TMNT Co-Creator Kevin Eastman Is Optimistic About New Movie; Has Cameo

Not that one of those things is necessarily related to the other of course! Although Peter Laird had a few issues with the direction this reboot is taking when he spoke to CBM a while back, the other half of the TMNT co-creator team seems much more positive..

Although casual fans seem to think the Michael Bay produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles flick looks like it might be decent, the same can't be said for the hardcore shell-heads. Of course we only have a brief teaser trailer to go by, but the changes made to TMNT canon -- not to mention the look of the Turtles themselves -- have rubbed many up the wrong way. One man who is optimistic about the new movie, however, is one of the creators of the Turtles himself. While talking to CBR about the upcoming TMNT annual, Kevin Eastman explained why he feels this reboot will make fans "incredibly happy".

"It's been a four, almost five-year journey to bring the next "Turtles" movie to life since the time we pitched it. I know everybody is like, "Oh, Michael Bay, Michael Bay, Michael Bay, he's gonna ruin it! He's gonna destroy it!" But everyone I have encountered has been nothing more than incredibly sincere to try and bring the Turtles back in a way that's new, fresh and exciting, but with total respect to everything that's come before. I've read the script. I have a cameo in the move. It's awesome -- really fun. What they've done with the film is going to make fans incredibly happy, including myself. The vision is awesome, the effects are incredible and the story will be something everybody can relate to and like. I'll leave it out there for the fans to let us know what they like in the end, but I'm very proud to be part of it. A lot of people are going to be surprised."

Sold? Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is directed by Jonathan Liebesman. It stars Megan Fox, Pete Ploszek, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, Alan Ritchson, Danny Woodburn, William Fichtner, Will Arnett, Whoopi Goldberg and opens August 8. For the full interview click the link below.

Can't wait.. The ones who trash this movie probably doesn't like the fact it comes out a week after guardians.. Smh
Kyos - 4/25/2014, 3:44 AM
I'll watch this at some point for sure. So far I don't think it'll be on the big screen, though.
DukeAcureds - 4/25/2014, 3:57 AM
You know, I thought he was completely full of bullshit until I saw the trailer. The trailer really swayed me.
I agree with Peter Laird's sentiments, but Eastman has the inside track on this. I'm cautiously optimistic, myself.
My only real beef with this movie, now, is Eric Sachs. But if he turns out to be an Utrom, then I will be very, very happy.
DukeAcureds - 4/25/2014, 4:07 AM
FYI for those calling Eastman a sell-out, I doubt he got very much for his involvement in this. He'll probably get whatever Bob Kane got on Batman, as project consultant.
He doesn't own TMNT, they don't need to pay him anything. He's on the level.
He sold his half to Laird. That's not really selling out.
Laird sold TMNT lock, stock and barrel to Viacom. A megacorp. That is kinda selling out. But I'm sure he had his reasons.
Shame though, because he left a lot of plot threads hanging in vol. 4.
DJRock93 - 4/25/2014, 4:13 AM
Movie* I don't know how he would have a cameo in the move lol
loki668 - 4/25/2014, 4:15 AM
@Everyone who took my $$ joke seriously:

Can't a guy (named Loki, no less) make a JOKE??!? It was such an easy set up, that I couldn't resist. I thought everyone would suss it out as obvious joke is obvious. I even did it with the cartoon theme song in mind!! I did it because I HATE the cartoon (preferred the original comic story). Some of you, in here, have said FAR MORE insulting things about other projects on other threads. I have to leave now and hold a telethon to try and get you guys a sense of humor.
loki668 - 4/25/2014, 4:17 AM
The "Cowabingo" comment, admittedly, was over the line. I'm a bastard:)
Ceejay - 4/25/2014, 4:20 AM
@DukeAcureds - Exactly, these guys don't know shit about this franchise if they're gonna call him a sell-out. The entire idea they have about the TMNT from their youth on TV with the cartoon and the previous live-action movies IS THE REAL SELL-OUT VERSION!! Eastman and Laird sold out the original comic version of the vicious and lethal turtles so that Viacom could "Disney-fy" it for a younger age group with all that cowabunga dude shit and going over the top with the Pizza and Party Dude crap as well as the colour-coded masks so the little kiddies could tell them apart.

