Superman Fan Starts Campaign To Get His Hometown Renamed To SMALLVILLE

A Superman fan who lives in Hutchinson, Kansas has started a campaign in hope his hometown would get renamed Smallville, because of all the similarities to the source material, as well as helping the community. Check it out...

Christopher Wietrick, who is a big Superman fan and a comic book artist, has decided to start a campaign so his town would get a new name: Smallville. He lives in Hutchinson, Kansas and by doing this, he also wants to help the community. It's interesting that the town already has a Superman costume in a museum, then there are roads named "Clark" and "Kent," and some other similarities which you can see in the video by clicking HERE.

Wietrick also launched a Facebook page, and this is what he had to say:

"We believe that the city of Hutchinson has enough in common with the fictitious town of "Smallville, KS" to warrant the changing of our lovely hometown's name. Our hometown has several tourist attractions already. We would love to see that increase by a great amount and we strongly believe that (should this happen) it would be a huge economic boost to the city, county and area. Our goal is for Warner Brothers and DC Comics to recognize Hutchinson as the REAL Smallville. We believe that no town in America has a better argument for the title."

So, what do you think of all this? Share your thoughts below.

drfate - 9/7/2012, 8:10 AM
apparently there's nothing else to do in Hutchinson...
Mrcool210 - 9/7/2012, 8:13 AM
he wants his town to not only have the reputation of the tv show but also the meteor capital of the world? thats one dedicated fan
Zarog - 9/7/2012, 8:13 AM
No. Just, no. Hutch is NOT Smallville. Please, for the love of God, can KS outlaw stupid people. It would get rid of well over 2 million people in this state.
Marqy47 - 9/7/2012, 8:17 AM
Wasnt Gotham originally the name of some jewel store or something ???
Zarog - 9/7/2012, 8:18 AM
LEVITIKUZ Great comeback, but I would rather my state not be known for such stupid bullshit, so go ahead and shove that big brown dick that is currently in your mouth up your ass.

Hey... I lived in Hutch for 15 years and the town never really had a comic presence. I lived the town, from the cosmosphere to Carey park. This would be a big boost to the town. Plus I could say all of my five kids were born in Smallville.

Good Idea!!

@Cipher
Good history lesson bro
"Gotham" had long been a well-known nickname for New York City even prior to Batman's 1939 introduction,[3] which explains why "Gotham Jewelers" and many other businesses in New York City have the word "Gotham" in them. The nickname was popularized in the nineteenth century, having been first attached to New York by Washington Irving in the November 11, 1807 edition of his Salmagundi
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 9/7/2012, 8:43 AM
That would be awesome! Especially because it is in Kansas.
Misterfan - 9/7/2012, 8:44 AM
Gotham should be Detroit, that city is in need of the Batman
coolguy - 9/7/2012, 8:47 AM

Jollem - 9/7/2012, 8:53 AM

Jollem - 9/7/2012, 8:58 AM
@SteveRogersSon - lol
DrainBamage - 9/7/2012, 9:01 AM
That would be sort of cool. I'd make it stop #2 on my 'Small Town Geek Roadtrip.'

1. Roswell, NM
2. Smallville, KS
3. Riverside, IA (self proclaimed future birthplace of James T. Kirk)
4. Burkittsville, MD (for a little nature hiking, Blair Witch style)
Name - 9/7/2012, 9:02 AM
Selfish?

rubbish78 - 9/7/2012, 10:37 AM
Do it XD
SUPERSHADOWBAT - 9/7/2012, 10:44 AM
Well there is a Metropolis, Illinois! so why not a Smallville, Kansas? It would be a great way to give publicity for our hero, especially since MOS is opening next year.
Jordanstine - 9/7/2012, 10:58 AM
Next, some Superman fan in NY is going to have New York City renamed Metropolis.

And some Batman fan name Chicago, Gotham City.
sameoldthing - 9/7/2012, 11:07 AM
It's a cool idea..why be just another ho-hum city when you can be recognized worldwide as the hometown of the greatest superhero ever created.

LFANCH - 9/7/2012, 11:18 AM
Hutch is a little big to be smallville.
LFANCH - 9/7/2012, 11:18 AM
but it is nice to see kansas on cbm. it's not often something newsworthy happens here.
FOOM - 9/7/2012, 11:36 AM
Somebody with too much time on their hands it seems. And what do the townfolk think?
Super12 - 9/7/2012, 11:55 AM
BEST. IDEA. EVER. Haha actually it's not the worst idea in the world. Imagine the revenue the city could rake in barring any legal battles. I love the ideas mentioned about about naming streets "Lois Lane" and "Lex Avenue". If you check out their facebook page there are actually a lot of similarities that makes this work. I'd love to see them go for it. Kansas needs a Smallville, this could be huge for them!
Chilenator - 9/7/2012, 12:01 PM
I can see next ... Planet Earth renamed America .....
TheJoker52 - 9/7/2012, 12:32 PM
I live here in Kansas and we took a vote in the office we would love to have Hutchison become Smallville. I already have been trying to have a local store called the Kansas Sampler to carry Superman stuff. They already have Wizard of Oz stuff in their thought it would be cool to have the most important icon in comic history. I even added it gives them so much more inventory and a different kind of ustomer , except just sports fans.
TheOverlord - 9/7/2012, 1:07 PM
Hutchinson is Smallville, no bones about it — it's pretty consistently been there on the map.
MutantEquality - 9/7/2012, 1:42 PM
Why not?
JYCowboy - 9/7/2012, 2:53 PM
If he can get the town population behind the change, sure. Why not? Its more repersentative of its fictional counterpart than Metroplis Illinois is of the City of Tomarrow.
Fogs - 9/7/2012, 4:02 PM
Well, that's really stupid.
mgeoff88 - 9/7/2012, 5:21 PM
That would turn the town into a tourist attraction, which means more revenue for the city.

If he could get the whole town behind it, why not?

@Super12 Lol, there is street named Lois Lane 5 mins. from my house.
