UPDATED: The Flash Movie Hobbled Yet Again?

News report that Charles Roven, producer of The Dark Knight, and his attachment to the as-of-now undeveloped movie, The Flash, is on the ropes.

Producer Charles Roven said:

"I was involved at one point with The Flash. And Warner Bros. came to me and said, 'The work that you've been doing hasn't yet resulted in something that any of us, including the filmmaking team, feel could be greenlit as a movie. We're trying to accomplish something that takes into account the entire, rich DC character world, and we'd like to pull it back. That doesn't mean that you aren't going to be a part of it. We just want to take a different kind of approach. Do you mind if we try that?' If we had something that was really working…

"Like, for example, they had something that was more or less working for them on Green Lantern, and now you have Martin Campbell directing it…But we didn't. The David Goyer screenplay, that didn't work. Goyer left the project. We then embarked with David Dobkin, trying to come up with another approach. We hadn't even hired a writer at that point. So for us, we completely understood. I've been making movies with Warner Bros. for 15 years, so that was fine, but I hope one day there's a way for me to get re-involved in the project. "

This doesn't mean the movie is done for good, only that Roven's involvement is uncertain.

InTylerWeTurst82: I hope this movie gets made, it could be awesome. Also, Scott Porter for Barry and Chris Evans for Wally, I had to say it.

UPDATE:The film's current screenwriter Dan Mazeau has contacted IGN today, and gave an update on the current status of the film.

"Just to chime in on your latest article: The Flash has not been hobbled. Everything is moving forward as planned," Mazeau explained. "I'm still writing the script. Geoff Johns is still consulting. Flash fans have no cause for concern, and -- IMO -- lots to be excited about."

So, it appears that this news of Charles Roven's involvement being on the ropes hasn't had much of an effect on the film's development, according to Mazeau. This is a good sign for CBM fans who were worried about the film's development.

I really want Flash and WW to get made. Flash is a great character, and could make for some truly unique and awesome special effects/action.

WW could be a fantasy epic, set in an Ancient Greece-like world, with WW fighting monsters and what not. It would be like Clash of the Titans meets 300, a recipe for success if you ask me :)

Thor is going to be awesome. It's got the epic feel that GL has, but it's rooted in old mythology and not in the science fiction realm that GL is.

Yep, the Cap offices officially open this month, with Johnston coming on full time since he's finished Wolfman. I'd expect casting announcements late this month at earliest, and December the latest.

Just because Roven is not doing the Flash doesn't mean it's not being done! They inferred that they are working on it just going in another direction!

I really loved the Flash on TV! John Wesley Shipp was great! BTW, they originally wanted Jack Coleman from Heroes to play the part but he chose Broadway over TV! Now more than 10 years later Jack's back on TV!

That's kind of old news. Since the previous approach fell through, Geoff Johns has written a new script, or at least a treatment, for the movie, which is currently still going nowhere.

I want to see a Wonder Woman and Flash movie already! lol I'm really looking forward to the Green Lantern film though! :) I actually think a Booster Gold movie would be cool but I can understand if they didn't make one (I know that he's not that popular of a character). lol I would LOVE to see DC make a film based on The Demon. Bizarro Superman also sounds promising. I just wish DC/Warner Brothers would get on the ball more and make these films. lol

I agree that GL will be a major factor into DC's future films. If it makes good money, I'd expect a lot more CBM's about lesser known characters to follow, such as Flash, Green Arrow, etc.

I think it'll make a lot of money actually. If Iron Man can do, well, you know, then I think an epic space opera can do good as well.

I hope this doesn't hinder the progression of the flick. Ever since I saw live-action Flash in the tv series, I've been dying to see a full-length feature Flash movie. DC's got some serious catching up to do. Can't wait for the GL movie. Glad there's finally a release date. You know, all it took to get Marvel in gear, and to form their OWN STUDIO no less, was the success of Spider-man. But perhaps DC's problems are the unfortunate result of being owned by a giant corporation. I've been trying to figure out where the possible bottle-neck could be with Warner's, and I think it's got to be one of three guys. Paul Levitz is the head to the DC subsidiary, so I seriously doubt he'd be opposed to any decent film projects using their characters, although he will soon be leaving that position after thirty-five years. After that, It's Paul Robinov, President in charge of the pictures group, Alan Horn, President and COO, and Barry Meyer, Chairman and CEO. My money's on Robinov, because he's the guy that was behind this recent "call back" on Flash and Wonder Woman. In essence, Robinov is the most recent reason for the slow development of these properties, because since his contract was re-upped, he wants to be very hands on and make sure things are done correctly. The only thing about Porter as Barry is that i'm not sure how he would do with Reynolds. You need to find an actor that works really well with him and can stand toe to toe with him in a JL movie. That friendship is really important. Plus i think we need someone a little bit older looking.

Groundrunner, I would agree with you. But my first priority in having confidence in a character is his ability to act. Its easier to age someone to look older, than it is to make an older actor look younger. Unless you get some Twilight zygote for the role, like they almost did in Miller's JLA. Second comes looks. Hair can be bleached blond. And then build. Muscles can be increased, but if he's a natural runt, it would look really goofy. (IMO)

wolfmanremington @ I think a Demon movie would be great. I have always been more a DC fan then Marvel. But I think Demon or even The Spectre could both be made into TV shows that would be great.
