Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Joins THOR THE DARK WORLD As Dual Villain Kurse/Algrim

A rather surprising addition to the ensemble cast of Marvel's much-anticipated film Thor: The Dark World, has been unveiled to be actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje playing the villain Kurse!

As filming takes place overseas in London, a surprising new addition to the ensemble cast of Marvel Studios' Alan Taylor-helmed Thor: The Dark World has been revealed. According to Variety, British G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has joined the anticipated sequel in an even more surprising villain role.

“Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has joined the cast of Marvel's "Thor: The Dark World" as one of the lead villains, playing the dual roles of Kurse and Algrim.”

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who's celebrating his 45th birthday today, is best known for his role on the television series Lost and Oz, as well The Mummy Returns and The Bourne Identity movie. And according to, his character, Kurse, was originally Algrim the Strong, one of the Dark Elves of the extra dimensional realm of Svartalfheim who served the Dark Elves' ruler, Malekith the Accursed. What do you think?

Exploring Thor's relationship with the Asgardian all-father Odin, as well earthbound companion Jane Foster, “Thor: The Dark World” follows the God of Thunder to The Nine Realms beyond Asgard and earth. And as his evil half-brother, Loki, returns for Asgardian justice, a new threat rises. Also rejoining Thor are his fellow Asgardians, Lady Sif, gatekeeper Heimdall and Warriors Three, as they encounter mythical Norse creatures among evildoers.

“Thor: The Dark World” stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Jaimie Alexander, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Stellan Skarsgard, Ray Stevenson, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Rene Russo, with Alice Krige & Kat Dennings. And Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones”) takes over directorial duties from Kenneth Branagh, who helmed the first “Thor” film. From a screenplay written by Don Payne and Robert Rodat, “Thor: The Dark World” is set for release on November 8, 2013.

Nooooooooo i wanted him for t'challa or t'chaka!.!!
Dynamo - 8/22/2012, 1:54 PM
Meh, both villains seem like B-Movie material. I think they need some actual talent in this movie. I mean, it's like the casting director just watched G.I Joe and tried to find people that didn't totally [frick] up their lines in it. I'm looking forward to this movie because I really enjoyed the first one, but I'm not sold on the villains just yet.
SimyJo - 8/22/2012, 1:58 PM
Who?, did you just fall asleep on the keyboard typing that?.

(terrible joke sorry). - *looks him up on*
Ha1frican - 8/22/2012, 1:58 PM
First the guy that should be Luke Cage is Heimdall (to be clear i liked him in the role) and now this... [frick]
SeaborneLegend - 8/22/2012, 1:59 PM
Mr Eko ftw :)
Hellsing - 8/22/2012, 1:59 PM
Wow Dynamo sir you are an idiot, judging two actors from movie shows how narrow minded you are. Mr Eko and Dr Who as villians I am sold.
Hellsing - 8/22/2012, 2:00 PM
*from one movie.
SimyJo - 8/22/2012, 2:01 PM
Oh right!, yes I recognise him now!. Great actor and filmography!.

*two furry thumbs up*
JordanKing - 8/22/2012, 2:02 PM
Filming has started?
marvel72 - 8/22/2012, 2:03 PM
i remember kurse,he first appeared in a secret wars 2 crossover.

intresting choice of villain,can't wait.
TayDee - 8/22/2012, 2:05 PM
This movies seems to be trying to focus on too much. We have Thor dealing with his relationship with Odin, Loki being punished, a new world and villians, Jane Foster, and Earth.

I just hope they don't focus too much on Earth, and screw over the Warriors Three
Ha1frican - 8/22/2012, 2:06 PM
Just looked him up on Marvel wiki, makes sense considering hes a dark elf with Malekith (forgive spelling) being the main villain (assuming he is)
Rhinoman - 8/22/2012, 2:09 PM
Surprised we have had only 3 new characters confirmed at this point

Ha1frican - 8/22/2012, 2:10 PM
@TayDee i hope what happens is that the Humans are transported to svartelfheim in an attempt to draw out Thor and its the opposite of Thor where its an Asgaurdian on earth. Plus that would allow for the new 9 realms fantasy stuf while still fulfilling setups of the human characters like Jane and Thors reunion
GarMogoth - 8/22/2012, 2:13 PM
Man looks and acts good, but i can't imagine him as an elf.
GarMogoth - 8/22/2012, 2:14 PM
and dual roles? i thought that Algrim and Kurse are same person
SimyJo - 8/22/2012, 2:16 PM
He's built like a brick ****house, I'm sure he'd be bad for your elf.
DeadHubris - 8/22/2012, 2:16 PM

Well he is Heavy duty.
superotherside - 8/22/2012, 2:20 PM
Awesome. Can't wait. Perhaps Darcy will be Hela. With her seemingly expanded role it could be true... :)
ManThing - 8/22/2012, 2:20 PM
NIIIIICE!!! nice nice nice choice!

