Christopher Eccleston Cast As Malekith The Accursed In THOR: THE DARK WORLD!

We have our Thor 2 villain -- Deadline report that British actor Eccleston (Dr Who, Shallow Grave) will play Malekith, ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim in Alan Taylor's Marvel sequel..

According to Deadline, Christopher Eccleston has been set for the villain role in Marvel Studios’ Thor sequel. The actor, probably best known to sci-fi fans for his turn as the ninth Doctor Who, will play the Dark Elf ruler, Malekith The Accursed. Obviously that also confirms the earlier rumor that Thor will be taking on the Dark Elves in the movie.

Eccleston is a fine actor, impressing in pretty much every role he has been cast in (the less said about Gi Joe: Rise Of Cobra the better), and is sure to make for a great villain. The choice of Malekith as the character might disappoint some fans however, as many hoped to see The Enchantress or The Executioner. But there is every chance one or both of them could also make an appearance too of course. What do you guys think of the choice of villain and actor?

Hmm... Never watch Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity: Rise of Cobra or Doctor Who (Nothing against Doctor Who, just not my cup of Tea, or temperature of Spotted Dick). But he looks okay. I haven't read much Thor beyond various collections of single issues and volumes and arcs of Avengers that spand over a decade and JMS's run. I'll have to go see what I can find with Malekith.

"Fantastic" The other Doctors have been great but I do wish they at least gave him one more season.

There are better names for Dark Elves than "Dark Elves" such as Dökkálfar. Saying Dark Elves is a bit cheesy. But it would be fine if they say it once just to establish it.

I hope they have Enchantress. There are only a few "good" female villiains and she is one of them. Why only a few no idea outside the fact it seems female comic characters outside Wonder Woman are being given more depth and some not very believable. Girl Power is fine and all but make super females believable at least. Male characters with very few weapons or powers is bad enough.

Great casting choice. I have a feeling this will be one of those movies where the sequel is twice as good as the first

So in 2013 Sonic screwdrivers will battle magic hammers. Bifrost vs Tardis. The Doctor vs Thor. Ohhh the Doctor who jokes I will make. :D

I can see Marvel's going low budget on the payroll.
CeltiC527 - 8/1/2012, 6:47 PM
I guess this is a pretty good casting choice but it makes mad to know that Mads Mikkelsen was originally going to play Malekith because I think he is a better choice.
whitmore55 - 8/1/2012, 6:47 PM
