Deadline is reporting, Paramount's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will claim the top spot at the North American box office for the second straight week and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy will come in a close second place. Come see how close they are.

According to Deadline, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will finish in first place this holiday weekend, with an estimated $26M. The film is in its second weekend and down 60% from last week. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy keeps chugging along, with $23M. That's good enough for second, though observers believe there is a chance the film could close that gap based on Saturday's figures. Also of note: Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes should cross over the $200M ($201.9M) domestic mark this weekend, despite not finishing in the top ten.

Also my first first!
UnrealLuigi - 8/16/2014, 12:19 AM
Seriously? Why are people still watching this garbage? I thought for sure that one of those three movies opening this weekend would take the top spot

Stallone and company got curb-stomped by Ninja Turtles and GOTG? Good! I'm still waiting for the Step-Up/Expendables crossover.
kevberg - 8/16/2014, 12:28 AM

No Moron.. im sure the fact the film was leaked and pirated for the last two weeks wouldn't have anything to do with it underperforming.

incepshawn - 8/16/2014, 12:34 AM
@kevberg There's also the fact that no one cares about the franchise and that the film isn't very good.
PsychoticSpaceRaccoon - 8/16/2014, 12:36 AM
[frick] TMNT. Shit movie. Seriously.

GotG is so, so good. Wish the sequel would be out in 2016.

But look at my screen name.
NeoBaggins - 8/16/2014, 12:42 AM
TMNT Was a cool movie. The Turtles were great, it was genuinely funny and had a lot of heart. Even Megan was surprisingly good. The only thing I can say bad about it is some of the mid-level CGI. For the sequel, their going to have to step up the CGI. Splinter looked [frick]ing awful.
charlie2094 - 8/16/2014, 12:44 AM

There's 3 million between them with Guardians having been out a week longer...not even close to kicking it's ass, Guardians completely out performed TMNT.

No surprise here really, didn't expect Expendables to take 1, especially not with the film leaking which surely didn't help. Great to see that Guardians is holding well, where TMNT is almost at the same figure despite being it's second week.
IUsedToBeThecase - 8/16/2014, 12:45 AM
My neighbour caught a Raccoon last night, we are thinking of making a barbecue today.
I'm bringing the pizza.
Alien - 8/16/2014, 1:02 AM
Awwwww yeah! Movie could've done Shredder more justice and Splinter looked off, but movie was fun as hell.
KelvTwelve - 8/16/2014, 1:04 AM
I thought Turtles was pretty terrible hollywood trash compared to Guardians.

TMNT took itself not only waay to seriously, but the jokes were kind of lazy and derivative where as the jokes in GOTG felt like they were free to express themselves.

The tone TMNT should've went for is what GOTG had. At the end of the day TMNT is kind of a parody that got lucky, I'm wondering why don't we treat it like so.

The TMNT I wanna watch looks and feels like a Kung-Fu rip off. Not just easily calculate hollywood trash.

By the way, you guys who love TMNT but hate TASM? Yeah, TMNT stole its whole script from TASM 1 and maybe some of 2.
KelvTwelve - 8/16/2014, 1:05 AM
TMNT isn't that bad of a movie I should say, it's just too easy to me.
vinnyhunk - 8/16/2014, 1:07 AM
Turtle power
FaptainMerica - 8/16/2014, 1:07 AM

GOTG had no competition it's first week. It has since repeatedly got beat out by a bad movie. TMNT is competing against GOTG, where as their box office numbers got a head start with fluff competition ... and international markets. Which Ninja Turtles hasn't released in yet. Disney Studios hypebeasts are annoying. GOTG was average at best.
IFeelLikePablo - 8/16/2014, 1:08 AM
Still #1 on Billboard 200 at least.
charlie2094 - 8/16/2014, 1:18 AM

TMNT opened with about $60 million, any movie at all would be hard pressed to beat that on it's second weekend given the average's held incredibly strongly. TMNT being bigger than Guardians in following weeks was inevitable unless it exploded to Avengers like levels.

This is only on about domestic not international so those figures don't matter for this. Guardians is absolutely outperforming Turtles at the domestic
IUsedToBeThecase - 8/16/2014, 1:19 AM
that awkward moment when a crappy movie beats a really good film and you start to wonder, is the crappy movie really good or is the good movie just crap.
YeezusWept - 8/16/2014, 1:29 AM
People who shit all over "overrated" films and rely on box office rankings to feel better about their bad taste in movies.

