New Scripter Writing The Flash Movie

IESB is saying that screenwriter Dan Mazeau is currently working on a Flash script for Warner Brothers...
You may remember an earlier report we did in January that Warner Brothers was putting all DC Comics movies on hold. While supposedly that is still the case, IESB still says that that they are certain that their report is absolutely true, and Mazeau is writing a script.

Producer Charles Roven wouldn't confirm or deny the news, but did say this: "The Flash that was the policeman and Kid Flash, Wally, and his uncle. Those are the two Flashes that I grew up with, so I was excited to have the opportunity to try and see if I could actually translate those characters to the screen."

This is welcome news to comic book movie fans. The Flash is a beloved character and most CBMers have the scarlet speedster in their "top 3 comic book movies that NEED to be made" list.

This is indeed amazing news!!! Can't wait to see ol' Barry again and have Wally running around him. Kinda sucks for my plot about JLA though. That means they'll try to get elastic man in there for comic relief which would suck grandma balls... you heard me! So in Barry's case, Matthew Fox would be the best cast pick for the role.
Shaman - 1/30/2009, 12:40 PM
I cant wait for them to make this movie cause i love the flash. and shaman nice job with the dane cook thing but yeah ryan reynolds would have been pretty good.
HUSoldier - 1/30/2009, 1:06 PM
Totally :)
Shaman - 1/30/2009, 1:10 PM
Yeah i cant stand dane cook but i have to say thats a good choice of cast. i dont really care who does itn though i just want whoever makes this movie to actually care about the franchise. some people just arent cut out for these movies and im tired of watching my favorite comics get destroyed by bad acting, careless directing or ANYTHING that makes me feel the way i did after spiderman 3... im still recovering from that one.

thats all i have to say about that
Torque - 1/30/2009, 1:31 PM
Finally those bent dicks are getting on the ball with a Flash movie. It's about damn time too and they best not side line this project again in light of the same two heroes (we all know who).

Shaman - Dane Cook?! seriously? That's got flop all over it, sorry man. Wally West needs the balance of womanizer, comedy and the acting chops to pull out the burdened hero underneath it all. Dane Cook doesn't have that range. His peak is goofy romantic comedy when he's at his best and that's not all that impressive for what the role calls for with Wally West.
Mathew Fox as Barry Allen isn't too bad of a pick though.

If they are doing a West story;

Wally West - Ryan Gosling (Because the other Ryan is already Deadpool and Hannibal King). Ryan Gosling, would be a good fit as a number 2 since he has shown he can give a good performance in layering emotions on top of one another. He's done the woman chasing thing and sarcastic party kid before and has also done the burdened individual with a strong front as well. He has the range is what I'm saying.

If they are doing a Allen story with a younger West;

Barry Allen - Luke Goss. Why? He kicks ass. You saw "Blade 2" and "Hellboy 2".

Young Wally West as Kid Flash - Michael Angarano (The main character Jason in "The Forbidden Kingdom" with Jackie Chan and Jet Li) I was entertained by this no-namer in that movie and I think he cold pull off a younger Wally West. Hell, he could probably do Impulse.

...As the bad guy I'd get Captain Cold played by Gilbert Gottfried :)

WeaponX - 1/30/2009, 1:36 PM
Dane cook ..... puhleeeezzz, my girlfriends strap-on could deliver a better performance than that chode!
Actually, i hope someone puts Dane in a movie with Gilbert Gottfried so we can watch his career flush away. I think i am gonna go watch th old flash tv series. This is good news. I want some real heavy hitting Comic roles for woman and i want them Rated RRRRRRRRRR
shibazz - 1/30/2009, 1:46 PM
I must say I completely agree with Shaman on this one. The MINUTE they said that Reynolds was going to be in X-Men Origins, all I could think was "Now he can't be The Flash!" I could have sworn that was a natural cast for anyone creating this flick.

Up until now, I couldn't get re-excited about this movie. But, Dane Cook is the perfect replacement. He is ABSOLUTELY clever and charms everything near him. He definitely has a speedster physique. And, just because he hasn't done much else besides slap-stick and romance comedy, doesn't mean he can't. Was Heath Ledger The Joker before he played it? Was Downey Iron Man? For that matter, was Keaton Batman? If Cook were cast, I'd bet he'd surprise a lot of people.
chrisblaze54 - 1/30/2009, 1:48 PM
Yo Shaman what about Dane Cook as the Flash & Matthew Fox as Professor Zoom ??

