Grant Gustin & John Wesley Shipp Spotted On The Set of THE FLASH

The Flash series officially began production this past Sunday. The two flashes were spotted on the set in Vancouver earlier this week, both sporting red clothing. What do you guys think?

Granted, Grant is not in costume but the choice of clothing on John Wesely Shipp is interesting. It could be just speculation, but the red hoodie could reveal that his character, is in fact, Jay Garrick.

The Flash is an upcoming American television series developed by writer/producers Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Geoff Johns, to air on The CW. It will be based on the DC Comics character Flash (Barry Allen), a costumed crime-fighter who was created by Robert Kanigher, John Broome and Carmine Infantino. It is intended to be a spin-off to Arrow, existing in the same universe. A pilot, to be written by Berlanti, Kreisberg and Johns, and directed by David Nutter, has been greenlit.

That is some pure awesomeness rite there.

Shipp should be Jay for sure. He looks the part now.

This show looks great but I still think Gustin looks too young.
ManofSteel23 - 3/6/2014, 4:42 PM

redlion - 3/6/2014, 4:50 PM
Looking forward to my favorite DC character on the small screen. Man, I used to love the old Flash series and I hated it when they cancelled it.

Grant Gustin just doesn't do it for me.
Knightrider - 3/6/2014, 5:00 PM
Jay Garrick or he is Earth 2 Flash, which would connect the original TV Series.

thewonderer - 3/6/2014, 5:11 PM
Grant Gustin IS Barry Allen/Flash

[frick] yes, this show will own.
Nomis - 3/6/2014, 5:16 PM

Old school and New School!

Jay Garrick and Barry Allen!
typicalfanboy - 3/6/2014, 5:25 PM
he's gotta be barry's dad.
typicalfanboy - 3/6/2014, 5:27 PM
or a twist could be that he was an actor that portrayed "jay garrick" on a flash tv show, based on the comic, which inspires barry to create the costume and take his moniker. it plays better than an alternate universe or that he's a comic book character that barry read as a kid(just like the comic)
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 3/6/2014, 5:29 PM
I could totally see them doing that
MrDonut - 3/6/2014, 5:29 PM
Wish both Gustin and Amell were 'blonder' but that's just my fanboy-OCD, either way am stoked- liked him in the role and hope this owns.
MileyAbominationClone - 3/6/2014, 5:38 PM
Looks like another awesome DC show. Sexy!
BubSnikt - 3/6/2014, 5:44 PM
Gustin looks great

@MrDonut - Isnt it weird how they can never cast a blonde superhero? We have Chris Evans as Cap and Human Torch, Michael B. Jordan as the Torch, Stephen Amell as Green Arrow, Caity Lotz as Black Canary, Gustin as Flash, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Kate Mara as Invinsible Woman, even Renner as Hawkeye. They're all traditionally blonde characters played by actors with darker hair. Just pointing that out...

Please some me a live-action picture where the comic book ones work???

Every single well-meaning design I've seen looks silly, because those ears don't translate as well once a sense of depth is added to them.

The only other plausible alternative I can think of, is to have them the cb design there like this show's version (in place of the lightning), and not sticking out like in the comics. But at that point it wouldn't be like the comics also, so you're back to square one.

Here's another example:

Here's what we got:

...I prefer what we got.
DeathstrokeTerminator - 3/6/2014, 6:16 PM
I like what they went with, but they definitely could have gone the winged route, it's no less ridiculous than Batman having actual Horns on his cowl
soforizo - 3/6/2014, 6:42 PM

And perhaps they tried it, and didn't like how it looked. The Batman design is a much easier venture imo.
DCeddie - 3/6/2014, 6:43 PM
I'm with ya Mr. Donut, wish they were blonder...
Himura - 3/6/2014, 7:35 PM
You guys want to see a cowl?
THIS is a cowl

soforizo - 3/6/2014, 7:59 PM

We'll have to agree to disagree. I didn't think the ears from old Flash costume where good. I certainly loved the show and the heart behind it, but I found it admittedly corny.

I'm not against the producers trying to recreate, but seeing how the present outcome is a slight deviation, I take by that it possibly didn't look as good as what we got.
soforizo - 3/6/2014, 8:03 PM

It's better than the last one I put, but I just find them odd. It reminds me somewhat to Hawkman (even though it's obviously different). I know it irks some fans, but I'm the type who doesn't mind minor alterations.

It will be great to see Barry and Jay team up. Being completely honest though I am not really a fan of Grant. He's also younger then I would want playing Barry. I always think of him being in his mid 30s or even early 40s and Wally in his 20s. Which is around the same age Grant is. Which leads me wanting some one older for the big screen version. My personal pick has been John Krasinski for Barry. So I really hope that the big screen and small screen versions are in their own separate universes. This way the fans can get a flash movie too. Because I doubt WB will give Grant his own movie and tv show. That all being said I can't wait to see what they do with this show.
loki668 - 3/7/2014, 1:06 AM
I hope that he's playing Jay Garrick. Beyond that, I'm waiting to see the actual suit before I say anything else about it (unlike some of the more fashion-forward complaining that's happening). In recognition of those who can't wait to bitch about something, I've created a quote just for those people who can not enjoy anything. It's a Loki original.

"The quickest way to get a 'hardcore comic fan' to complain is to give him/her what he/she wants."
Klone - 3/7/2014, 3:03 AM
Barry Parker. Lol I joke. Still not having Jay would be as stupid as [frick] so including him is something I'm happy with.
HecticHector - 3/7/2014, 4:40 AM
Awesome! Cannot wait!
loki668 - 3/7/2014, 4:50 AM

It's not "being a pussy" who's "going with the flow" just because someone is unwilling to light their own ass on fire and scream "OUTRAGE!!!" at a promo pic. I was even, initially, concerned that he might be wearing a jacket but it wouldn't upset me to THIS degree if he was. I understand that you want a certain design for the ear pieces (we ALL know it) but is it really THIS important? I want them to do a good job with the show and, if in the process, the costume doesn't look exactly how Sciver draws it then, that's survivable.
IronRuhail - 3/7/2014, 4:53 AM
Cool can't wait for my favourite superhero's tv show, come on September get here quicker!
IronRuhail - 3/7/2014, 4:54 AM
Also it was good to get JWS for this show hopefully he doesn't just play Barry's father and he is actually Jay Garrick who is near/retired.
JoJo1982 - 3/7/2014, 8:02 AM
Why Wesley looks completely different now

Last time I saw him was....... The flash show

Can't believe this Show is happening!!! Again
JediPhilosopher - 3/7/2014, 8:06 AM
Yep, the earpieces were changed for no good reason. Dark dark dark red and the older Flash, who wore dark red. Another "improvement"
JediPhilosopher - 3/7/2014, 8:13 AM
Somebody said he doesn't like the old look of the earpiece because it looks "corny". Lightning earpiece, less corny?