Wait what holiday is it this weekend?
Superheromoviefan - 8/16/2014, 1:37 AM
Guardians of the Galaxy had good main characters, but the other characters were bad and it had way too much humor. 8/10
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had good turtle character and action, but nothing else. 7/10
Expendables 3 just suck
Luminus - 8/16/2014, 1:38 AM
Turtles sucked. Megan was absolutely horrible as April and the whole damn film was centered around how hot she was. Seriously, that should have been the synopsis: Four mutant turtles and a reporter get the hots for another reporter, while a mech suit tries to kill them.

The only good thing about it was that elevator scene.
Nubase - 8/16/2014, 1:39 AM
Just get over it marvel fans that GOTG is finished now, it got beat by 4 turtles, if marvel was that confident with GOTG why did'nt they release the movie the week after the turtles?, l tell you why its because they were not 100% sure how well the movie would do.

For me the best CBM movie this year was DOFP, the rest was poor poor poor
Snotzo - 8/16/2014, 1:46 AM
Good numbers for GOTG if they hold it will be the highest domestic box office for 2014 and surpass Cap 2's numbers, if it holds. Although I think Hunger Games: Mockingjay will ultimately be the highest grosser this year domestically. Marvel/Disney are very pleased.
charlie2094 - 8/16/2014, 1:51 AM

Given it's set to make around $25 this weekend, GotG is absolutely set to be the highest domestic of the year so far. Definitely think Hunger Games and maybe Hobbit will overtake, but definitely a great result.
BatzFTWfan - 8/16/2014, 1:56 AM
I'm still mad at why these frickin Turtles have released A WEEK LATER from Guardians. They should have chosen June 2014 than August and should have not ruin GOTG's box-office. Grrrr, if it didn't, i guess Guardians would have 3 weekends like Winter Soldier.

F*** YOU BAY! -______- Thanks for ruining GOTG's box-office. If it wasn't for your shitty movie, GOTG would have now more than 450$ million in box-office.
Darkknightman - 8/16/2014, 2:02 AM
What holiday are they referring to?
UltimateHunt - 8/16/2014, 2:13 AM
GOTG Thoe ;0
when the BO numbers are great, critics and general audiences are on your side, and its a fan-favorite blockbuster, all because the movie is actually [frick]ING!! Great, that feeling is soooo good. Quality and $$$, who said it can't go together? ;)
UltimateHunt - 8/16/2014, 2:15 AM
i figure TMNT was going to DROP BIG, its not good at all.
Lets be Cops and GOTG again for me this weekend. (my 3rd time)
Vegeta - 8/16/2014, 2:17 AM
Best movie of the year hands down!
UltimateHunt - 8/16/2014, 2:20 AM
"By the way, you guys who love TMNT but hate TASM? Yeah, TMNT stole its whole script from TASM 1 and maybe some of 2."

lol i noticed that at the end, with the tower collapsing, then rewind to the movie, i was like what a rip off. still fun popcorn flick to enjoy
MisterBabadook - 8/16/2014, 2:28 AM
You guys are blowing GotG WAY out of proportion. I liked it, but if that is your benchmark for 9/10, 10/10, best movie of the summer/year, you've got limited/bad taste.

"The Rover" was the best movie of the year, this far. The true start to oscar season.
Amazing512 - 8/16/2014, 2:30 AM
Guardians of the Galaxy is still kicking TMNT's a** when you count the totals so...
Amazing512 - 8/16/2014, 2:31 AM
@ScabbyJ "The true start to Oscar season" ...I soo want to punch you right now...
Demongod20 - 8/16/2014, 2:43 AM
@ FaptainMerica

How is it kicking its ass. GOTG is on its third week and is nearly tied with TMNT which was on its second week. GOTG opened to over 95 mil and TMNT opened to 65 mil. GOTG is racking in more cash domestically and internationally. GOTG dropped around 50% is second week and TMNT dropped by 60%. The movie isn't performing as well as GOTG and its suppose to be an established franchise with nostalgia attached.
SageMode - 8/16/2014, 2:44 AM
What these haters fail to realize is that despite being knocked out the no.1 spot it's second week, GOTG is still outpacing TMNT even with TMNT being a more well known property and opening in more theaters. And judging from how positively it's being received, it's success is speaking in volumes.

Shows that you're in the minority and have a very ironic "opinion" on taste. Lol.

Marvel really built up their Age of Ultron crowd this year. Numbers should be insane.
