Zack Snyder Talks MAN OF STEEL; Calls Superman The Father Of All Superheroes

While talking about about the upcoming Ultimate Cut of The Watchman, Zack Snyder talked a little bit about Man Of Steel, and taking him more serious than previous movies have. Click here to check it out.

Zack Snyder is hard a work on his upcoming Superman movie Man of Steel, but took time out his busy schedule to talk with Hero Complex about the soon to be released Ultimate Cut of The Watchman. While chatting with them, he talked about how he is taking Superman more serious than other movies have in the past. He also talked about his reason for wanting to do a movie on Superman was because he is the King-daddy of all Superheroes. Check out the full quote below:

It’s a more serious version of Superman. It’s not like a heart attack. We took the mythology seriously. We take him as a character seriously. I believe the movie would appeal to anyone. I think that you’re going to see a Superman you’ve never seen before. We approached it as though no other films had been made. He’s the king-daddy. Honestly that’s why I wanted to do it. I’m interested in Superman because he’s the father of all superheroes. He’s this amazing ambassador for all superheroes. What was it about him that cracked the code that made pop culture embrace this other mythology? What we‘ve made as a film not only examines that but is also an amazing adventure story. It’s been an honor to work on. As a comic book fan, Superman is like the Rosetta Stone of all superheroes. I wanted to be sure the movie treated it respectfully.

As of right now there is not a lot known about where Man of Steel will go. Rumors have been circulating that Man of Steel will kick off a shared universe for DC. There have also been rumors that Snyder might even be somehow involved with the Justice League project. While at San Diego Comic con this year Snyder didn't rule out the possibility of his Superman showing up in a Justice League movie, and based on how he keeps talking about Superman being an ambassador for all superheros it wouldn't be a total shock.

To check out the rest of the interview where Snyder talks The Watchman Ultimate cut, Before Watchman, and whether he is pro Watchman prequels head on over to the Hero Complex. For the latest on all things Man Of Steel check back here at CBM

Not only is Superman the father of all superheroes, well, at least in a modern context. But he is also the greatest superhero. I believe Man of Steel will make him relevant again. It will make us believe again!
Tony93 - 11/12/2012, 1:49 PM

Zack Snyder Talks MAN OF STEEL; Calls Superman The Father Of All Superheroes

no shit sherlock.
CaptainObvious - 11/12/2012, 1:58 PM
@LEVITIKUZ- There were other superheroes before Superman, but none of them had the same impact on pop culture that Supes did. I do agree that without him, most of the characters we know wouldn't exist today.
StuckInPanels - 11/12/2012, 2:01 PM
theres an Ultimate Watchmen coming out? what more can they do with it? are they going to splice in the black freighter moments?
Supes17 - 11/12/2012, 2:05 PM
Beautiful words
Superman's the shit!
Fortress - 11/12/2012, 2:06 PM
In Zack I trust!!!
Superheromoviefan - 11/12/2012, 2:07 PM
Actually the first superhero was Hercules, but Superman set the rules like Psycho which was the first slasher movie, but Halloween set the rules.
Rothwilder - 11/12/2012, 2:08 PM

They already did that. I have that version. was only sold on Amazon.
EdgyOutsider - 11/12/2012, 2:08 PM
I've always hated Superman. The original Christopher Reeve film was really good and Superman Returns was decent. I am looking forward to Man of Steel because of it's cast and the visual style of Snyder. Other than that, it's hit or miss for me cause Snyder is hit or miss.

ManOfKrypton - 11/12/2012, 2:09 PM
That's it Zack you tell them. Supeman will always be my favourite Superhero of all time!
TheGambitFreak - 11/12/2012, 2:11 PM
MOS will be great! Zack has yet to disappoint!
HavocPrime - 11/12/2012, 2:13 PM
Want to see that trailer they showed at comic con, the teaser is good an all, but I want to see more.
thebatspider - 11/12/2012, 2:16 PM
Superman was the first superhero, without him, there wouldnt exist the superheroes that we know, i hope man of steel will be great becuase superman returns was boring.
BrotherStarkofMABMindz - 11/12/2012, 2:16 PM

RedeyeJedi - 11/12/2012, 2:19 PM
@HavocPrime- I agree completely, we need to see Supes in action!
Optimus83 - 11/12/2012, 2:19 PM
I want Lex Luthor and Supergirl in the sequel, my suggestions:

