Actress Alice Krige Joins THOR: THE DARK WORLD
The actress best known as The Borg Queen in one of the early Star Trek films, Alice Krige, has revealed she will be filling a small undisclosed role in the anticipated sequel, Thor: The Dark World.
Principal photography for Marvel Studios' much-anticipated Thor followup, subtitled The Dark World, will soon kickoff officially this month. And on-location set preparations have even been spotted overseas in England. And surprisingly, new cast additions other than Christopher Eccleston have yet to be announced.
However, according to multiple sources, it seems we finally have word on who else is joining Marvel's expanding cinematic universe. During a lengthy panel at this year's Star Trek: Las Vegas convention, South African actress Alice Krige announced that she has landed a small role in the Alan Taylor-directed film.
Besides the role being fairly small, the actress apparently added that she may not be recognizable in the film, which indicates that the role she's filling will be some sort of creature. And that also seems likely because she's best known as the “Borg Queen” in Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: Voyager series, which required make-up and prosthetics. The 58-year-old actress also appeared in Chariots of Fire & The Sorcerer's Apprentice.
Considering actor Christopher Eccleston has been confirmed as Malekith the Accursed, ruler of Svartalfheim, it's quite possible Alice Krige could be playing Alflyse, the queen of the Dark Elves and the Svartalfheim realm.
Exploring Thor's relationship with the Asgardian all-father Odin, as well earthbound companion Jane Foster, “Thor: The Dark World” follows the God of Thunder to The Nine Realms beyond Asgard and earth. And as his evil half-brother, Loki, returns for Asgardian justice, a new threat rises. Also rejoining Thor are his fellow Asgardians, Lady Sif, gatekeeper Heimdall and Warriors Three, as they encounter mythical Norse creatures among evildoers.
“Thor: The Dark World” stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Jaimie Alexander, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Stellan Skarsgard, Ray Stevenson, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Rene Russo, with Alice Krige & Kat Dennings. And Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones”) takes over directorial duties from Kenneth Branagh, who helmed the first “Thor” film. From a screenplay written by Don Payne and Robert Rodat, “Thor: The Dark World” is set for release on November 8, 2013.
