The reason I did like the first two, were for the villians. SC/ras/joker carried the movies as far as Im concern. I just cant say the same thing for Bane.

Cavil fits superman so well though, it worries me how his clark will be. I cant remember any of the trailers showing the classic clark. I remember hobo clark but no classic Clark. Anyway I cant wait for this one, and so much more excited for this one than I ever was for Bales bat.
thewonderer - 5/8/2013, 7:45 AM
This project would not have gotten off the ground if Nolan and Goyer hadn't approached WB first.

Nolan CHOSE Snyder to make this and then let him make his own movie.

Nolans name is a big reason this movie is even being made. Its a box office draw.

And despite the fact that he's made some of the best movies of all time, you guys feel the need to keep insulting him?

I find Nolans involvement is being underplayed here.

I LOVE Snyder but the man DOES have problems with storytelling
l0rdleg0las - 5/8/2013, 7:46 AM
Thank god! The less Nolan pretentiousness the better
fortycals - 5/8/2013, 7:51 AM

Yeah I guess so, but he could atleast have givin him some hangtime. If you could change the whole world with a thought, and never once thought of giving yourself some extra size where it counts.

Snyder had already got a R rated movie, he should have took advantage. If I got to look at king blue balls all day, he could have thrown us guys a bone. I was expecting to see at least two nipps, alot o ass, and even some bush(hey it was the eighties).
gmoney0505 - 5/8/2013, 7:55 AM
Bale was great for Batman. He portrayed the character well and his alter egos great. Voice didn't bothered be because that's how it is explained how it sounds in the comics some of the times. Bale great just didn't get your Batman.

Nolan played the part he needed to play for this movie. Made sure it gets produced and make sure the story comes together nicely. He deserves his credit for getting this movie made so fast and putting the right pieces together. Batman tells ya why Nolan name is all over the movies spots and trailer