CRUSH - 1/30/2009, 1:53 PM
Should I get working on the fanfic or what?
Joker1Zero - 1/30/2009, 2:05 PM
I hate you guys... If Dane cook gets this role or even goes to the premiere i will never forgive you. Gawd! dane cook?
shibazz - 1/30/2009, 2:12 PM
Very good point Torque! The appointed actor really does have to give a damn about his character!

Weapon X- Stop looking at his "stand up" comedy and go rent "Mr. Brooks" and "Dan in Real Life" to see what kind of range Cook does ACTUALLY have. He's done better more serious roles than what Reynolds ever did. I like Reynolds too but Cook has more range as an actor than Reynolds.

Luke Goss is one of my favorite actors but he's a bit too dramatic for Barry. He'd make a kick ass Azrael though.

Shibazz- Calm your hormones down, you got kids comin in here. If you want porn, the web is full of it. You obviously got a tention issue to release.

Thanks chrisblaze54, glad we're in the same realm here! And crush, i don't see Fox as Zoom but Luke Goss, now there's a Zoom!!!

Why not Joker1Zero.
Shaman - 1/30/2009, 2:26 PM
No to Dane Cook. His 15 mins are up. I'd rather see Michael Rosenbaum play the flash. I agree, in that it should go to someone who cares about the role, but it also needs to be a good movie. That is something that Dane Cook has never done. He may have been in some good movies (his cameo in Waiting was pretty good) but he can't carry a movie (see the endless box office flop of Dane Cook vehicles as a reference). Lastly, to mention Dane Cook in the same sentence as Heath Ledger, Robert Downey, and Michale Keaton is insulting to those actors. He couldn't make them coffee.
BillyBlack - 1/30/2009, 3:43 PM
Flash AHHHH Saviour of the universe! Whoops wrong Flash

Superman4 - 1/30/2009, 3:51 PM
unless i get a trailer or a carved in stone release date i wont hold my breath.
grif - 1/30/2009, 4:31 PM
I thought DC put all their potential films on hiatus.
SoulAllFlush - 1/30/2009, 4:53 PM
I'm with grif on this one, although cool to have a Flash movie, I won't get excited unless I see some tangible evidence.

loganoneil - 1/30/2009, 5:21 PM
i hate dane cook but hes got the humorous thing goin down and they share similar traits

shmoo551 - 1/30/2009, 6:12 PM
About time, I like Dane Cook and I think he is funny but i can't see him do'in a good Flash, I agree with Weapon X about Reynolds and Gosling.
shadowboxer - 1/30/2009, 6:25 PM
No Dane Cook for Flash...he is box office poison and I want to see this turn into a viable franchise spawning lots more great films...Barry Allen is THE Flash to me like Hal Jordan is THE Green Lantern...Let's see some great DC movies from WB..
greenknight333 - 1/30/2009, 6:39 PM
man i cant wait to this movie. i hope its wally west and a good storyline and a good actor that plays him.
LethalWeapon - 1/30/2009, 8:14 PM
Matthew Fox wasa born in 1966...are kidding me...hes how old?

Ryan Reynolds = Perfect Flash.
I think he even mentioned he would love to play the part...I read something about him on comicbookmovie.com
Aiiwolf - 1/30/2009, 10:35 PM
ps: Ryan Gosling would be an awesome Green lantern Hal Jordan.
Aiiwolf - 1/30/2009, 10:35 PM
What would they do first, The Flash or JLA ??
CRUSH - 1/31/2009, 1:54 AM
Oh crap! This is my favorite character. I am scared to death it will get Singer, Shumacher treatment and look like FF4 or Daredevil when complete!
Phinehas - 1/31/2009, 2:48 AM
Shaman - I was basing it more so on his movies like "Employee Of The Month" or "Good Luck Chuck" than his stand-up and speaking of "Good Luck Chuck" his role in "Dan In Real Life" was just a subdued variation of the role he played in "Good Luck Chuck". Sorry dude, Dane just doesn't have the range, I haven't seen it.

