Props Arrive To the Bourne Wood ‘Fictional Village’ Set for THOR: THE DARK WORLD

Now showing the Bourne Wood set for the Marvel sequel being dressed with village-like props, more set photos have surfaced, as well a potential detail regarding the battle between kingdoms.

Readying for filming on the location next week, Monday, props and lighting equipment have been installed to the set of Thor: The Dark World, located in Bourne Wood, Farnham, Surrey, England. As previously reported, a fictional village is being established with yurts, pillars and village-like dressing. And thanks to UK photographer Wayne Howes, we have six fantastic photos showcasing all of the impressive work, so far.

Filming commenced today at Shepperton Studios. The sequence that will be filmed on the set pictured below involves about 300 extras, and a battle between two kingdoms ensuing before the God of Thunder himself, Thor arrives and “saves the day.” The shoot is expected to last ten days, and is due to occur only during the day.

Regarding exactly who these two kingdoms will be, I was told by a local UK actor that his ginger beard landed him a role in the sequel as the leader of a “Maurauder Army,” but he had to turn down the offer. With that in mind, it's possible the fictional village constructed is home to this Maurauder Army, and is invaded by the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, before Thor and other Asgardians take over. Just a theory, but what do you think?

Exploring Thor's relationship with the Asgardian all-father Odin, as well earthbound companion Jane Foster, “Thor: The Dark World” follows the God of Thunder to The Nine Realms beyond Asgard and earth. And as his evil half-brother, Loki, returns for Asgardian justice, a new threat rises. Also rejoining Thor are his fellow Asgardians, Lady Sif, gatekeeper Heimdall and Warriors Three, as they encounter mythical Norse creatures among evildoers.

“Thor: The Dark World” stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Jaimie Alexander, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Stellan Skarsgard, Ray Stevenson, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Rene Russo, with Alice Krige & Kat Dennings. And Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones”) takes over directorial duties from Kenneth Branagh, who helmed the first “Thor” film. From a screenplay by Don Payne and Robert Rodat, “Thor: The Dark World” is set for release on November 8, 2013.

I wonder if Asgard will still be the same or toned down in this one.
Dynamo - 9/6/2012, 6:49 PM
Not sure I'm liking the more grounded tone of this film, I really liked the look of the out there version of Asgard in the first movie. I was hoping that they'd explore that some more. From what I can tell they've just made it look like Game of Thrones. Thor might look out of place with his rubber outfit. But I'll wait and see, this is only one set after all...
BlueHawaiiSurfer - 9/6/2012, 6:55 PM
Is this supposed to be Asgard? The first movie made it look like a track from Mario Kart, the more grounded look of other locations is just what the Dr. my opinion anyway.
NostalgicYouth - 9/6/2012, 7:07 PM
Yeah they were going with the whole Jack Kirby style for Asgard in the first Thor which made since for Thors costume, but just seemed to goofy looking and too outworldly so I hope that they make it more into a Viking inspired world which it looks like they are going for.
StormLoganSummers - 9/6/2012, 7:20 PM
I hope they keep the looks of Asgard and Jotunheim that were seen in Thor, but they can go all "less CGI" on the other realms all they like.
JerBear - 9/6/2012, 7:23 PM
There was nothing wrong with the otherworldly look of the first Thor. The cgi is one thing, the designs however were perfect.

This looks okay so far, just hope the finished product doesn't just look like medieval earth because that is NOT what Thor should be.
marvel72 - 9/6/2012, 7:31 PM
this isn't asgard,it says in the above text "The sequence that will be filmed on the set pictured below involves about 300 extras, and a battle between two kingdoms ensuing before the God of Thunder himself, Thor arrives and saves the day."

its another kingdom.
Ha1frican - 9/6/2012, 7:36 PM
No way this is Asgard. Go dreary and toned down for say Svartalfheim or any other realms but leave Asgard the way it is.
Bane2099 - 9/6/2012, 7:39 PM
So long as they keep the look of Asgard and, if they show it again, Jotunheim the same as the first film, im good. Just for continuity sake.
Connerkentver1 - 9/6/2012, 7:43 PM
This movie is going to suck it real hard. Thor is not that marketable and taking him off Earth and Asgard is a really bad [frick]ing idea. Leave him as a bit player like in the Avengers. He is a cameo guy only and doesnt deserve his own films.
Connerkentver1 - 9/6/2012, 7:46 PM
By the way I'm a DC guy but I love Marvels movies. I thought the Dark Knight Rises was as big a cinematic disappointment as I've ever known. What a piece of shit that film is. So many flaws in the writing I can't even start. Film students don't make mistakes like that
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 9/6/2012, 7:47 PM
These real sets are getting me excited a bit. I love real sets opposed to CGI.
Floke - 9/6/2012, 8:02 PM
It have a anciet look, but I do not know about the cranes... They look a little bit out of place.

