MAN OF STEEL To Be Edgy Like THE DARK KNIGHT According To Teenage Clark Kent

Apparently that's the goal for director Zack Snyder. Dylan Sprayberry, who portrays teenage Clark Kent has revealed that Man of Steel won't be your grandfather's Superman movie.

SuperMan Man of Steel

Talking to about his upcoming episode of Glee, actor Dylan Sprayberry also dished out a few intriguing tidbits about Zack Snyder's Man of Steel.

Question:Can you tell us a little about Man of Steel and your upcoming projects?

Sprayberry: I just finished shooting Man of Steel. That was in Canada and Chicago. I filmed that all last year. After that I did “Common Law.” That’s going to be on USA coming up pretty soon. I played the son of Sonya Walger. That was really cool.

Question: What will people really love about Man of Steel?

Sprayberry: When Zack [Snyder] and I were talking about it the first time, he was saying how Superman, they want to give it a more edgy feel like The Dark Knight but also make it more realistic and emotional so it’s not just the all-american superhero that saves everyone. He has dilemmas and love and struggles throughout the whole movie, especially when he’s a kid.

Dylan Sprayberry will portray young Clark Kent in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot.

Man of Steel is an upcoming superhero film under the development of Zack Snyder, Christopher Nolan, and David S. Goyer. Will you take the word of a kid called "Dylan Sprayberry"?
NerdyGeek - 4/10/2012, 2:55 PM
What did you expect from a film with Christopher Nolan involved? :)
superbatspiderman - 4/10/2012, 2:59 PM
I have a feeling that this will be a fantastic movie. Everything I have see so far I have liked. I hope this is the best Superman movie ever. Maybe we'll see a teaser or something during the Hobbit.
LP4 - 4/10/2012, 3:00 PM
Thank Jesus finally a good Superman film.
Knightrider - 4/10/2012, 3:02 PM
Well as much as I love the classic Superman he has needed updating to suite the modern world. Yes he can still inspire hope, but needs to have more relatable problems and issues. Not teenage angst, but suffer from what common people do. Overall if this is true like the sound of it, edgy also doesn't mean dark for those who might jump on that.

theangrytroll - 4/10/2012, 3:12 PM
Please, if there is a God, let this kid be wrong. Edgy? Realistic? CRAP! On top of the EXTREMELY godawful costume, the abysmal logo redesign, and Nolan's involvement? This thing is shaping up to be worse than "The Quest for Peace."
Spidey91 - 4/10/2012, 3:13 PM
"...they want to give it a more edgy feel like The Dark Knight..."
wait,what?? o_O
rbfn04 - 4/10/2012, 3:15 PM

Tackleberry was the shit!

"more realistic and emotional so it’s not just the all-american superhero that saves everyone. He has dilemmas and love and struggles throughout the whole movie"

Good, finally a realistic take on a alien that flies, can lift busses, and is bulletproof...fighting other aliens like Zod...wait...what?

Most Superman movies and TV shows shined bright spotlights on his dilemmas, love, and struggles outside the Super suit due to budget restraints. I want a Superman movie which lets go of that BS and has some knock-down, drag-out, super fights, something we have yet to see in live action. We have seen everything else, make a Superman movie where he throws punches!

luckily, these are quotes from some child actor, and Zack has shown he has a firm grasp on action. So I am hoping what I know of Snyder outweighs the quotes from this kid.
THABATMAN - 4/10/2012, 3:16 PM
Sounds good.
I'm 99% sure the teaser trailer will be with TDKR

I can't wait for this movie! Hopefully it won't let me down like GL last year
Supersonicboobs - 4/10/2012, 3:16 PM

"but also make it more realistic and emotional so it’s not just the all-american superhero that saves everyone. He has dilemmas and love and struggles throughout the whole movie"

Well, that part of the interview didn't sound so bad. It was just the other parts....
NewSuperAvengerCBM - 4/10/2012, 3:18 PM
I've had enough of grif! Let's either remove him, kill him or send him to the land I call "Trollland"!
NextHero08 - 4/10/2012, 3:21 PM
rocky - 4/10/2012, 3:23 PM
grif you forgot the option of Nolan Sucks Dick
MovieMann - 4/10/2012, 3:26 PM
Why are people flipping out over his use of the word "Edgy"?
antonio - 4/10/2012, 3:30 PM
Sweet. Maybe Superman will finally throw a punch. 8)
BruceLeroy - 4/10/2012, 3:33 PM
A Superman movie doesn't have to be edgy in order for it to be good. That's a [frick]ing crutch due to an inability to make a good and relevant superman movie. If Captain America's bland ass could have a good movie that kept his character in tact, Superman shouldn't have a problem.

Now we have this mentality of taking The Dark Knight approach with Superhero movies. Don't get me wrong, I love TDK. It's one of my favorite movies. But the fact that Hollywood is trying to take that approach with characters like Spiderman and Superman is annoying.
SageMode - 4/10/2012, 3:35 PM
I hope we see some DragonBall Z-style fight scenes in this.
rbfn04 - 4/10/2012, 3:35 PM
THANK YOU, BRUCELEROY. Thank you for escaping this "edgy, dark, gritty is cool" mentality. And understanding the superhero.
Greengo - 4/10/2012, 3:37 PM

SotNatt - 4/10/2012, 3:39 PM
Don't be boring. Just...don't be boring.

That's all I ask of a new Superman movie.

I DON'T WANT TO GO TO SLEEP AT THE CINEMA! Like I did seven years ago...
Greengo - 4/10/2012, 3:39 PM
However comma I do agree that fan art gave me a whack atack.
BlindLemonShemp - 4/10/2012, 3:45 PM
I've already seen the dark, gritty, edgy version of superman where he has real world problems and is still a beacon of hope...

its called Hobo With A Shotgun
TheOverlord - 4/10/2012, 3:49 PM
Ugh. Isn't this what they said about Green Lantern too?
LordHuck - 4/10/2012, 4:03 PM
Finally a Superman movie worth watching.
Gerrit - 4/10/2012, 4:25 PM
This could go well, or it could be a pile of shit. I want Superman to be the ultimate hero, the one I would like to be real the most, not just because of his powers but because of his integrity and his character. If they make him "dark" just like Batman then it's BS.
I mean, look what they are doing to Spider-Man.
InFamouslyCool - 4/10/2012, 4:27 PM
The Dark Knight rules.

"love and struggles".. not good.
marvel72 - 4/10/2012, 4:28 PM
superman isn't meant to be edgy like the dark knight,f*ck i really want this film to be good.
Action - 4/10/2012, 4:59 PM
It is only realistic for Clark to feel "edgy." I think Zack Snyder and Co., want Superman to be a little defensive and nervous when it comes to being among humans. Everyone, remember, Clark eventually discovers he not from Earth.
ClarkStark - 4/10/2012, 4:59 PM
Superman growing up with dilemnas with struggles?

So Superman is now Peter Parker.
Lert - 4/10/2012, 5:05 PM
i want cussin' gettin drunk and boobs in this movie... !
