MAN OF STEEL Opening Weekend Estimated At $100M

MAN OF STEEL Opening Weekend Estimated At $100M

Variety reports that early tracking for Man of Steel predicts a $100M domestic opening weekend. Lets extrapolate that a step further and guess at Man of Steel's potential worldwide box office earnings.

According to the Hollywood trade publication Variety, the Superman reboot from Zack Snyder, Henry Cavill, David S. Goyer, Christopher Nolan and co. is currently tracking for an estimated $100M opening weekend. The trade has solicited box office expectations from various Warner Bros. executives who predict that Man of Steel will earn $300M over the course of its entire domestic run. These days, the rule of thumb for successful summer blockbusters is that international earnings will be 2x the domestic run. Doing a little math, that means Warner Bros. is hoping for a $900M box office haul for the $225 million Man of Steel. Add in the $160M the film has already earned in product placement from various advertisers and that's a total revenue of over a billion dollars. Of course, it's debated ad nauseam around these parts in the comments that things such as theater cuts, marketing, etc., etc. must be taken into account to determine a film's actual profit (for all you youngsters, that's different from revenue). Buena Vista's Iron Man 3 has earned $387 million domestically thus far, with a worldwide box office haul of $1.18 billion which matches up pretty well with the [worldwide gross = domestic + 2x(domestic)] formula mentioned above. If such a financial forecast were to turn out true for Man of Steel, imagine the announcements to be made at this year's San Diego Comic Con.

I strongly believe that this movie will be in the top 10 highest grossing movies of all time. People love superman, the marketing is excellent, Snyder and Nolan has a large fanbase...this movie is destined to do wonders.

CaptainObvious - 6/6/2013, 3:52 PM
If the movie is good, then there will be nothing to worry about. People will make an effort to see it if word-of-mouth is positive.
AsianVersionOfET - 6/6/2013, 3:52 PM
Don't care about money, I care about a good film...and Man of Steel......*nods head slowly*
Rhinoman - 6/6/2013, 3:53 PM

Pheezmatic - 6/6/2013, 3:53 PM

Its gonna make more. So much more.
MrCBM56 - 6/6/2013, 3:54 PM
Good point Mark. If this movie does great, at SDCC we will get awesome announcements for future plans. Cannot wait! This will also be my first year at comic con. My anticipation can't get any higher.
Pheezmatic - 6/6/2013, 3:54 PM
I just hope WB is ready to go...its retarded that they feel they need to wait till after this movie to see if their gunna expand upon it.
113 - 6/6/2013, 3:55 PM
Only $100m opening weekend? That's troubling, that's really low for a movie like this.

This needs to get $150+

third3ye - 6/6/2013, 3:56 PM
Global take will be just under a billion. Doesn't have the international relevancy that some franchises like IM and Batman have since they're coming off much more recent sequels, and more importantly the competition is stacked mid-June to early July.
SpideyQuad - 6/6/2013, 3:58 PM
I'm expecting higher than that. 1 25 million
ManofSteel23 - 6/6/2013, 3:58 PM
I am not doubting this movie, but I really am crossing my fingers that this will be bloody brilliant,if this film cant do it then there is no hope for our man of steel or the justice league,so much effort has been put into this film that they wont do it again if it fails, not for a long time anyway,COME ON MAN OF STEEL!
0ptimusCrime - 6/6/2013, 3:58 PM
Dontworry....this movie will own!

AsianVersionOfET - 6/6/2013, 3:58 PM
C'mon guys, asking this movie to make more than that is like saying Batman Begins should've made more.
exe - 6/6/2013, 3:58 PM
Marvel bitches feeling jumpy now lol!
Tony93 - 6/6/2013, 3:59 PM
I predict between 100-200 million opening weekend
SpideyQuad - 6/6/2013, 3:59 PM
I just told it's better than that Nolan crap that everybody has been eating
Jollem - 6/6/2013, 3:59 PM
stand back while marvel studios nutbars cry and pee their pants?
MrYurMomm - 6/6/2013, 3:59 PM
It'll round off with about 750-800 million.

