Kevin Eastman Weighs In On NINJA TURTLES

We've already heard from one half of the creative team behind the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and he wasn't best pleased with the casting of Megan Fox. But now Peter Laird's partner gives his take, and he seems a lot more optimistic about the movie..

The upcoming TMNT reboot from Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes has come under a lot of fire from fans of the characters - in fact I think it's safe to say that not one single thing we've heard about the film has been met with a positive response. The latest announcement to get the fans in an uproar was the casting of Megan Fox as April O'Neil, and it didn't seem to sit well with Turtles co-creator Peter Laird either. But Kevin Eastman appears to be taking a different approach, praising the work being done on the project in an interview with CBR. He says they've been looking at movies like Marvel's The Avengers for inspiration, and reckons they are determined to make the movie as faithful to TMNT lore as possible.

"One of the things that's awesome about the relationship I've had with Platinum Dunes and Michael Bay and Jonathan Liebesman and some of the producers, Scott Mednick and Galen Walker on the series, is that It's probably amusing to a lot of people what the press puts out there and what they say people behind the scenes really want to do with the movie, but [Platinum Dunes'] main goal is actually to make the best possible "Turtles" movie with respect to the fans and the core audience as possible. We've learned from movies like "The Avengers," which to me was a superhero movie so good to me personally that I practically wept. It was perfect, you know what I mean? That's the stuff that I grew up on. Joss Whedon just knocked it out of the park, the whole team did, and that includes choreographing all the interlocking movies. From everything that I've seen in the ["TMNT"] script and the development and everything they've asked my input on specifically, it's gonna be an awesome, familiar, solid "Turtles" movie. It'll have everything that fans are gonna want and then some."

Awesome! See? Try to focus on the positives folks, and not the fact that it's being directed by Jonathan Liebesman, produced by Michael Bay and will star Megan Fox..oh and that the Turtles will probably be aliens or something. For the full interview click on the link below.

bubs - 3/14/2013, 12:27 PM
[frick] this and [frick] Bay.... Eastman is collecting a check to say this crap...I usually reserve judgement until i see the trailer but im biased when it comes to tmnt. The only time ill have fanboy rage when it comes to Batman , Mortal Kombat, and TMNT!!! Bay lost all favor with me with those racist, ghetto autobots in transformers 2. I trust Laird more than eastman when it comes to this cause he actually cares about his creation and what fans of this franchise actually hope to see.
LP4 - 3/14/2013, 12:41 PM
As long as Krang is IN. I'm in
jessepostal - 3/14/2013, 12:46 PM

RorMachine - 3/14/2013, 12:46 PM
I'm gonna give the film a chance, but there's nothing wrong with saying you're not happy with what you know about it so far - ie it's being directed by a hack, produced by an even bigger hack, and starring Megan bleedin Fox as as ace reporter!
jerryblake - 3/14/2013, 12:46 PM
i wait for the trailer, it just to early to be hatin.

Besides, Neeson doesn't like haters.
Hating can get you in trouble, nowadays.

"One of the things that's awesome about the relationship I've had with Platinum Dunes and Michael Bay and Jonathan Liebesman and some of the producers"...

Is that they give him tons of money.

The movie has ultra fail written all over it. If you like it fine, but don't get nasty with others cause they're not gobbling this crap up.

sinthegreat - 3/14/2013, 12:53 PM

Bay almost went through with that complete slap in the face of a script from before, I don't trust him or the studio to deliver the best turtles movie.
Natetrix79 - 3/14/2013, 12:57 PM
Thank You @Rob2814!!!!!! This could be a really good action flick for kids, my parents sure as hell didn't like The Turtles when I was a kid but they knew I loved them. As much as I hate it they are making this film for little boys that are little right now & what do those boys like......Ben 10! And really guys what Oscar-winning actress is gonna play April??? The smoking hot chick from the first movie is still stuck doing Tv Commercials, wait until the damn thing comes out before y'all flip out cause if its any good then everybody's gonna be like "I told you it was gonna be good..."
Tony93 - 3/14/2013, 12:58 PM
what comic arc is your spiderman avatar from?
JohnnyKrypton - 3/14/2013, 12:58 PM
(as faithful to TMNT lore as possible)
(alien turtles)
(quoted from a man who's getting paid by Bay)

Rob2814, "You people are pathetic. Your giving a movie shit, and we haven't even seen any set photos yet. I think that's a new low for the CBM community."

