THE FLASH Will Have His Classic Costume In New CW Series; More Details Revealed

Barry Allen will feature in three episodes of Arrow, with the final one serving as a backdoor pilot for his own series. Read on for details on that, as well as confirmation that he will go by "The Flash" moniker and a tease of how the Scarlet Speedster's powers will be portrayed on the small screen.

In a conference call earlier today about CW's upcoming take on The Flash, it was confirmed that Barry Allen will feature in three episodes of Arrow, starting with eight and nine (both of which will take place in Starling City). However, he will later return for number twenty and it will be that which offers fans their first look at his world, thereby serving as a backdoor pilot for his own series. "When we first meet Barry Allen, he's just a forensic ordinary man," Kreisberg confirmed, adding that the character and series will be grounded in the same reality as Arrow. "Part of the fun for the audience is to see how we view our Arrow take on the Flash legacy. Some of it will feel very familiar to DC Comics, some of it hopefully will feel different, fresh and exciting. The same way we approached Arrow is the same way we're approaching Barry."

As for how they are going about introducing a superpowered character to the realistic world of Arrow, Kreisberg was quick to point out that they've already thought of that and have something planned which will fit in tonally with what's come before. "There will be extraordinary events in the world and the characters will react in the same way. The fact he has superpowers, there's something more relatable about Barry among of the Big Seven of the Justice League. He got his powers by accident; he's not a god, he's not an alien...his reactions to that feel very...human and grounded." Geoff Johns was also on hand to answer questions and had this to say about this interpretation of Barry. "We're also exploring a very personal story for Barry, life as forensic scientist and the people around him, the tragedies and how he deals with them in a very different way than Oliver Queen." He would later add that they're still working on how Barry's powers will be portrayed, but it won't be just "blurring around." It was also confirmed that The Flash will have his classic costume, with Kreisberg saying: "No sweat suits or strange code names; he will be The Flash. We want to do something fresh, new and exciting and give people a real cinematic experience the same way we did with Arrow."

Mike89 - 7/30/2013, 5:21 PM
[frick] this show!
LucasMend - 7/30/2013, 5:24 PM
Make the show 12 episodes each season, give it good CGI and no soap opera romance bs. OH WAIT IT'S THE CW, soap opera romance is required.
n1ghtw1ng2832 - 7/30/2013, 5:24 PM
IM A Johns fan so if he's involved it should be pretty good.
Mike89 - 7/30/2013, 5:26 PM
Flash movie or GTFO!
SomTingWong - 7/30/2013, 5:26 PM
I saw only a few episodes of Arrow and I thought it was pretty good. What I'm wondering is if this will tie in with the film
Grayson7954 - 7/30/2013, 5:27 PM
dont know how i feel about this
ForeverPowerful - 7/30/2013, 5:28 PM
Im worried.

I want Arrow in the DCCU, I want Flash to get the movie treatment. If they put the same CW Flash in a movie with Cavill, the new Batman, and Stephen Amell, then whatever.

It all seems ass backwards as all hell to me.
GuardianAngel - 7/30/2013, 5:29 PM
[frick] you stubborn fanboys!

I'd rather they take their time and make a good show, than to abandon their ideas and make a shitty rushed movie.

If they're making a show it's because that's the best format in which they believe the character would work.
Jollem - 7/30/2013, 5:29 PM
"soap opera romances" are no strangers to comic books. or cbms. or cbcs(comic book cartoons?)
ForeverPowerful - 7/30/2013, 5:30 PM

Lets let there be a million different versions of the same character at the same [frick]ing time to confuse the [frick] outta everyone.

That's the way to do it. Good job guys.

[frick]. Its not that hard to get this right.
GuardianAngel - 7/30/2013, 5:31 PM
I'm getting real tired of fanboys whining about what they want. "Movie or GTFO" You don't have to watch it. What does that even mean, "GTFO"? You want them to get the [frick] out? That makes no sense.
typicalfanboy - 7/30/2013, 5:32 PM
i can definitely see this as a CSI meets superhero show. the movie too.
ThePresidentGaming - 7/30/2013, 5:35 PM
The CW & Warner Brothers are making a contract apparently.

Can you see it? Arrow will be connected to the future DC Movies. The Flash they will use will be the one in the movies.

The CW will introduce characters through Arrow & bring them to the big screen. All this talk about Green Lantern.
Ferris Aircraft? Ryan said he wouldn't mind & he said it wont be hard for him to do it again.

I think the Flash will be presented like Smallville.

I'm not saying the costume. The way he moves, his point of view. Remember Impulse in Smallville?

How everything is sort of frozen or in Slow Motion.