Like I mentioned, Reynolds has sort of "Marveled" himself out of The Flash. But I will say he can do comedy and as his performance in "The Amityville Horror" showed he can play serious, especially when his character George Lutz in Amityville is a complete 180 of his role as Monty in "Waiting..." and those films were released months apart so you could easily see that the range is there. However, if Reynolds does get the role of Flash (Wally West), I won't be apposed of it, I'll just have to settle into it the way I did with Christian Bale as Batman/Bruce Wayne. It took me a while to get used to not thinking 'Patrick Bateman is driving a Batmobile'. Is Cook a better actor then Reynolds? Not in my opinion.

...But that's my two cents.
WeaponX - 1/31/2009, 12:08 PM
Hurry up and do it before i choke on too many marvel films.
Scottymagic - 1/31/2009, 1:25 PM
Dane cook is either love him or hate him..i dont hate him! And i have seen him deliver a couple of good dramatic performances. Im not a huge Flash fan but id still love to see a well made movie
Rorschach01 - 1/31/2009, 1:48 PM
No dane cook! they can get a better actor.
DC needs to hurry up and start making these movies, of course warner bros. needs to give them money to do it. Warner ros. owns the dc characters.
Metalhead82 - 1/31/2009, 3:08 PM
Can't wait, but I won't hold my breath. I wonder which way they would go with this. I mean will they do the typical origin story, like nearly every other super hero movie. Or will the do a retrospective origin lke the Incredible Hulk. Or would they give present him as an already established hero, with his own Rouges gallery.
Speaking of Rouges gallery what villians would it be, Professor Zoom, Grodd, Zoom, Magenta, or some of the Rouges themselves
(original team- Captain Cold, Mirror Master, Heat Wave, Weather Wizard, the Trickster, Pied Piper, the Top, and Captain Boomerang).

Flash is probably one of Dc's best characters so he needs an actor who is passionate about the role
so think about this

Michael Rosenbaum for the Flash- He likes the role and is familiar with it. He can do comedy and serious roles, I mean he is probably the definitive Lex Luthor in Smallville, so he can play it, think about his voice in Justice League. He even has the build to play the role.

And as sad as it is i could actally see Gilbert Gottfreid as a rouge.

Oh and Shaman I agree Luke Goss would make a kick ass Azrael.

THEHAWK - 1/31/2009, 7:45 PM
I am about to udder words that I never thought would come out of my mouth. I think Dane Cook would be a pretty good Flash. Ryan Reynolds would've been perfect but I think he is going to get his own Deadpool movie so he will probably be tied up with that. I don't see Cook getting the gig, but I do think he could pull it off.
Juicerules - 1/31/2009, 7:46 PM
I thought My Best Friend's Girl was hilarious. I was not a fan of him nor his standup until I watched that movie.
Juicerules - 1/31/2009, 7:47 PM
man, this movie is going to be "fast"
parascythe - 1/31/2009, 9:49 PM
lol, Captain Boomerang! Flashes villains are so out there. I love Flash in the justice league cartoon and all his villains because they are pretty much the comic relief! I think a movie should be along the same lines..obviously there should be drama too but if they take these characters too seriously it wont work.

The Hawk i like Rosenbaum for it..id have to see him with hair though..he voices the character perfectly in the cartoons and hes a great lex
Rorschach01 - 1/31/2009, 10:14 PM
Ryan Reynolds is the only person who should/can play the Flash, if they pick anyone else. i probably wont see it
LaffaTaffa - 1/31/2009, 11:54 PM
Just got THE FLASH tv series on DVD, can't wait to see this on The Big screen!!! I hope this will be Barry flashbacks, and Wally's origin!!! As for Reynolds as Wally (not Barry in a million years, maybe that guy the was on Dawsons creek which looks like John weslyship, who actually played his dad on that show lol, would be sweet to play the Barry part) ! but i was hardcore for Reynolds but now he's DEADPOOL an was HANIBAL i dunno anymore! : ( 'Cool FLASH news!!! : )
LEEE777 - 2/1/2009, 8:13 AM
I hope they can fit Jay in there. Maybe have some flashback from the 40's in the beginning of the movie, and have him come in later (in another movie or whatever).
On a separate note, what else has this guy written?
groundrunner15 - 2/1/2009, 9:44 AM
Rorschach Rosenbaun looks like this with hair http://www.michaelrosenbaum.com/

