MAN OF STEEL Has Already Earned $170 Million From Its 98 Promotional Partners

There's a little over a week to go until Man of Steel is actually released, but the the Zack Snyder helmed reboot has already accumulated a whopping $170 million from promotional partners such as Mattel, Gillette. Chrysler, Converse and Nokia. Read on for details!

In an effort to raise maximum awareness for Man of Steel, Warner Bros. have partnered up with 98 companies worldwide and have already earned $170 million for the movie. This is even more than The Dark Knight Rises' $150 million from last summer as it has apparently proved to be, "a much easier movie to pitch to partners than The Dark Knight Rises, which was darker in theme and plot.". It's Superman's status as an all-American hero which has obviously helped to make him someone advertisers have no problem associating themselves with. However, it's thought that plenty of international partners will also be found ahead of its release next week. Some of the companies you will see promoting the movie are Mattel, Lego, JAKKS Pacific, Converse, Rubie’s, Hallmark, Chrysler, Nokia, Carls Jr., Hershey’s, Walmart and even the U.S. Army National Guard. Why should you care about this? Well, do try to remember that the future of the DC Cinematic Universe and a potential Justice League rests on the success of Man of Steel!

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman
Amy Adams as Lois Lane
Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent

LEVITIKUZ - 6/6/2013, 6:23 AM
On topic, [frick] yea.

It will gross a billion.
thewonderer - 6/6/2013, 6:24 AM
grif is shit
Oateyboat - 6/6/2013, 6:25 AM
So it's almost breaking even without even hitting the cinemas? Hopefully this is a sign for good things to come at the box office.

The devil is in the details. But hopefully the "revolving door" revenue is not as much as I'd expect considering the number of partners its has. Specifically the ones like WalMart and Sears. But ticket revenue should more than balance and reach overflow if the buzz is anything to go by

Already people here are mistaking the headline for Box office receipts, it would help if the article made it clear that this is merchandise sales not the Box Office, they are completely different.

Every movie like this makes billions in merchandise sales, merchandise always makes quadruple what a movie makes at the box office so this is nothing new. The box office gravy chain starts next weekend so hold your horses.

Hopefully it will make $2 billion!

has anyone else noticed that everytime they do a give a way for this movie or something on a talk show they still use the williams theme ... again im not saying im against zimmer but im just saying i think the williams theme was classic and just embodied superman.
Ceejay - 6/6/2013, 6:34 AM
And YES, even the movies that flopped make millions and billions in merchandise sales. PIXAR's Cars movies weren't exactly their biggest hits but they still mustered over $10 Billion in merchandise sales, the movies never even made a tenth of that.

Even Green Lantern and Tron Legacy sold ten times more in merchandise than what they made at the box office. Man of Steel will make its billion but this merchandise sales report is no bearing on that.

the dark knight rises wasn't shit but it was average at best.
Ceejay - 6/6/2013, 6:42 AM
@BreaktheSpell - Merchandise sales do not add to the films box office takings, they are kept separate. If that was the case then The Cars movies would be the biggest films in history since to date they've sold more merchandise than any film in history, even Star Wars.

@Jollem - Those pics are actually bloody well done!
TheDARKestKNIGHT - 6/6/2013, 6:53 AM
TDKR wasn't that great and this is coming from someone whose favorite character IS Batman.

Buuuuuuuttttt IM3 was significantly worse than TDKR. Cap and Thor 2 look way better and MoS looks better than them all.
Jollem - 6/6/2013, 6:54 AM
they ain't mine. i thought they was cool, too :)
TheDARKestKNIGHT - 6/6/2013, 6:56 AM
Are you people so late that you haven't seen these pics Jollem is posting?

You nerds have to visit other websites besides this one and get out more.
Stop being and looking like the stereotypical nerd.
The last Comic convention I went to people thought me and my girlfriend were being funny because we looked so "normal". Lol

You don't have to be a "nerd/geek" to enjoy comic books.

TheBoss117 - 6/6/2013, 6:58 AM
@Jollem & Ceejay...I agree! I love the Monster Energy drink Hulk and Nike Batman. Great stuff!

This movie could make billions and the studio will still say it broke even while at the same time prepping for MoS 2. Studios are full of crooks.
BoosterGold1991 - 6/6/2013, 7:06 AM
It will definitely be great, but seriously if we're getting a justice league movie, each remaining hero need to be introduced in their own movies in a trilogy before they team up. For example Flash, Martian Man Hunter, Superman, Green lantern and Aquaman.
Jollem - 6/6/2013, 7:06 AM
i hope thor does well, too