I don't think it's a new low, seems to be a pretty consistent thing for fanboys ha!

I'm still going to check this out regardless. I still wish they continued the animated movie.

Will just have to wait and see but from what I read from past articles, it doesn't look like it will be good.

where is the picture ?
CaptainObvious - 3/14/2013, 1:19 PM
This movie sounds like a brothel that every hack in Hollywood comes to.
Optimus83 - 3/14/2013, 1:23 PM
I want Ninja Turtles Images. ...¡¡¡NOW!!!
TheBeard - 3/14/2013, 1:23 PM
@Rob2814 The turtles arn't mutated in the upcoming Bay movie, they are from a alien planet. There is no ooze from krangs world that makes them. So no, not true too the source material.
DaneE5R - 3/14/2013, 1:34 PM
That script wasn't fake.

Kevin Eastman, as much as I will always love and respect the man, has pretty much said this same stuff about and supported every crappy version of the Turtles. Maybe he's getting paid, maybe he's just an optimist, who knows; either way, Peter Laird is the one who gives it to us straight and keeps it real.
TheBlackPhantom994 - 3/14/2013, 1:36 PM
Liam Neeson for Splinter
RaleighAntrobus - 3/14/2013, 1:36 PM
Shut up, Ror. How many times do we hear/read the same comments from property creators only for the final product to be a disaster. So many overly excited fanboys on this site get giddy over garbage. It's Ninja Turtles for crying out loud; I was a fan when I was a kid but it's time to move on a little...
AlexDeLarge87 - 3/14/2013, 1:39 PM
I try to stay open minded (cause you know not seen any footage yet) but so far everything i´ve heard from this film doesnt make me very happy.

I like the sound of epic film ala The Avengers where the Turtles fight against evil Utrom General Krang and his army but kinda would like to see them start slowly with the film and focusing on Turtles fight against Shredder, Baxter Stockman and Foot Clan and discovering their origin.

I would put these guys in the first film as villains.
Shredder, Stockman, Foot Clan and mutants created by Stockman with Ooze (Bloodsucker or Slash or Rocksteady and Bebop), Krang cameo.
jerryblake - 3/14/2013, 1:41 PM

Dude, you just made my day. lol.
Michel Bay, go for it !!!
Highflyer - 3/14/2013, 1:42 PM
@rob2814, i doubt it was fake.
alekesam - 3/14/2013, 1:52 PM
Y'know, it is possible to get the core essence of a character (which to me is the most important thing) without getting every single detail exactly as it was in the 80s cartoon or the comic that inspired it all for that matter.

Like I'd be far more pissed if their personalities were irredeemably effed with than them not being walking talking turtles due to the mutagen. Give me hot-headed Raph, cool head Leo, party Mike and tech wiz 'Tello and everyone else can kiss my rear end.

I swear, for a buncha' adults, some of y'all act like the biggest kids.

NovaCorpsFan - 3/14/2013, 2:13 PM
... I'm gonna see this just so I can piss in the theatre... It's okay my buddy works there. [frick] you and all your 'splosions Bay!
NBAfanaddict - 3/14/2013, 2:21 PM
I'm sorry. Anytime I see the words "Michael Bay" "Meagan Fox", and their attached to a major 80's franchise, I start to cry a little inside....

Eh, maybe Fox's character was just written bad in Transformers, and Bay's learned from his mistakes in Transformers.....i'm still just very, very afraid....
DioFoRio - 3/14/2013, 2:27 PM
PREACH! @Jessie
Pokeysteve - 3/14/2013, 2:30 PM
Totally cool with the complete buthering of his characters origins but is throwing a hissy over Fox lol wow.
DaneE5R - 3/14/2013, 2:31 PM
I find it genuinely hilarious when people posting on a comic book movie site say things like "c'mon, it's Ninja Turtles! Time to move on a little..."

The definition of irony.