Everyone who likes that version bought into the original "Sell-out" and needs to shut up about this new version because they enjoyed a long time with their sell out cheesy TMNT and now its time for a new generation to have their own.
ThrotTheUnclean - 4/25/2014, 4:21 AM
.... i'll take his word for it I guess.

loki668@ Didn't mean you personally, just a general FYI. Stay funky, trickster.
Having said that, right on, CeeJay@.

loki668 - 4/25/2014, 4:38 AM

I know. I realized that someone had commented above me. I just figured that I was committed, at that point (I hate deleting comments). Besides, it seemed more fun to contine;)
Tromills - 4/25/2014, 4:46 AM
as a fan of the original, i have no real problem with this remake, i am glad to see the turtle back on the big screen, Fox is some great eye candy, and the CGI looks amazing, but i have 1 concern, just 1, and it is so small, that people will hate me for it.

I love the original design, so i fear that i will be siting in the cinema and the only thing i will look at the whole time is the noses.

Small matter i know, but i fear that i will constantly focus on those noses, constantly saying to myself that it does not llok right and that i hate it, that it will take me out of the experience of the movie.

I hope they proof me wrong, but i have seen the trailer a few times, and those noses keep taking me out of enjoying it, it naggs me, almost like The Mole annoyed Austin Powers. he could only focus on the "mole"on The Moles face, and nothing else.

I am looking foward to the movie, but i hope that the noses wont take me out of the experience
Zuriel - 4/25/2014, 4:50 AM
A lot of people are wondering how those things get in and out of the sewer with those massive shells. Not through any manhole I have seen. Again, if you are going to redesign characters for a "new generation" fine, but if it gets so far from the original idea why not stop being Hollywood hacks and make something new.
Carl - 4/25/2014, 5:06 AM
for once people can agree with ceejay
RedRocBoy - 4/25/2014, 5:13 AM
@Ceejay Finally somebody who gets it. So damn tired of these so called die hard TMNT fans shitting on the tis movie without even seeing it in it's entirety.
Carl - 4/25/2014, 6:20 AM
its a kids movie by nikalodeon. made by jonathan leibsman (he sucks) and produced by michael bay who also sucks. expect it to be a 2 hour cartoon, the turtles probably wont drink, kill with their weapons or be ordering the shredder to commit seppuku any time soon.
Buggy89 - 4/25/2014, 6:24 AM
all of you guys are so ungrateful and sadly expect too much from a childrens franchise. Its like shouting at power rangers, knock it off. And also, saying eastman took money in order to say the film is going to be good is an insult on eastman... you guys have no respect.

Lets look at the facts, Megan fox is the worst thing in this film and Michael Bay was in china more then half the time TMNT was in production. Why are crucifying an entire cast and crew because one ass holes name is attached? you all need to grow up and move on, if you don't like the way the movie looks then ignore it and enjoy the tuns of thousands of TMNT media content that already exists.

You guys just like to complain, you could get the best adaptation in the world, the most respectful one ever and still find something to nitpick over. I'm done with this site and all the arrogance.

No body likes change but theres no need to act like complete bafoons over it.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 4/25/2014, 6:26 AM
I'm a turtle fan and even I know there has been multiple different versions of the turtles throughout the decades. I'll be seeing this even though shredder has been changed.
Carl - 4/25/2014, 6:28 AM
it started off as an adult franchise
Carl - 4/25/2014, 6:32 AM
look at what jonathan liebsman has done in the past.
he doesnt have one good film out.

2000 Genesis and Catastrophe Short film
2003 Darkness Falls
2005 Rings Short film
2006 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning
2009 The Killing Room
2011 Battle: Los Angeles <---,
2012 Wrath of the Titans <--- LOL
2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
TheRealRemyLebeau - 4/25/2014, 6:34 AM
The first turtle film has a place in my heart though.

Oh and stop jumping on Michael Bays back. He is a producer and a action genius director. These turtle films are nothing besides fun films. The original comic was different. Enjoy. ;)
TheRealRemyLebeau - 4/25/2014, 6:37 AM
@Carl when did the turtles start out as an adult franchise? The turtles hit mainstream with toys that coincided with the cartoon??? *shrugs*
Carl - 4/25/2014, 6:38 AM
I wish I could wipe my butt with 150 million like liebsman did with wrath of the titans lol
Carl - 4/25/2014, 6:43 AM
look it up, they killed, all wore red bandanas drank beer instead of eating pizza all the time and ordered the shredder(a minor villain who died in the incident) to commit seppuku (ritualisticly disembowl himself to regain his honour)
