New MAN OF STEEL Behind-The-Scenes Images With Henry Cavill As Superman

Hit the jump to check out some terrific behind-the-scenes images from the making of Zack Snyder's Superman film, Man of Steel. The images include Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe and Michael Shannon.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

Man Of Steel was directed by Zack Snyder, from a script written by David Goyer. The cast includes: Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, Ayelet Zurer, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Christopher Meloni, Harry Lennix, Laurence Fishburne and Richard Schiff.

Nice. :D They used a lot of wire work. That's impressive.:D Good movie, still buying it on Blu ray.
SuperCat - 10/20/2013, 2:00 PM

Best Comicbookmovie of the year so far
Can Thor Dark World take it back for Marvel?
TheWolverine08 - 10/20/2013, 2:01 PM
Dude really looks like Superman!
SauronsBANE - 10/20/2013, 2:01 PM
Behind the scenes pictures are always fun to see. Say what you want about the actual movie, but they put a lot of effort into physically making this movie. I can't imagine how much fun it must've been for Cavill to be doing scenes while wearing an awesome Superman suit.
3DWitchHunt - 10/20/2013, 2:02 PM
Always cool to see these behind the scenes pitures
Cant wait to see how BvS expands the DCCU

THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 10/20/2013, 2:04 PM
The fight looks so much more personal behind the scenes. In the film the whole battle looked cgi.
MrCBM56 - 10/20/2013, 2:06 PM
Great movie. Can't wait to buy it on DvD

I hope they make the abs on his muscle undersuit more realistic for the sequel.
ekrolo2 - 10/20/2013, 2:10 PM
Wow so they didn't use a real cape for the fights? I hope they do the same with Batman because the cap really impaired the fighting choreography in past films, plus they were able to make the cape look real enough to fool me.

I agree, Cavill look liked a boss with that beard before he got the costume, I wish he kept it on TBH.
thewolfx - 10/20/2013, 2:12 PM
Cavill is such a boss
Ocelot - 10/20/2013, 2:12 PM
The film was substansially medicore like another big budget summer superhero movie that was released earlier this year. A forgettable 6/10 is just about right, though the more I think about the film, the worse it gets, however it's the best Superman film to date and is leaps and bounds ahead of those almost unwatchable and trash Richard Donnor films along with the two crapolla sequels. I can finally take the character somewhat seriously.
Super12 - 10/20/2013, 2:12 PM
Can't wait to buy this on bluray and watch it over and over and over again. That cape looks so good you cant even till they did it in post!

That game footage is sweet too. Looks like the underlying theme (at least in the beginning) really is going to be Bats vs. Supes since its clear Snyder wants to help establish that by showing a heated game between Metropolis and Gotham. Can't wait!

Favorite film of the year and definitely in my top 5 comic book films. The CGI was also fantastic and this helps to showcase the hard work that went into that and the wire work.
Dandy - 10/20/2013, 2:14 PM
It really is amazing how much of the cape was CGI.

Green Lantern....take note. That is how you do a CGI addition to a costume.
SoundWave - 10/20/2013, 2:14 PM
What about deleted scenes? Glass-break scene and Zod's dogs scene. Where are they? >.< arrrgh...
MrReese - 10/20/2013, 2:14 PM

dat suit!!!
HavocPrime - 10/20/2013, 2:15 PM
Really cool to see how they did all the flying parts, and I am a little surprised that the cloak was mostly cgi, did not even notice that.
TheWolverine08 - 10/20/2013, 2:15 PM
Wow, didn't know the cape was CGI.
Prime - 10/20/2013, 2:17 PM
Dude was HUGE.
JamesMan - 10/20/2013, 2:17 PM
Still don't get the complaints over the final fight with Zod. It looked spectacular, showcased Superman's power, had a lot of emotion, covered so much ground (and space!) in only 5 minutes, and was everything I ever wanted to see from Superman in animation and comics finally put to live action. I watched the fight again last night with a friend and we were talking about why we love the film and the fight so much.

"however it's the best Superman film to date and is leaps and bounds ahead of those almost unwatchable and trash Richard Donnor films along with the two crapolla sequels."

While I disagree with your views on MoS I agree that the Donner/Lester films are horrid, not just as comic book films but as films in general.
CavEl - 10/20/2013, 2:23 PM
First picture...

Zod: touch it! Touch my cock!
Superman: Noooo! That's gay!
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 10/20/2013, 2:26 PM
I can't believe how much of this film was done practically. The use of filters, shaky came, added effect make all that work look fake.
Prime - 10/20/2013, 2:28 PM
The Donner movies aren't that good.
JamesMan - 10/20/2013, 2:30 PM
"The original Superman as a film was excruciatingly mediocre. Not to mention the massive gaping plot hole at the end."

Spinning the world back in time? Ugh... that was baaaad. And then Donner used it again in his cut of Superman II, the cut that was supposed to be "better." Both versions are still bad.
TheWolverine08 - 10/20/2013, 2:31 PM
Still love that suit!
AnthonyLantern - 10/20/2013, 2:32 PM
very cool
Prime - 10/20/2013, 2:33 PM
That whole flying backward in time sucked. But at that time SA Superman was dominant.