This is taking Superman's appeal (250M), Nolan and Snyder's name (100M), 3D and IMAX (150M), and also excellent WOM (150M) and product placement (150M) all into consideration.

These are the figures I have come up with after countless hours of research.

But just because it won't make more than a billion doesn't mean it isn't good. Look at Inception, Watchmen, Iron Man, Spider-Man 2, etc.

And just because it does pass a billion doesn't mean its good either. Look at Avatar, POTC 3&4, TF:DOTM, TDKR, Alice in Wonderland, etc..

Just enjoy it for what it is and hope for the best.

I probably won't get around to seeing it in cinema's due to work, (and personal lack of interest after everything I've seen and read) but I'll definitely buy tickets for friends and family, hell maybe even strangers, to contribute to BO revenue.
third3ye - 6/6/2013, 4:01 PM
You guys realize that if the movie is actually good, the second weekend will be strong right? It's hard to put a big number on opening weekend when there hasn't been a good Supes movie since 1981.
SpideyQuad - 6/6/2013, 4:01 PM
exe, I Am one of the biggest Marvel people out here. Am pulling hard for this movie to be successful , despite douche bags like you
Pitt - 6/6/2013, 4:01 PM
Billion dollar 1st film
SpideyQuad - 6/6/2013, 4:01 PM
It seems to me it's been the DC crowd that's been crying for the past few years
Ramiel - 6/6/2013, 4:03 PM
$100M weekend opening for a reboot is good if you ask me. That's Spider-Man numbers.
kevberg - 6/6/2013, 4:03 PM
Youre the bitch. 100 million is not really Huge....actually moderate expectation.

Sounds like WB is a little jumpy.

Both Avengers and IM3 soundly passed a billion.

That said--- Man of Steel looks good. I know Im seeing it.
ArmGunar - 6/6/2013, 4:04 PM
I predict 112 millions, mark my word !
RaMan - 6/6/2013, 4:05 PM
MAN OF STEEL is going to make over $1 Billion.

Let me put it this way, the current weekend box office predictions are way too early to determine how much this movie will gross for next weekend, but mark my words, This movie is destined to pass Iron Man 3, and MAN OF STEEL will break records.

I am 100% certain about one thing..this movie will in no doubt break a record as being the highest grossing re-booted movie of all time ( I believe that record is currently held by last year's The Amazing Spiderman).

MAN OF STEEL will beat Iron Man 3 and will be breaking records one week from tomorrow. Mark my words on that!!

Pitt - 6/6/2013, 4:05 PM
If TDKR did $167 million without 3D, MOS will do $200 opening weekend
EpitomeofAwesome - 6/6/2013, 4:05 PM
Its going to join the billion dollar club, obviously.
Jollem - 6/6/2013, 4:06 PM
who cares about money? this will crush all of "phase one" and melt faces
DonaldBlake68 - 6/6/2013, 4:06 PM
I think it will get close to a Billion but not cross it. The sequel definitely will.
crimsoncrusader - 6/6/2013, 4:07 PM
Well I'm going to see it at least 4 times, and I've only bought 1 ticket in advanced so far. So take me into account as well! haha
6guerin - 6/6/2013, 4:08 PM
if the marketing campaign in the rest of europe is the same that in france don't excpect a strong box office here. the first theatrical trailer i saw ( and i go two times a week at theater) was for fast and furious 6 two week ago and for after earth tonight. I hope a big WOM for this movie and of course a Justice League movie.

what a great time to be a comic book fan
Kevinwillpeabodyproperties - 6/6/2013, 4:09 PM
130 million opening weekend and 375 domestic
marvel72 - 6/6/2013, 4:11 PM

Jollem - 6/6/2013, 4:11 PM
