Patty Jenkins Not Worthy of Mjölnir ... Out as Director of THOR 2

Patty Jenkins Not Worthy of Mjölnir ... Out as Director of THOR 2

Another swing and a miss for Marvel Studios as Patty Jenkins (Monster) is the second director to walk away from the project. Click the jump for details.

Patty Jenkins banished from Asgard! According to Deadline Director Patty Jenkins (AMC's The Killing) is departing from Thor 2 because of "creative differences." Patty was the second choice to Game of Thrones director Brian Kirk. Marvel is said to be moving very quickly on Patty's replacement in order to keep the release date, November 15, 2013.

Deadline added that this may not be the last of Patty Jenkins in the superhero genre. I'm not sure if they are speculating or if their source gave them a scoop, but they said, "The feeling is that she’ll probably end up working on one of these superhero films, but perhaps not on a sequel."

Somewhat surprising. Good thing the movie has been pushed to November 2013.

gamecreatorjj - 12/6/2011, 4:07 PM
as long as they dont get branagh im good
Oarsis - 12/6/2011, 4:08 PM
Aw....I was really hoping she would do it!

She is great! No matter what some of you people who think only a male can do an action/comic book movie.

Her movie "Monster" was so great! She is great with female characters....I am still hoping for Enchantress and Valkyrie!!!
SageMode - 12/6/2011, 4:19 PM

yes. happy news!
marvel72 - 12/6/2011, 4:27 PM
peter jackson would be awesome but he'll be too busy with the hobbit part 2.

jj abrams would be a great choice.
AC1 - 12/6/2011, 4:27 PM
Peter Jackson! Hell, I'll do it really cheap if they want!
nuclearpriest - 12/6/2011, 4:28 PM
I'm hoping the new director is either Drew Goddard or Matt Reeves if he's done with the Twilight Zone movie in time.
nuck82 - 12/6/2011, 4:28 PM
marvel being to much of an iron fist a good thing or bad?
Viltrumite - 12/6/2011, 4:28 PM
The release date had been changed to November 15, 2013, I believe.
JordanKing - 12/6/2011, 4:30 PM
Shame, but not too surprising. I got a feeling this is gonna get pushed back to 2014 unless they really put there foot down, on the flip side, last thing we need is another rushed film.
Simonsonrules - 12/6/2011, 4:31 PM
Wish list for director:

1. Branagh (it could happen)
2. Guillermo del Toro (it very likely won't happen)
3. Me (no chance in hell)
nuclearpriest - 12/6/2011, 4:31 PM
By the way, the superhero movie that Patty Jenkins might do in the future has got to be The Black Widow.
TheHitchhikingGhost - 12/6/2011, 4:33 PM
Joss Whedon.
THORGodOfThunder - 12/6/2011, 4:33 PM
Oarsis - 12/6/2011, 4:34 PM
@nuclearpriest....That would be cool!

If Joss Whedon makes her Russian (It was rumored he was, and with a good script, I could see a Black Widow movie kicking a lot of ass!

i want a director who knows how to film action scenes. for all the awesomeness in the Marvel Universe, the action scenes have not been all that great in any of the Marvel made movies, yet.

it's the reason i was liking the idea of McTiegue as the director. the action scenes would be incredible with him at the helm.
marvel72 - 12/6/2011, 4:37 PM
@ Darkclaw0

darren aronofsky would be a dream come true, since he left the wolverine i've wanted to see him direct a superhero movie.
JordanKing - 12/6/2011, 4:40 PM
Branagh isn't an option at this point realistically. Most likely they'll get another relatively unknown director as a replacement.
NextHero08 - 12/6/2011, 4:42 PM
Well [frick]. Was hoping could actually make Thor GOOD...guess thats another strike.
marvel72 - 12/6/2011, 4:42 PM
@ l0rdleg0las

the incredible hulk has featured the best fight scenes so far,the fight on the school campus & hulk vs abomination are excellent.

mrteaspoon - 12/6/2011, 4:43 PM
It's hard not to assume Marvel is at fault, they're beginning to develop a pattern for this sort of thing.
CherryBomb - 12/6/2011, 4:43 PM
Damn! that sucks!
Patty would've made Thor 2 AMAZING. :(

JordanKing - 12/6/2011, 4:48 PM
I assume you meant 2013 Intruder :p
Bodwulf - 12/6/2011, 4:48 PM
She will direct Edward Norton and Terrance Howard in Power Man and Iron Fist.
Spidey91 - 12/6/2011, 4:48 PM
the f*ck?!
desmond - 12/6/2011, 4:49 PM
it was only earlier 2day that tom 'loki' was talking bout his sit down chat with her & chris 'thor' bout the sequel & now she's out wtf! monster was a good movie but not familiar with her to rate her overall work but alarm bells are ringing if reason is diff of opinion, maybe she wanted 2 make a good movie! ps i thought thor was great, much better than cafa..
santoanderson - 12/6/2011, 4:49 PM
Marvel Studios is really cultivating a "Stubborn Asshole" mentality. Just ask Terrence Howard, Edward Norton, and Jon Favreau. They might say they parted amicably in the public, but it's clear that their bridges are burnt.

Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige are just micro-managing these movies WAY too much, and it's making them worse (Iron Man 2 anyone?). All they want from a director is someone who is dirt-cheap that can act as Feige's mouthpiece.
ComixBookGuy - 12/6/2011, 4:50 PM
Add Patty Jenkins name to Marvel's Wall of Shame with Jon Favreau, Mickey Rourke, and Edward Norton. Marvel Studios just cannot get a break with their directors and actors.
krooklyndodger - 12/6/2011, 4:50 PM
She parted because of creative differences. Another example of how Marvel is continuing to have a negative impact on their film properties.

SageMode - 12/6/2011, 4:51 PM
I think Marvel knows what theyre doing. They're trying no to make the Studios properties like the the ones under other studios thus far. If its over "creative difference", then I think it's best that Marvel gave Jenkins the pink slip.
santoanderson - 12/6/2011, 4:53 PM
Creative Differences = "Patty wanted to make Thor 2. Marvel wants to make Avengers 1.5"
Niuhll - 12/6/2011, 4:57 PM
'Creative Differences' doesn't mean Marvel are at fault. We don't know what Patty wanted to do with it, we don't know what Marvel want to do with it. I'd like Duncan Jones on one of these films though. And Nicolas Winding Refn. Though, not sure if they are right for Thor.
superotherside - 12/6/2011, 4:59 PM
Surprising... still I'm not crying about it and I'm not glad about it. Who should get Thor 2 now?
marvel72 - 12/6/2011, 5:02 PM
we don't know what the creative differences are, remember norton wanted too much creative control of the hulk,he wanted to make changes to the characters background.

patty jenkins may of wanted to make changes to thor that would of ruined the movie, just like how fox as ruined most of their cbm's.

ironpool007 - 12/6/2011, 5:11 PM
Marvel should just wait a litttle bit and then Kenneth Branagh's schedule will free up again for him to direct Thor 2.
TheHitchhikingGhost - 12/6/2011, 5:12 PM
David Yates
