Laurence Fishburne Signing On For 'Perry White' In Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel!

Laurence Fishburne Signing On For 'Perry White' In Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel!

Recent reports suggest that The Matrix Oscar-nominated actor Laurence Fishburne is the latest to join Zack Snyder's Superman reboot, Man Of Steel as Perry White. Check it!

The folks from Entertainment Weekly, as well other reliable sources, are reporting that Oscar-nominated actor Laurence Fishburne is rounding out the star-studded cast of Zack Snyder's 'Superman' reboot, Man Of Steel. Filling in the shoes of Daily Planet editor-in-chief, Perry White, the site states verbatim:

Lois Lane and Clark Kent just got their boss: Laurence Fishburne will play Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White in Man of Steel, EW has learned exclusively. White has traditionally been a hard-charging, old fashioned newspaperman, who relies on his ace reporters, Clark and Lois, to get the big scoop.

Laurence Fishburne, 50, gave an Oscar-nominated performance as 'Ike Turner' in What's Love Got to Do With It, alongside leading actress Angela Bassett. And hes also appeared in The Matrix, Mystic River and Apocalypse Now.

Like EW suggests, Perry White is the abrasive, old-school newsman who lords over the the Daily Planet. However, while Fishburne is evidently African-American, in the comics, the character is portrayed as a Caucasian. What do you think?

Man Of Steel, under Zack Snyder's direction, stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Julia Ormond, Russell Crowe with Christopher Meloni & Harry Lennix. And the reboot is slated for theaters June 14, 2013!

I'm sorry, what? I don't mind some character changes in Marvel, but this is outrageous.
Dynamo - 8/2/2011, 6:56 PM
That's awesome casting!
ALmighty1080 - 8/2/2011, 6:58 PM
nice casting, but wheres my Lex!?
MikeHawk - 8/2/2011, 6:58 PM
Dc thought, hey! heimdall's black in the movie! why not black perry white? ..i dont know how to feel about this lol
DaenerysTargaryen - 8/2/2011, 6:58 PM
Didn't see that one coming
LP4 - 8/2/2011, 6:59 PM
This is stupid as hell. First Perry???

Fishburne is a great actor...but why does every race have to become African-American? If they wanted to ignore a character's race and change it altogether, there are plenty of other races to choose from.

Still though nice to hear Perry is in the film at least.
LP4 - 8/2/2011, 6:59 PM
I wonder what race Jimmy will be at this point...
TorturedXGenius - 8/2/2011, 7:01 PM
SMH @ people hating on this casting.
Dynamo - 8/2/2011, 7:01 PM
Why is it such a big deal that he's black? Perry's not that important a character and doesn't have any specific image in comics. Changing his race means nothing. The cast needs more colour anyway.
Anthrax - 8/2/2011, 7:01 PM
[frick] this reboot [frick] superman and [frick] dc bring on the second reboot
LP4 - 8/2/2011, 7:02 PM
I'm not even white. But to change the characters race is stupid. They're just copying what Marvel is doing with Spider-Man.

What an epic fail. Great actor though.
kevberg - 8/2/2011, 7:03 PM
sure thing....I vote for Sylvester Stallone as Blade. :)

I mean it doesn't really matter right?
RorMachine - 8/2/2011, 7:03 PM
Fishburne is a great actor and well suited to the role. Anything else doesn't matter. End of.
blee - 8/2/2011, 7:03 PM
This is great casting! Its like Daredevil; Michael clark Duncan as Kingpin. Eventhough there was a race change, he did a great interpretation!
RorMachine - 8/2/2011, 7:04 PM
Yes LP, that's what they are doing. You actually believe that?
LucasMend - 8/2/2011, 7:04 PM

The [frick]
Now Jimmy should be Asian I guess
Who knows how Fishburne may turn out on the role if this happens to be true
Anthrax - 8/2/2011, 7:05 PM
@kev Sylvester for cyborg
LP4 - 8/2/2011, 7:05 PM
@Dynamo and TorturedXGenius- It is a "fail" because stupid Snyder is just copying Marvel now with what they did with Spider-Man.

Let's just go ahead and change Jimmy's race and Lex's race (if they are even in this)

For 71 years Perry has been a specific suddenly CHANGE it and to NOT expect fans to get a little upset over it is silly of the two of you.

TorturedXGenius - 8/2/2011, 7:05 PM
"They're just copying what Marvel is doing with Spider-Man."

that's for a comic book, this is for film, even then it's not a big deal. Could it just be that he was the best actor for the part? same way as Elba was for Heimdall?

Dynamo - 8/2/2011, 7:06 PM
How is that copying Marvel? That's just ridiculous. He was probably considered before it was even anounced. What does it even matter? He's not even the main character.

