Guillermo Del Toro In Talks With A Writer For <strike>HEAVEN SENT</strike> DARK UNIVERSE

In a video interview, the director confirms that he is indeed working on the DC "superhero" team up flick, and is talking to the "perfect" writer for the project. He also says that the working title is actually Dark Universe, and reveals some of the characters that will be involved..

In the following video interview Guillermo del Toro finally comes out and admits that he is working on a loose adaptation of the DC comic Justice League Dark. "I'm doing it", he says. "I'm writing an outline". Del Toro also reveals that he will be working with another writer who is "the perfect guy for the job" but won't reveal his name. He says that they really hope to do it but everything depends on a green-light from Warner Bros. Then, when asked about the characters involved Del Toro confirms that we will see the least! - Swamp Thing, John Constantine, Deadman, Etrigan, Specter, Zatana and Zatara. Check out the video for yourselves..

Would much rather see a regular Justice League movie than this
BruceLeroy - 1/7/2013, 4:36 PM
I'd be very surprised if this actually gets made given how WB is probably more focused on DC's bigger characters like The Flash. Should be good if we ever see it on the big screen.
Bandido - 1/7/2013, 4:37 PM
Wonder who is this "perfect" writer? Hhmmmm
VERY good news!
shamo - 1/7/2013, 4:42 PM
Zatana's the only character i really character about from the team but still... if GDT doing it then this just made my most anticpated list.
kooldeath - 1/7/2013, 4:52 PM
I would go to see this. I love Justice League Dark. DC needs to give other characters to shine besides Superman and Batman. Maybe he would get Jeff Lemire to write it, since he is doing a great job on the series.

I'm excited, but cautiously so. He's always got a slew of projects "underway" and we don't get a whole lot of 'em. I'll expect years of teases and articles titled "Guillermo Del Toro Talks about Progress on Dark Universe" where he'll "It's coming along, and we want it to happen. But we want to make sure we get it right." or some such. If it actually comes together, though, and he's at the helm, it'll be worth the wait.

AWESOME news, man! Del Toro FTW! Swamp Thing on screen!! That's [frick]ing great! Can't wait.
Perfect writer? ALAN MOORE! Kidding... i think is gonna be Goyer.

This is good news. I actually hope something will come out of this. It would be good to see DC expand they're universe.
TheAbomination - 1/7/2013, 5:08 PM
Also, what's going on with that Hulk series? Is he still gonna help Marvel make that?
jachong201 - 1/7/2013, 5:10 PM

Kyos - 1/7/2013, 6:40 PM
I believe this movie is getting made after I watched the credits roll. Too good to be true, and I'm not getting my hopes up.
fawfulmark2 - 1/7/2013, 6:53 PM
this...thisis......this is so AWESOME!!!!!!!
Kyos - 1/7/2013, 7:11 PM
Okay, I can't say what I would do if we got a movie like this directed by Del Toro and written by Alan Moore... it might be too much to handle.
KaneVonDoom - 1/7/2013, 7:14 PM
I would absolutely love to see this happen but I won't get my hopes up until cameras roll.
maxxgone - 1/7/2013, 7:50 PM
it will speak volumes about WB & DC's competence, if the justice league isn't a homerun AND if this film actually gets made.

not only does the majority of the world not give a flying F about 98% of these characters, but Marvel has pretty much done most of the difficult work as far as mapping out a proper way to bring superheroes to the big screen.

i dunno. i guess i'd just rather see more effort put towards the big guys before something like this gets greenlit.
redkrypton - 1/7/2013, 7:57 PM
Great idea, if they can at least get the characters right and spell them correctly. ("Specter" is nothing. Spectre is a character I'd like to see translated faithfully onto the big screen.)
Oxbow - 1/7/2013, 8:04 PM
@Nomis-Hell yea. That's what I thought too. These are all characters that Alan Moore has written, several of which are now the definitive versions. Seeing how much GDT loves swamp thing and constantine, I would be thrilled to see him and AM working together on this.

"If you can't beat 'em...join 'em!"
SpideyQuad - 1/7/2013, 8:24 PM
No doubt this is shaping up with the right people. I couldn't be happier to see quality CBM's from DC Warner Bros.

My fingers are crossed, this should be a good ride

Puh-leeeeese let this happen! C'mon WB do the right thing!
WarnerBrother - 1/7/2013, 9:56 PM
This would be the perfect way to distinguish the DC cinematic universe from the Marvel cinematic universe going forward from Justice League.

Marvel has its mutant and cosmic sides that branch off from the mainstream, while DC always had magic based heroes that existed alongside but apart from its mainstream.

I just wonder, since Del Toro is attached to this, who is WB looking at to direct Justice League?

David Yates (Harry Potter) is doing Tarzan (with a spring 2013 start)while Nolan has gone on the record as not being interested in Justice League.

Bryan Singer(Jack the Giant slayer) is going back to Fox and the X-Men while Peter Jackson is stuck in Middle Earth to summer 2014.

A film the size of Justice League will likely be given only to a director the studio has worked with before on a huge effects driven tent pole so that wittles down the list of directors to a handful.

The Wachowski's might get the gig based off their Matrix work but they haven't had a commercial hit since V for Vendetta.

Franchise Lawrence did I AM LEGEND for WB but he is tied up with the Hunger Games series.

Tim Burton is Tim Burton.

My most likely choices would be Guy Richie based off his success with the Sherlock Holmes series (he was also attached to LOBO)And Zack Snyder if Man of Steel is a huge hit.

Anybody got some other names to throw about?
WarnerBrother - 1/7/2013, 9:57 PM
Minor spell check. Her name is Zatanna.
mgeoff88 - 1/7/2013, 11:41 PM
[frick] YEAH! I'm glad this project is moving forward!!!

Woop! Woop! And Zatanna will be in the movie!
AlexDeLarge87 - 1/8/2013, 12:33 AM
Rather see Swamp Thing´s own movie.
casanovagunny - 1/8/2013, 1:13 AM
Not a big fan of WB but with Del Toro, I think it could be done properly.