Oh and I too ope they work Jay Garrick in there somehow.
THEHAWK - 2/1/2009, 3:30 PM
Just a thought but if Michael Rosenbaun would be Walley West, then maybe Ray Liotta as Barry Allen. As weird as it may seem I could see Robert Duvall as an old Jay Garrick, think about it.
THEHAWK - 2/1/2009, 3:45 PM
I'll believe it when I see it.
DarkAvengers - 2/1/2009, 9:41 PM
Well Weapon X, you watched Amittyville Horror for Reynolds, now watch Mr. Brooks for Cook. That's the only way you can truly compare them. You can't base your opinion on them comparing "Good Luck Chuck" with "Amittyville Horror". It's the same thing as saying that Jack Nicholson is a better Joker than Heath Ledger be cause he did "Wolf" and Heath did "Brokeback Mountain".
Shaman - 2/2/2009, 9:30 AM
Shaman i am gonna need to talk to you for a second... ok, listen up buddy, just between me and you Dane Cook is a real Jack Ass planted my the HollyWood Industry to test the resolve of the Average Theater Goer. Frankly guy... Myself and a few others are gettin a little worried. So i am gonna have to go ahead and ask ya to drop the whole Dane Cook thing (people are starting to talk) and uhhhh , yeah your gonna have to go ahead and get behind , oh i dunno, maybe Paul Walker fer Shi#s and Giggles. whatt'ya say guy... ya with us?
shibazz - 2/2/2009, 6:17 PM
As my article already explained, i chose Dane Cook for three reasons. First and foremost, because he CAN act! Mr. Brooks people, Mr. Brooks. Second because i feel that since everybody wants a JLA movie, a "comic relief" of sorts would be manditory to bring these "gods" back down to earth on a regular basis. Wally West's character would be perfect for a JLA movie and the best actor for the part IMO was Reynolds. Which brings me to the third reason, Reynolds is Deadpool and the best possible pick to follow Reynolds would OBVIOUSLY be Dane Cook. His sarcastic views would be Laugh Out Loud funny in the same presence as Big Blue and the most serious character of all, Bat boy! Now since they seem to be going towards the "barry allen" character, Cook would be wrong for the part. Matt Fox would be better. Paul Walker is a good actor when you can focus on Vin Diesel. 2 fast 2 shittious ring any bells? As a "superhero" he'd be the main focus and would fall way too short! And for the reccord, what ever you and your groupies say behind my back ain’t worth a velvet painting of a whale and a dolphin getting it on. And i mean that in all due respect.
Shaman - 2/3/2009, 10:00 AM
Shaman, behave yourself there are no sides, its just me and you you can feel safe. Hell if a had any groupies on here i'd feel like i was cheatin on ya. I hate Dane Cook couldnt ya pick at least one other actor for the part of the Flash. Come on, you are the master. Just let it flow. I believe in you. But there is no excuse for backing any projects with a 6 foot tall Taint as its main star.
shibazz - 2/3/2009, 7:09 PM
Jay- John Wesley Shipp
Barry- Matt Fox
Wally- Ryan Gosling

Happy??? Even though i feel that Cook would do a great job, i'd be happy to see Gosling as well.
Shaman - 2/4/2009, 9:20 AM
I don't know I could seriously see Ray Liotta as Barry. It would work if the film focused on Wally West. Barry could be a more experienced speedster helping guide Wally. Fox would be good but, he dosen't quite have the acting chops for such an important role as Barry Allen.

Ryan Gosling may be able to pull of Wally, but I'm not sure everybody(including myself) would be crazy about seeing the guy from the Notebook as the Flash.

It would be cool to see Shipp in there as Jay, it would be a shout out to his days as playing the Flash.
THEHAWK - 2/4/2009, 12:41 PM
Yeah but, Liota hasn't pulled off a decent performance since Fields of Dreams.
Shaman - 2/4/2009, 1:50 PM
You've got to admit Goodfellas, was a good movie, and he was great in it. And don't blame actors for what's written, he did the best with what he had.
THEHAWK - 2/4/2009, 1:55 PM
Thanks Shaman. Shibazz is happy
shibazz - 2/4/2009, 2:16 PM
Yeah, i'll give him that...
Shaman - 2/4/2009, 3:10 PM
So what villains do you think should be in it. The Flash supposedly has the largest Rouges Gallery in DC.