Billy Zane as Lex Luthor

Jennifer Lawrence as Kara Kent/Supergirl

Arnold Vosloo as Lex Luthor

Kate Upton as Kara Kent/Supergirl
FoxForce5 - 11/12/2012, 2:23 PM
I'd really like to know what the new "Ultimate Cut" has that the last "Ultimate Cut" didn't. The only thing that stands out is the part in the books where Rorschach talks about working with the material that he made his mask(s) out of and the rape case that pushed him into vigilantism in the first place but I thought they didn't even film that so I don't know what else there can possibly be. I mean, the last version was pretty damn comprehensive.
GammaVerve - 11/12/2012, 2:24 PM
Couldn't care less about the 'father of superheroes'. What a lame and outdated character.
AztecRainGod - 11/12/2012, 2:24 PM
Supes is the father of all superheroes? Damn, Wilt Chamberlain must be rolling in his grave...
Jollem - 11/12/2012, 2:25 PM
who's yer daddy? :)

i was pleased the first time i heard snyder was doing superman. dudes got skills
MCMLXXXII - 11/12/2012, 2:27 PM
superman IS the daddy, that isn't even up for debate, and i'm not even a supes fan..

he is the hercules, the samson, etc. of our modern mythology..

no to kate upton as kara even jennifer lawrence, no to supergirl at all..
billy zane as luthor.. make it happen..

EdgyOutsider - 11/12/2012, 2:28 PM
I hope if they do a sequel, they will bring in Metallo as the villain. I hate the character with a passion but, if the trailer looks good then I feel that Man of Steel has hope. Out of all the villains, Metallo is definitely my favorite.
TheGothamKnight1939 - 11/12/2012, 2:28 PM

Not saying the movie won't be epic (from what I've seen, it looks [frick]ing awesome) but you left out a certain Snyder movie from that list...
jimpinto24 - 11/12/2012, 2:29 PM
Zack Snyder is right. Superman is the grand daddy of all superheros.
Marqy - 11/12/2012, 2:30 PM
Spideyguy94 - 11/12/2012, 2:30 PM
Can't wait for this
INSTANTJUSTICE - 11/12/2012, 2:32 PM

So Superman's a 'king-daddy' now. That's how boring he is.
Knightrider - 11/12/2012, 2:33 PM
Yep, all for Lex making an appearance, but Supergirl is a massive 'No' in my opinion. Superman being the last of his kind especially when having to confront Zod where he has to choose restoring his native world or his adopted is great because fighting Zod means losing any chance of bring his people back.

Having Supergirl, who just happens to be his cousin takes so much away from that type of conflict as Superman can just be like "Who cares if Zod dies, I have my family around anyways, even my dog is here"

Superman, with the exception of Zod, should be the last Kryptonian, No Supergirl, no superdog, and no other survivors.
Knightrider - 11/12/2012, 2:35 PM
@GothamKnight In his defence he wrote Sucker Punch, which was probably the issue there, he should stick to directing.
FoxForce5 - 11/12/2012, 2:42 PM
@ Knightrider: come on, I can't wait for the big screen version of "Comet the Superhorse" and "Beppo the Supermonkey" and who can't agree that "Streaky the Supercat" isn't one of the best names ever?!

STREAKY for "The Man of Steel" sequel! Up, up and away!!!
pro346 - 11/12/2012, 2:45 PM
Isn't watchmen ultimate cut already out? I seem to have it on bluray!
TheGothamKnight1939 - 11/12/2012, 2:45 PM

Fair enough point, at least he won't be writing MoS.
ElShumway - 11/12/2012, 2:47 PM
@INSTANTJUSTICE Says the guy with a DREDD avatar, lmfao!

Anyway, Snyder is awesome and Superman IS the king, no matter what some jealous freaks here think. And Man of Steel is going to prove that. So prepare yourself kids, after June next year the king will return to his rightful throne and all others will bow before his glory!

Snoochie Boochies!!
SugarYumYum - 11/12/2012, 2:47 PM
Nice words, Zack but tbh you didn't really say anything we didn't already know. lol

MOS will still own anyway (it better Snyder I would like at least ONE good Superman movie for my generation). I know quite a few people here are tired of Lex but a cameo would be epic. Can't have Batman w/o Joker and you can't have Supes w/o Lex, just the way it is.
Knightrider - 11/12/2012, 2:51 PM
@Foxforce5 Haha, well you never mentioned Streaky that changes everything. haha

Although, I in terms of Kara, why don't Superman just shag her and have her give birth to more Kryptonians? Now doing that between two humans can cause genetic problems, and is disgusting, but may not be the same for Kryptonians especially those under a yellow sun...I feel this should be addressed at least.

drykillogic22 - 11/12/2012, 2:51 PM
Who's Yo
DukeAcureds - 11/12/2012, 2:53 PM
pro346@ Is that the Ultimate Cut or the Director's Cut?
There's a lot o talk on another thread about TDKR getting Oscars, right now, but I'm really holding out for Man of Steel, myself. It looks awesome, from what Zack says up there, it's obvious that he totally gets it. And with Goyer and Nolan on board too? Fuggedaboutit.
As far as I'm concerned the Superman mythology extends to all of DC, Marvel, Dark Horse and Image. It is the ultimate geek myth of our time.