Mistah Eko FTW!

And I am SO glad to learn that Kurse is even in it!
NorrinRaddical - 8/22/2012, 2:20 PM
SimyJo you crack me up buddy

this is GREAT casting! Adebisi lives!
DanteSparda - 8/22/2012, 2:21 PM
Kurse you Adelawe!
SuperSpiderMan5778 - 8/22/2012, 2:22 PM
what a waste of casting he should be in the black panther movie. what the fawk is marvel doing?
Bane2099 - 8/22/2012, 2:25 PM
He wouldve been better casted as T'Chaka for the Black Panther film...oh well, lets see how this turns role turns out for him.
80sFace - 8/22/2012, 2:26 PM
Jane Foster is captured by someone and Thor is told that to get her back he has to go into the realm of the Dark Elves to retrieve something. Like the trials of Hercules. Could be what the plot is.
AztecRainGod - 8/22/2012, 2:27 PM

The Unstoppable Kurse ! Jacked up to ridiculous levels by the Beyonder !
blvdnoise - 8/22/2012, 2:27 PM
PerlaB4 - 8/22/2012, 2:28 PM
i can't wait to see this. He would've been great for black panther though
CherryBomb - 8/22/2012, 2:28 PM
So is this the last casting?

:( no Enchantress?
captainbeta - 8/22/2012, 2:28 PM
Perfect casting. If they do Kurse/Algrim he should be wearing a helmet anyways. But as an actor he is just right. Physically bigger than Hemsworth and his acting abilities will blend well with Eckleson. I am excited for this casting. Just a few more of the characters from the other realms and we are set.

Kurse possesses a number of superhuman attributes as a result of his natural dark elf physiology and mystical augmentation. Kurse's main advantage against foes is his strength - while initially a close match for Thor, his strength was first increased to twice and then four times, that of Thor. Courtesy of enchanted armor that was fused to his skin by the Beyonder, Kurse is now almost totally invulnerable.

Kurse also has the ability to sense and track his opponents over distances as great as continents and can see through illusions and disguises. His armor is a living, sentient, and enchanted armor that allows Kurse to see everything around him.

"As for "Black Panther," he noted that T'Challa "has a lot of the same characteristics of a Captain America: great character, good values." But the movie might be difficult to pull off, he said, because of having to create Wakanda from the ground up. "It's always easier basing it here. For instance, 'Iron Man 3' is rooted right here in Los Angeles and New York. When you bring in other worlds, you're always faced with those difficulties."

You have GOT to be kidding me!. I was really looking forward to this one. Difficulty recreating Wakanda is an absolute pile of horse**** - Marvel didn't have any problem with recreating Asgard beautifully in Thor™.
webheaded - 8/22/2012, 2:41 PM
Hmmmmmm. I don't know how I feel about this...
Dynamo - 8/22/2012, 2:41 PM
Wtf are you talking about? I've seen most of both actors films and watched Dr Who religiously and I'm still not convinced. Agbaje particularly is not a convincing actor, he was terrible in Bourne, Mummy Returns, G.I Joe and Get Rich or Die Trying. He plays his roles over the top and is rarely ever menacing. He was aright in Oz, but this being a superhero film and his character being a strength based villain, I have very little to convince me that he'll play it with a lot of depth.

As for Eccelston, I just don't he has the gravitas to pull off the main villain. He was fine as Doctor Who and alright in Shallow Grave and 28 Days Later but I would have rather have someone that leaves more of an impression acting wise as the villain.

Now as for your little [frick]ing comment, don't make dumb assumptions based on what was clearly hyperbole. I'm not the common internet troll you come across spewing anti-marvel/DC bullshit. I have an actual education and I know what I'm talking about what I make a comment expressing my opinion.
tracydavis001 - 8/22/2012, 2:42 PM
I like him as an actor , I just hope they get Kurse right!!
WOTAN - 8/22/2012, 2:43 PM
This is excellent news!! He is a great actor and kurse is perfect for thor to brawl with. Hopefully this fight turns out better that the destroyer fight wich ended much easily.
Dunejedi - 8/22/2012, 2:43 PM
@black and yellow Hahahaha! Awesome.

I love Adewale's stuff, but I agree that this is a "Meh" role for him. I would have much preferred him as T'Chaka in Black Panther. It kinda seems like their villain choices are "Meh" too. The Enchantress backed-up by The Executioner seemed like a natural. We'll see.
siggisuperman - 8/22/2012, 2:43 PM
This guy sounds badass and stupid powerful. Can't wait to see this!! Thor is my favorite MCU movie. Can't wait to see what happens to Loki after the events of the Avengers
