Henry Cavill On MAN OF STEEL

Henry Cavill On MAN OF STEEL

"[Man of Steel] is a selfless movie about a character who is going through what he is going through. He wants to do the right thing, but he's fallible, like the rest of us. He messes up, and that makes us love him more." - Henry Cavill

In the latest issue of Total Film Magazine out now, Henry Cavill talks about playing the granddaddy of all superheroes, Superman, in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel.

On waking up during shooting and putting on the Superman suit.
"I love wearing the suit! You put it on every morning and you feel fantastic. I mean, you're wearing a Superman suit, for goodness sake!"

On how long it took to get into costume.
"It took the team about 15 minutes each day. They struggled hard...let's just say we became very close!"

His response to the question of what he tried to accomplish with the part.
"This is not a movie about Zack Snyder directing something, or Henry Cavill playing a character...It's a selfless movie about a character who is going through what he is going through. He wants to do the right thing, but he's fallible, like the rest of us. He messes up, and that makes us love him more."

On the Justice League rumors.
" A decision's being made, I'm sure, post opening weekend!"

There's more from Cavill in the interview including details on his workout regime, the pressure of being Superman on and off camera and what having a large tentpole franchise behind your name does for negotiations. Be sure to pick up the latest issue of Total Film if you're interested in reading more from Cavill. Man of Steel hits U.S. theaters June 14, 2013.

Awesome CAVILL was the best pick by far to take over from ROUTHY in this new reboot!

As for welling, Welling who :p

CAVILL will do the character the greatest justice.

Great interview, and a very well articulated answer by Henry. Yeah, since he is not a perfect dude, like every kid who have been raised as an earthling, as we all experience, sometimes good or noble intention doesnt end up the way we wanted, though we came with a goodwill.
ATrueHero1987 - 2/15/2013, 7:12 AM
I'm ready to see this movie.
The top 3 most anticipated movies of the summer for me are: Iron Man 3, Pacific Rim, and Man Of Steel!
MartianSupermanhunter22 - 2/15/2013, 7:14 AM
Good gravy, I can't wait.
bemond - 2/15/2013, 7:18 AM
I believe in Cavill! God I hope this movie rocks.
AztecRainGod - 2/15/2013, 7:22 AM
I think humanizing the character is a great idea. The holier than thou, infallible boyscout schtick would not have worked today the way it did years ago.
BANEofExistence - 2/15/2013, 7:22 AM
What material is that suit made of!?!? Great for Cosplayers!
INFO - 2/15/2013, 7:25 AM
I love the way he's so enthusiastic about being superman that shows me that he will try his hardest to bring the best performance of Superman we will ever see.
SpectacularJoSh - 2/15/2013, 7:25 AM
I would like to say this is my most anticipated movie of the year but it isn't...this is my most anticipated movie of all times after Superman II...well,nope...that was Avengers, but any way, Man of Steel is what I've always wanted to see in a Superman movie...it's time to let the Donner movies go and embrace this new take on the character...oh and let the main theme go as well...it's not the 70s anymore =)

Figures, then we will have to wait until August for some news about JLA and perhaps about a sequel to MOS.

If the sucks..............i'm still gonna see it three times at the theatres.
gambgel - 2/15/2013, 7:58 AM
this will easily be my Fave movie of the year
rbfn04 - 2/15/2013, 8:01 AM
Whatever they say or do the movie, to me, hangs on what they do with the Clark Kent/superman dynamic. If they go "he is more Kal-El than Clark Kent. Clark is the mask" like the New 52, there's no way I'll be able to enjoy it.

If they go "Clark is who I am. Superman is what I can do", can't me in. (eventho I'll always look at the suit as "close but no cigar")
Thythoutrust - 2/15/2013, 8:03 AM
Does he fuse with Batman at the beginning of the movie? Or after like 45 minutes or something?

Anyways, looks promising.
Facade - 2/15/2013, 8:06 AM
@TonyCHAOS...no doubt...lmfao.

I feel we may be in for something special. TDK level special. Its just a vibe I am starting to get. I also feel the world is ready for a new Superman movie. When Returns came out there was no real buzz. Even before we knew it was crap, but after TDK trilogy and Nolan's name attached to it there just seems to be this growing buzz. The trailers have this feel to them that seems special. I hope I am right, because Superman deserves it. Batman is my favorite, but Superman belongs right there with him.
JULEZ13 - 2/15/2013, 12:46 PM
WB to make a final decision on JL after MOS's opening weekend?? I guess Cavill has his agent calling them constantly to see where they are going with this. I'm sure he wasn't supposed to let us know that tho! BUT THANKS FOR THE INFO CAVILL!!

I still don't see the need to wait. The greatness of this movie is clear... They better move ahead with JLA! Get Goyer and Jonathan Nolan to come up with the story and let Snyder direct!
Tony93 - 2/15/2013, 12:47 PM
can not wait!! can not wait!!!!
Tony93 - 2/15/2013, 12:48 PM
I also cant wait for maketing.. promo.. posters..

it will be glorious!! lol
DanteSparda - 2/15/2013, 1:41 PM

I'm sure many fans said the same about Green Lantern...
datNAMEtho - 2/15/2013, 3:24 PM
Now there's a Superman..
thaonly1guly - 2/15/2013, 3:57 PM
@JULEZ13 That's exactly my thought process. They could easily just have Goyer and J. Nolan write the script and Snyder direct. The more I think about it the more I think that is exactly what is going to happen.

I wouldn't be surprised if Goyer and J. Nolan are currently writing a script as we speak.
Navyblue8 - 2/15/2013, 4:35 PM
YEAHHHH!!! GO MAN OF STEEL! I love what Henry Cavill's words lines about MOS. Come on, Warner Bros. should do to make the Justice League movie after MOS... I can't wait to see Henry as Superman in the Justice League movie.
Thecondor14 - 2/15/2013, 5:52 PM
Can't wait to see this especially with Cavill in it. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy Reeve and the rest but Cavill just has a Superman vibe. He also has the muscularity that the others lacked that makes him look like he can do what Superman does.
Jollem - 2/15/2013, 6:02 PM
here comes the justice league
ahhmynuts - 2/15/2013, 7:08 PM
im just wondering where the guys that said he was a bad cast are at...
XavierLehnsherr - 2/15/2013, 7:33 PM
I already saw this movie.

Back when it was called "Smallville".

He didn't even need to wear the suit to be Superman.

And he did it for 10 years.

It was awesome.
mgeoff88 - 2/15/2013, 11:34 PM
Henry Cavill is so prefect for Superman!

"A decision's being made, I'm sure, post opening weekend!"

Justice League is coming. ;)
RyKnow - 2/16/2013, 2:23 AM
O.K., let's take a punt here; A Justice League movie is doomed to fail in any universe. It's a desperate attempt by WB execs to cash in on a marketing and business strategy that worked for Marvel and try and accomplish the same ammount of success. I have no doubt that this Superman movie, while not having the most intelligent of directors, will be a great film. But considering this is meant to be a stand alone film, I can see the proverbial hitting the fan when they try and stick the Superman character from said stand alone film into a poorly planned, ill-fated and ultimately ridiculous and shameful rip-off ensemble film. Don't get me wrong, I thought Avengers was a massive anti-climax considering the build up to it, but it will be like Citizen Kane compared to this god awful sounding Justice League film.

JLA fans, you have my condolences. Be prepared to be let down.
