Zack Snyder On MAN OF STEEL, "What Would You Do If You Were SUPERMAN?'

"We decided to act as if no Superman film had been made - even though we love the films that have been made." --Zack Snyder

Speaking on Warner Bros.' only 'officially-greenlit' comic book movie Man of Steel, in the latest issue of Total Film Magazine, director Zack Snyder offered the following words about his project---

"We decided to act as if no Superman film had been made - even though we love the films that have been made."

"We had to say this is a Superman movie for the first time and you can't then go 'Oh, now let's steal a little music.'

"So, yes [the original score is] awesome music but Hans Zimmer is going to do something awesome."

"Superman is a big responsibility but I felt he needed to be reintroduced to a generation and I thought this was a great opportunity."

"We have great respect for the canon. I would say it is a clashing of stories and ideas. Superman is the king-daddy of all superheroes - to make him work is a big deal."

"The big challenge is if you can make people feel 'What would you do if you were Superman?' That's what we went out to do as far as we could. Superman's always been this kind of big blue boy-scout up on a throne that nobody can really touch, so we tried to make him relatable."

When asked if Man of Steel would lead to a Justice League spinoff, Snyder re-echoed his San Diego Comic Con sentiments that Superman is the "jewel of the DC crown" and that the studio needs to successful adapt that character first in order to get to the Justice League movie.

Based on the DC Comics character Superman, the film will be a reboot of the Superman film series. Using Chicago and Vancouver as a backdrop, with production to be based in west suburban Plano, Illinois, the film entered principal photography in August 2011, for a planned theatrical release on June 14, 2013 by Warner Bros., which also includes IMAX venues.

Clark Kent is a journalist in his twenties who was adopted as a child by Martha and Jonathan Kent after he was transported to Earth from the dying planet Krypton. Raised with the values of his adoptive parents, he feels alienated because of his unique super abilities and struggles to find his place in life. When the world is attacked, he becomes the hero Superman to protect its people.

Looking forward it's time to stop worshiping the Reeve Superman as much as I like him as Supes time for something new and fresh I think that's what Reeve would want
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 8/13/2012, 9:41 AM
What would I do if I were Superman?

Two chicks at the same time.

Fantine - 8/13/2012, 9:41 AM
Reeve was overrated.

There I said it.
xXkryptoniteXx - 8/13/2012, 9:42 AM
Something tells me that this superman won't be the big blue boy scout but a new version that has a bad side, like all humans do.

WOTAN - 8/13/2012, 9:47 AM
Zack snyder is a hack director and all of his movies suck.
Unas - 8/13/2012, 9:48 AM
I love Nolan's storytelling vision and also love Snyders directorial compass. Great team up if you ask me. I hope that this meets my expectations.
TheAmazingSpiderMan47 - 8/13/2012, 9:50 AM
i gotta be honest ... behaving like no previous movies had been made may not be the best direction to go, i mean the audience wont behave like that, look at TASM
Joker08 - 8/13/2012, 9:50 AM
All of these quotes are taken right from the Comic-Con Q&A. Is TotalFilm having a hard time getting new stories now or something?
WOTAN - 8/13/2012, 9:50 AM
I cant believe that dc is betting their future on this guy smh, just another example of why they continue to choke on marvels exhaust fumes.
Unas - 8/13/2012, 9:50 AM
Hopefully DC does what Marvel did for Hulk to Green Lantern. I'm sorry, Green Lantern was GARBAGE!

CaptainObvious - 8/13/2012, 9:51 AM
I think everybody should know by now that Snyder is not a good public speaker.
StSharp - 8/13/2012, 9:52 AM

I agree. He's seen as Superman because he was the first real life supehero back in the day and people haven't let go of that image when they were kids. I liked him, he was great, but it's time to move on and add another great Superman to the history :D
PeterParker1991 - 8/13/2012, 9:52 AM
This is going to be the Superman movie I've been waiting for, just like how Amazing Spiderman is in my opinion the best Spiderman film ever. Bring it!!!!!
Supes17 - 8/13/2012, 9:53 AM
Pretty sure I'd end up like this:

Unas - 8/13/2012, 9:54 AM
Stop hatin' Wotan. Marvel also has a track record for shitty movies as well. Thankfully, both companies are getting their act together and pleasing their fans.
Unas - 8/13/2012, 9:55 AM
How do you post pictures/ videos on this site?!
Unas - 8/13/2012, 9:56 AM
Superman Returns never existed in my eyes lol
tonytony - 8/13/2012, 9:59 AM

Supes17 - 8/13/2012, 9:59 AM
Superman Returns made it to theaters? Not bad for a fan film... :P
Supes17 - 8/13/2012, 10:02 AM
@Catwoman1: AHH geez! Look what you did! You hurt Reeve Superman's feelings:( He's all pissed off now.

Thanks a lot, [frick]er :P
DanteSparda - 8/13/2012, 10:02 AM
Sounds he's really going in the right direction.

Once again the fate of the DC Universe hangs in the hands of Superman, but this time we aren't talking about comics, but DC movies, if Superman fails all DC heroes would be doomed in movies, at least for a very long while like 5 or 6 years.
GodzillaKart - 8/13/2012, 10:04 AM
Really looking forward to this. Snyder is going to have to up his game for it to be the movie I'm hoping for.
themediator96 - 8/13/2012, 10:07 AM

ElShumway - 8/13/2012, 10:15 AM
Why was my comment deleted? I only wrote the truth. These quotes are old - from comic-con. Total Film simply used them for their article. MJ must be butthurt or something.
SkateandDestroy88 - 8/13/2012, 10:18 AM
Something tells me if this film performs well which I'm sure it will we may see Snyderman be the go to guy for a JLA film. Watchmen was pretty incredble even though after watching it ironically thought there goes the chances of seeing a justice league film.
Snyder directing plus someone else writing plus Get some DC guys to keep an eye on things. Hire Bruce Timm for f*cks sake.
If I were superman it would be a tie using powers between flight, invonerability, and of course X ray vision. That would be pretty awesome. Heh heh
Fantine - 8/13/2012, 10:18 AM
Im allowed an opinion.
NOLANITE - 8/13/2012, 10:25 AM
I'd fly to Mars.
I'd use my xray abilities to see through tops.
I'd punch the crap out of Whedon.
I'd out swim Michael Phelps.
I'd out run that fast dude from Nigeria.
I'd have the ultimate stare down with chuck Norris.
l0rdleg0las - 8/13/2012, 10:27 AM
I am sorry to say but if I were Superman I would not be the selfless hero but instead be self serving and do everything I wanted.
OnLeatherWings - 8/13/2012, 10:28 AM
I really like the sound of all this. This movie has so much potential...don't let us down snyder. Pave the way for a justice league movie
RedeyeJedi - 8/13/2012, 10:36 AM
If I had Superman's powers, I'd be Batman.
angus666 - 8/13/2012, 10:39 AM
This is going to be awesome.

If I had Superman's powers, I'd have fun. Nobody could hurt me so I'd have literally no worries at all.
Supes17 - 8/13/2012, 10:41 AM
I'd still dress up as Batman...
Maximus101 - 8/13/2012, 10:41 AM
@doubleD let me guess you have more interest in the third movie of ironman lol I'm sorry I love ironman (the first one) which is one of my favorite cbm's, but man of steel is going to be the best cbm in 2013.
Supes17 - 8/13/2012, 10:42 AM
I would kill Supervillains
