Next summer, "Man of Steel" is coming to the big screen. The film is from director Zack Snyder and producers Charles Roven, Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas and Deborah Snyder. The screenplay was written by David S. Goyer from a story by Goyer & Nolan, based upon Superman characters created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster and published by DC Comics.

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone’s imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question – Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as “Superman,” not only to shine as the world’s last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

That screenshot with superman flying is beautiful.
AtomicChipmunk - 7/22/2012, 10:11 AM
After teh sonic burst, he takes the classical flight position (with his arms upward).
TheAntiGrif - 7/22/2012, 10:12 AM
Superman flying is always done right for each generation this oone feels so right almost like seeing ironman fly in the first but more organic
brokenexcitement - 7/22/2012, 10:12 AM
I just wish that the teaser they had released with TDKR was the same teaser that was shown at Comic Con -__-
head - 7/22/2012, 10:13 AM
so whats with the screen grab of a little kids crotch? just sayin
CrashTest - 7/22/2012, 10:13 AM
Superman flying was freaking great! But it reminded me to much of the first Iron Man Trailer, except he's flying up.

I would have like to see something different.
Vafrous - 7/22/2012, 10:13 AM
I prefer the Jonathan Kent narrated teaser. You guys?
masterhater - 7/22/2012, 10:14 AM
I thought the trailer was beautifully shot. This is going to be a great movie.
JorEl85 - 7/22/2012, 10:15 AM
Wonder why he's hitch-hiking...
95 - 7/22/2012, 10:15 AM
This has some of the best cinematography I've seen in a comic book adaptation.
BlackFlash - 7/22/2012, 10:20 AM
From the look of the teaser trailer and the little bits of detail i've gotten, I think were gonna see a Smallville element to this when it comes to his trails in becoming superman. I got a feeling that all those images we've seen of him with his beard that he actually doesn't have any powers and that one of the task Jor-El gives him is to live amongst the people as one of them and everytime he decides to help someone he starts to regain his abilities. I think when he goes back to the fortress of solitude this is when he gains his ability to fly, that clip we see might be the first time he actually flies hence to reason it looked like he was struggling to break to sound barrier until he stretch his arms out in front of him.
Angelus - 7/22/2012, 10:21 AM
I will believe again!
AtomicChipmunk - 7/22/2012, 10:22 AM
@95
Too early to have an opinion?

@JorEl85
Spiritual travel?
or
Travelling toward the Fortress of Solitude?
AtomicChipmunk - 7/22/2012, 10:23 AM
@BlackFlash

I hope there will be no Smallville elements/inspiration. It would ruin the movie for me.
SuspenseSmith - 7/22/2012, 10:24 AM
I prefer Jor El more than Jonathan Kent. It was much more uplifting and beautiful.
SuspenseSmith - 7/22/2012, 10:29 AM
Notice that all these shots are like kind of hazy, early morning like. Interesting choice. It gives it a very emotional and intimate resonance. The look is stunning. Most CGI fest movies avoid the cloudy overcast look, but it sets a very unique tone that I like.

Also, the early morning look to everything kind of gives it a certain symbolic connection. A new era dawning, a new day about to break. The peaceful hours before the bustle of the day begins to pick up.
AsianVersionOfET - 7/22/2012, 10:30 AM
Great cinematography. Cannot wait.

Wonderful Teaser!

SUPERMAN = EPIC FAIL!!

I finally got a chance to hear and see the Russell Crowe narration and I've got to say, it makes me look forward to the epicness of Man of Steel. Since most people I've talked to have heard Kevin Costner's version, I assume they are going with a more grounded approach to general audience interpretation of the Man of Steel, which totally makes sense. They both serve a very different purpose. Those who cherish Christopher Reeve's presence will remember the great sense of destiny that Crowe now reiterates. And for everyone who is aware of the Man of Steel being the Batman Begins for Superman, then Costner's speech also inspires.

My question would be, what if they fuse the two? While it probably isn't realistic, I think it'd bring depth to a teaser trailer, conveying godliness and humanity all in one. As for the Lord of the Rings track behind the teaser, as a critique for its utilization in this teaser, it captures the essence of a very pure, pristine focus, a birth (or rebirth) if you will. It's like a light slowly starting to shine, shimmering faintly. Sure the track could've been different as it does sound off-putting for those who know its origin, but its purpose is just and rightfully claimed as the initiator to a new Superman.

As this is only a teaser, something tells me we have yet to see what happens when that light is at full burst. And I for one can't wait to see the clouds break.

Great teaser. I prefer the Jonathan Kent one. And I cant understand how Supes is "struggling" to break the sound barrier. He does it in less than 10 seconds.
Nubase - 7/22/2012, 10:47 AM
This is a quote from nolan when he was asked about man of steel, this was before the events in denver.

While promoting 'The Dark Knight Rises', director Christopher Nolan told Yahoo! Movies that new Superman film 'Man of Steel' was "the future of the superhero genre".

l believe that the man of steel franchase will be the birth of the JL Movie thats due to come out in 2016.

Most intriguing however is the choice of director. Snyder has one of the most recognisable visual styles in Hollywood, as seen in the highly stylised and meticulous compositions in '300', 'Sucker Punch' and 'Dawn of the Dead'. He also did a decent job of adapting the notoriously complex 'Watchmen' for the big screen.

