MAN OF STEEL Costume Illustrator Talks Superman's New Suit
Get the details on the origin of the new suit. Is it related in any way to the New 52? Is it made by Martha Kent or something more Kryptonian? Is Zod mostly CGI? And apparently there was a big debate about the red undies. All these answers and more.
Illustrator Phillip Boutte talks about the design process for Zack Snyder's Superman suit in Man of Steel. Apparently the production wrestled with whether to include the red underwear before eventually deciding to go without them. So was that influenced by DC's New 52 suit? Not all, apparently the decision was simply based on the desire to make Superman more alien and the production felt that the underwear made him more earth-like. Famous concept artist Warren Manser was the man that actually came up with the suit design. The interview goes on to also reveal that the suit is of Kryptonian origin. There's a little bit of wordplay here, but I believe the interviewee may have confirmed that General Zod is mostly CGI in this film, that is to say, his costume is. So maybe he wears his infamous armor from the comic books?