StarkAnthony - 9/6/2012, 8:02 PM
I'm betting Asgard will look the same, or at least all the parts we've seen already. New parts of Asgard might look more Viking inspired, and new realms will probably look more realistic.
AztecRainGod - 9/6/2012, 8:02 PM
Thor is going to be owning mofos. ( I hope he kicks Kurses ass though)
BubblesShedAndBreakfast - 9/6/2012, 8:10 PM
Anyone else hear the Doctor Strange rumor about him being in this?
IDKwhatToChoose - 9/6/2012, 8:11 PM
So is the Dr. Strange rumor true?
IDKwhatToChoose - 9/6/2012, 8:11 PM
It's on newsrama and facebook was hoping it was here because I lost it in the bottomless pit of facebook newsfeed.
PeterDarker121 - 9/6/2012, 8:32 PM
@hope420 I just read about the Dr. Strange possible end credits teaser a few minutes ago...I guess Viggo Mortensen is a remote possibilty?

I CAN'T effin wait for phase two
Spidey91 - 9/6/2012, 9:34 PM
sigh at some comments here.
"Asgard needs to be more grounded,in the first one was too outworldy,"...well,that's exactly the point! it's a FICTIONAL realm,f*cking GODS live there, why should it look like 1100's Norway?

screw that "more grounded" sh*t,Asgard was perfect in the first one and it should be the same way in this one.
Lozzy - 9/6/2012, 10:06 PM
this new Asgard looks sexy as [frick]!!
Kayo - 9/6/2012, 10:15 PM
that is not Asgard, it's another kingdom. Asgard in Thor was perfect, they nailed it.

Can't wait for more.
SugarYumYum - 9/6/2012, 10:28 PM
These set pieces are GORGEOUS. Differently can get behind the direction this film is going in!

Honestly really didn't like the way Asgard was portrayed in the first film. It was pretty and I like what they were going for but the final outcome was just too cartoony and the flesh and blood people looked so out of place. Hope they find a way to keep Asgard in this film looking fantastical without looking so... CGI?
Jollem - 9/6/2012, 11:23 PM
props to the props

be better than thor 1. and thor, stay away from titanium/gold. it's like kryptonite to kyrptonians. you are powerless against it :)
Seejay - 9/6/2012, 11:42 PM

I hope they tone down the CGI, Starwars looking Asgard as well.
SunSp0t - 9/7/2012, 12:19 AM
Looking very promising, I wonder if they chose to make any design changes to Thors Armor?
CoolantTech - 9/7/2012, 12:21 AM
man, hope Asgard looks this practical, this time around
NeoBaggins - 9/7/2012, 12:50 AM
Me likes it.

And they may mix digital FX with the practical sets. Like the sky and clouds for that cosmic backdrop. I like this feel even tho this is not much to see.
vanhelsing - 9/7/2012, 1:16 AM cool thor poster
Equivocal - 9/7/2012, 1:29 AM

I read somehwere that one of the big Marvel characters will make his entrance in Thor 2, not as a simple cameo but as a big part of the cast and that character would be not other than dr. strange, rumor has it that he will be introduce as a scientist, working with jane foster.
waddaya think ????

if true, looks AMAZING !!!!!!!!
BigThor - 9/7/2012, 2:22 AM
Connerkentver1 - Tell that to 450 million dollars the first Thor film made, it's Marvel Studios second most successful franchise.

1. Iron Man

2. Thor

3. Captain America

4. Hulk
GUNSMITH - 9/7/2012, 2:45 AM
thunderforce - 9/7/2012, 4:44 AM
Thor a bit player ? what are you smoking . Thor is almost as much of a bit player in Marvel as Superman is in DC . To me Thor is like a cross between Superman , Wonder Woman and the Wizard from Shazam , since he has elements from all three .
Cosmic1 - 9/7/2012, 5:22 AM
Kinda diss appointing looks like swims meet LOTR. I wanna see some stuff like I never seen before, different realms out of the world stuff.ooking at this tells me there probably won't be a Thor 3.
NOID - 9/7/2012, 5:26 AM
I'll take real location shooting over awful CGI any day... and the cgi in THOR was awful....
marvel72 - 9/7/2012, 5:26 AM
@ Connerkentver1

thor budget $150,000,000

thor gross $449,326,618

i can see thor the dark world making the same if not more.
thunderforce - 9/7/2012, 5:45 AM
@Cosmic1 LOTR is what Thor should look like when it is just based in the nine realms . Thor should be making movies longer than Iron Man since he has way better bad guys than Iron Man does . If you want other world stuff Thor can do that too since he doesn't need to breathe in space he can go cosmic and visit worlds in space but that may not be for a few more movies yet since they are just getting started .