The difference being Blade has an iconic image as a titular character. Perry White has no specific iconic image, as well as being a supporting character.
kevberg - 8/2/2011, 7:06 PM
Sure thing , John Cho as John Stewart.
LP4 - 8/2/2011, 7:07 PM
If they are soooo obsessed with diversifying races, then why always go to Black?

Why not try other races- latino, asian etc-

Plenty of other races to choose from, take your pic.

LP4 - 8/2/2011, 7:08 PM
I vote for Jimmy to be latino and Lex to be Asian.

Let's diversify the whole [frick]ing cast.
MikeHawk - 8/2/2011, 7:08 PM
LOL 2nd part of race wars for this day! first ult.spiderman and now this! someone is just laughing at all this right now
RorMachine - 8/2/2011, 7:08 PM
They are not obsessed with diversifying races, YOU ARE. They are obsessed with finding the best person for the role, who in this case happens to be a black guy. Get it? Got it. Good.
InSpace - 8/2/2011, 7:09 PM
-____- this sucks

and just to be clear I'm only mad that they chose him for a supporting role when He deserves so much more. He is a phenomenal actor and should deff get a better role then just Perry
Dynamo - 8/2/2011, 7:09 PM
Do you honestly think Snyder took time out of his day, while working on the script for Superman, scouting for locations, doing pre-viz etc. and went online yesterday, found out the new Spidey is black, then called his casting director and told him, "screw all the other choices, did you see what Marvel did? Nah, [frick] that, throw out all choices for Perry White, fire the guy we've been contacting GET ME A BLACK DUDE!"? REALLY?!
VaCubFan - 8/2/2011, 7:10 PM
no disrespect, Selina, and i like to think and hope that i'm by no means racist, but i can see the uproar in this and other movies. Alicia in FF, Heimdal in Thor and even to a lessor extent Fury in the Marvel-verse- changing a character solely for the purpose of attracting a more diverse audience. Alicia has ALWAYS been the white gf of The Thing (tho i could argue 'more power to him for having an open mind')... Heimdal- i love Idris Elba, but waver on casting him as a tradionally NORDIC legend... he did well, but still it felt wrong. Fury- well, damn, i do love SLJ and he is a badass Fury (heck we'd all be better than the Hoff)... i am no fan of Supes, but Perry White has always been this old, white, curmudeon newspaper man. this one, of all the ones i mention, to me just sort of screams "let's try to attract a more diverse audience"... THAT being said (and call me wish-washy on this post)... until i see the movie (on DVD).. maybe they're updating all-around, since the newspaper industry as a whole is kind of fading, perhaps THIS incarnation of White will be not so news-papery and more internet/.com type guy ... and i'm just expressing my opinion, i certainly respect yours
Supes17 - 8/2/2011, 7:10 PM
If anything this is good news. It would be great to see more culturally diverse actors im CBM. I would love to see another Spanish superhero besides zorro. But bc of the extremely stereotypical society we live in, he would Have to be of Mexican influence, as if the other latin culturesmdont exist lmao.
AsianVersionOfET - 8/2/2011, 7:10 PM
"Do you believe it now, Trinity?"
LP4 - 8/2/2011, 7:10 PM
LIKE I SAID- He's a great actor. But damn there are plenty of actors out there without having to change a character's that he's had for over 70 [frick]ing years.

@kevberg- Agreed dude. And yeah Dynamo- Perry DOES have a specific image and race. Not rocket science dude.
TorturedXGenius - 8/2/2011, 7:11 PM
"It is a "fail" because stupid Snyder is just copying Marvel now with what they did with Spider-Man."

you ACTUALLY think, something that happens in a comic, in a rival company REALLY has an effect on casting for a film??

kevberg - 8/2/2011, 7:11 PM
@ Dynamo...there is NO difference.

I don't wanna see a white BLADE any more than changing up any other character to pander to a fad.

Blade's one of my favorite characters because of what Wesley Snipes and David Goyer brought to the character.

If folks would write good characters that are meant
to be asian, latino, black .. whatever then its fine... people will gravitate to them.

LP4 - 8/2/2011, 7:12 PM
@Dynamo- I wasn't being literal when i said he copied Spider-Man. I was just saying it's stupid how everyone is now obsessed with diversifying everything.

@ror- Dude i'm not even talking to you, mind you're own [frick]ing business.
SigmaCenturion - 8/2/2011, 7:12 PM
hmmmm im not sure how to take this. fishburne is good actor. i think it would be funny to hear a few great caesar's ghosts from him lol
Anthrax - 8/2/2011, 7:12 PM
Sure report me.It won't change my opinion perry is iconic is his own way as lp4 said 71 yes has always had a specific race is white no go [frick] yourself synder!
Supes17 - 8/2/2011, 7:12 PM
Why do all non-white CBM characters and heroes have to be black?
Why dont we see latinos or asians? They exist too and I bet they feel a little left out