He certainly impressed die-hard fans at this year's Comic-Con in San Diego. Similar 'Man of Steel' footage to what you're seeing above had many geeks in tears. One described himself as a "blubbering mess" after the screening. Another said: "Any doubt I had was gone with that trailer."
Snyder himself said that they rebuilt superman totally from scratch, ignoring the previous films and even John Williams' iconic score. He said: "We had to act as if no film has been made. When we approached it, we had to say 'this is Superman for the first time'.
"It's about making him work and making him cool."
ClarkFarley2012 - 7/22/2012, 10:48 AM
Amazing. Him hitch hiking is a very interesting element. Next summer can't come quick enough.
bretlfc - 7/22/2012, 10:50 AM
cannot wait for this film, loving the direction they have taken with it aswell.
Name - 7/22/2012, 10:51 AM
I hope the slow momens dont drag on like tdkr for this film. hey need to get a superman film right. The flyings good but its to be expected, returns had te perfect flyng effects. Please have a lot ofaction and super punches knocking people through buildings etc
GUNSMITH - 7/22/2012, 10:53 AM
IF HE CAN FLY, OR CAN RUN FASTER THAN A LOCOMOTIVE..

.....WHY?
Beatnation - 7/22/2012, 10:54 AM
@kemuael, exactly like your post.
JDUKE25 - 7/22/2012, 10:56 AM
@GUNSMITH Maybe he just doesn't feel like it. We'll have to wait till the movie to find out for sure.
Minotauro - 7/22/2012, 10:56 AM
@kemuael - I believe you know nothing about the character. Or you're a marvelite, either one.
GUNSMITH - 7/22/2012, 10:57 AM
TO GIVE A BRAND NEW INTERESTING SUPERMAN TO THE AUDIENCE YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING NOBODY HAS SEEN BEFORE..IT LOOKS GOOD, I CAN'T RELATE ANYTHING FROM THE TRAILER TO ANY OF THE PAST SUPERMAN MOVIES...THIS LOOKS LIKE IT'S GONNA DO JUST THAT.
inky - 7/22/2012, 10:57 AM
both voice overs worked well and both on different levels, one can only hope that zac has kept within the realms of supermans origins in this and not made too many big changs a superman fans are less forgiving than many others.
i only hope the producers named dont interfere
JDUKE25 - 7/22/2012, 11:01 AM
Jeremy Jahns said it best about the two different versions: One is about choice (Pa Kent), the other is about destiny (Jor El).

Netman0007 - 7/22/2012, 11:02 AM
That last shot of him flying is awesome
SuspenseSmith - 7/22/2012, 11:04 AM
@Gunsmith

My guess is that he's hitchhiking because he's probably at a point in his life where he doesn't want to be different. He wants to ignore his "freak" abilities. He just wants to be human.

That's probably why
Superduper - 7/22/2012, 11:06 AM
@ GUNSMITH
I think he's hitching it, because he wants to feel more human? Also the synopsis of the movie says Clark is in his 20's. In some of the Superman story lines, it takes him a long time of being exposed to our yellow sun before most of his powers develop; maybe he's just too young to fly at this point of the movie?
JDUKE25 - 7/22/2012, 11:06 AM
@SuspenseSmith seems about right
Fxrank - 7/22/2012, 11:09 AM
I can only hope Nolan took no part in the writing or directing. I would hate to see another Nolan origin re-write.
sbdc1939 - 7/22/2012, 11:10 AM
trailer was great cant wait to see what everyone at comic con got to see. I like that jor el and pa kent both hav different ideologies on how clark will affect the world
wanzman74 - 7/22/2012, 11:17 AM
It sees that Clark would be hitchhiking for the simple reason that he wants to try and hold on to some sense of humanity. From what I have read about the film he does not fully embrace his kryptonian side and powers and feels very alone in the world. Not using his powers helps him maintain some connection to the people around him. It isn't until his hand is forced by Zod that he is forced to embrace his Kryptonian side to save the people he wishes to identify with....
Ironcap - 7/22/2012, 11:27 AM
Never really liked superman so it's hard for me to even get excited for this film or any film that includes the character Batman is terrific because we see different sides and portrayals of the character while superman is bland and never changes only thing that changes this from the other is that they're not using Luther for the hundredth time
GUNSMITH - 7/22/2012, 11:27 AM
I WONDER IF HE'S GONNA PLAY KENT AS A SUPER NERD..I MISS THE REEVES FUNNY MOMENTS.
Superduper - 7/22/2012, 11:27 AM
@ wanzman74

You nailed it! ...I just read more about film, youre exactly right.

-On a side note, I hope they don't make Clark a martyr about his amazing powers.
95 - 7/22/2012, 11:29 AM
@AtomicChipmunk Try: legitimate guess.
HeatNation - 7/22/2012, 11:31 AM
I don't judge this trailer much. It has one purpose for those who didn't know a superman movie was coming. You start watching the trailer and of course you are intrigued then it ends with the revelation....they are making another superman?!? You just give the people a little tease. That's the purpose of a teaser trailer to me. Sure they could have done this and they could have done that. Could have shown him more up close, could have shown Lois.

Some say this doesnt pull new fans in, but I think it at least put superman in their minds and they have to at least notice the new feel to it. The movie is not until june, you can't go out and give them this immaculate trailer so early. Wouldn't make much sense.

Never the less, I'm loving the producers saying they are trying to inject more emotion into the superman series. I kinda like this different edge to it. Cinematography does look amazing. Doesn't look like the dumb lifetime movie, superman returns. To me this movie will be more amazing that any other superman ever shown and if this ends up being a trilogy it will also be the worst in the trilogy b/c well it's an intro story and to me intro stories are never the best in a trilogy (except iron man was way better than iron man 2).

I'm very interested to see the journey clark goes throw. Is he gonna be a freelance writer working jobs away from smallville and secretly hide his powers and then have to use them when something goes wrong ultimately making him come back to smallville? Is he gonna actually just work as a fisherman and then something happen to bring him back to smallville? Obviously im dying to know the plot, but i'm excited about the unknown and what they are looking to do. I don't think this movie will have a smallville vibe to it at all. And i think he will have his powers the whole time.