LucasMend - 7/30/2013, 5:35 PM
I'm not saying cbs is different either, they don't differ that much from cw.
GuardianAngel - 7/30/2013, 5:37 PM
I'm very curious as to how they make the Flash work visually on screen. Will they have everything around him slower or will they just go with the orange streak zooming around
LEVITIKUZ - 7/30/2013, 5:43 PM

This Kevin Smith guy sounds for real.

typicalfanboy - 7/30/2013, 5:45 PM
"cinematic experience" HAHAHA. seriously if you want that make the damn movie. they'll make more money this way. isn't that what hollywood is all about anyway??
ForeverPowerful - 7/30/2013, 5:46 PM
I don't see their obsession with TV all of a sudden. Arrow was a success because he's an unknown and he can work on a TV budget, all you need is a ripped guy who knows how to shoot a bow.

Flash you need special effects out the ass.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 7/30/2013, 5:49 PM
[frick] it
MrCBM56 - 7/30/2013, 5:49 PM
Slowly becoming excited.
TheWolverine08 - 7/30/2013, 5:51 PM
Still not liking this. Flash needs a movie, not a low budget tv show.
TheWolverine08 - 7/30/2013, 5:51 PM
@Netman0007 Quoted for the truth.
GliderMan - 7/30/2013, 5:52 PM
Hey just as long as it's connected to MOS.
whoa123 - 7/30/2013, 5:52 PM
At least make it connected to the DCCU
Blackvoid - 7/30/2013, 5:52 PM
Cant wait for this! So pumped, kinda wierdly too pumped really. I'm way to excited to even read all the hate you guys have for this. I'm gonna sit on top with the few that are welcoming this excellent opportunity for the flash. Keep it coming CW

p.s. Arrow is the shit!! Not alot of great tv out there, this show is great entertainment. Noone can deny it.
Shaggy - 7/30/2013, 5:53 PM
Greengo - 7/30/2013, 6:02 PM
They're probably doing this in hopes of Flash getting a foothold and broaden it's fan base before The Avengers AND DOFP come out with Quicksilver and saps some of Flash's appeal and potential fan base.
Greengo - 7/30/2013, 6:03 PM
Does anybody know when these episodes will air?
Knightrider - 7/30/2013, 6:07 PM
People want WB not to copy Marvel, and yet introduce their characters before a JL movie, well this seems like a way to do it.

Is there part of me that thinks DC/WB are worried that Quicksilver is on screen first so are aiming to get Flash out there first? Yes, but hey at least they are moving forward with it.

I think mixing TV and Movie universes is a great idea personally.

That line about 'Supernatural' things happening does seem to hint at MoS reference. Even if we see an episode of the monitor in the 'Arrow Cave' get hacked by Zod's message or Oliver makes a reference to donating to the 'Metropolis recovery fund'

Because Arrow is on the CW we perhaps get a bit more of the 'Soppy' stuff than we should, but if these franchises are going to start coming together they may change.

I say let's sit back and enjoy the ride: As one way or another in the next 2years we will have a live action Batman, Superman, Arrow, Flash and they are just the confirmed ones
doccaliban - 7/30/2013, 6:08 PM
What the hell is wrong with you guys that want to go "Movie or GTFO"? Don't you F'ing get it???? Or is everyone that makes that statement just another dumbass like Grif??? Obviously from everything that we have seen on this topic today THE SERIES WILL LEAD INTO THE FLASH MOVIE.....AND THEN THE JUSTICE LEAGUE!!! DAMN!!! GET A CLUE!!! It is DC's way of catching up to marvel. A Flash series spinning out of Arrow....other characters introduced on both series....possibly another series by the time The Flash movie hits...then Justice League. It is a great time to be a comic fan! I think it is a very smart move on the part of DC/Warner! Damn! Sit back and enjoy the ride! Shit!
MrZoolittle - 7/30/2013, 6:08 PM
i like this, i hope it works out. poor tom welling, missed out big time.
Jollem - 7/30/2013, 6:10 PM
flash/arrow > agents of sheild
Battabing - 7/30/2013, 6:12 PM
I like how some trolls are ignoring that WB is still making a Flash film for 2016.
BubblesShedAndBreakfast - 7/30/2013, 6:13 PM
The Flash show from the 90's was fun. I'll admit I'm excited for a Flash show. And powers in Arrow?! I gotta start watching it. I'm glad others enjoyed it, now it's time for me to enjoy it.:)
marvel72 - 7/30/2013, 6:13 PM
game of thrones best show on tv,the only show that can rival it is breaking bad.

i'll give this show a chance,i watched the first five episodes of arrow before giving up on that shit.
Scooby - 7/30/2013, 6:16 PM
