Screenwriter Christopher Yost Talks THOR: THE DARK WORLD

Screenwriter Christopher Yost Talks THOR: THE DARK WORLD

While he's careful not to give to much away about the highly anticipated Marvel Studios sequel, Christopher Yost (perhaps best known for his work on comic books such as Scarlet Spider and Avenging Spider-Man) talks here about his experiences on the set of Thor: The Dark World so far.

Talking to Newsarama about taking over writing duties on Avenging Spider-Man (a title which features the controversial new status quo of having Doctor Octopus as Spider-Man), Christopher Yost was asked by the site what it has been like to make the transition from comic book writing to penning the screenplay for Thor: The Dark World. "I've been working on Thor since February, I think, and its the biggest project I've ever worked on. The transition has been fine, but the practical "Let's actually go out and shoot this thing" aspect of it has been huge. [Laughs.]" As for his experience on set so far, Yost was careful not to give anything away about the plot of the movie. He did however have this to say about what it has been like to be in London and still write for Marvel Comics. "It's been amazing, I'll leave it at that. As far as juggling comics at the same time, I've done my best to keep my head above water — Tom Brennan and Ellie Pyle deserve all the credit for holding it all together while I've been in a nine month long "crunch time."

Marvel’s "Thor: The Dark World" continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s "Thor" and "Marvel’s The Avengers," Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Tom Hiddleston as Loki
Anthony Hopkins as Odin
Natalie Portman as Jane Foster
Zachary Levi as Fandral
Ray Stevenson as Volstagg
Tadanobu Asano as Hogun
Jaimie Alexander as Sif

glad they are using writers in house who know the characters. Good news indeed. He was the main driving force behind A:EMH
nuclearpriest - 12/28/2012, 2:46 PM
Since I don't read any of the comic books that Christopher Yost writes, I don't know whether his writing of the Thor 2 screenplay is a good thing or not. Could someone who does please give me a fairly detailed opinion of whether he is a good or bad comic writer and why?
marvel72 - 12/28/2012, 2:53 PM
most anticipated comic book movie of 2013 thor the dark world.

most anticipated comic book movie of phase 2 guardians of the galaxy.
TheAbomination - 12/28/2012, 2:58 PM
GOTG is my most anticipated Phase 2 movie, but I have no doubt that Alan Taylor will bring the awesomeness.
Funsize - 12/28/2012, 2:59 PM
Most anticipated cbm of 2013 for me.
SpiderFan16 - 12/28/2012, 3:00 PM

Having read Scarlet Spider, I think this movie is in very good hands. Like others have mentioned, the fact that Yost is an in-house writer at Marvel and knows the characters really well already, is a major bonus.
Parker2017 - 12/28/2012, 3:02 PM
@Dionysios they used an in hosue writer for the first film JMS came up with the story and screenplay it was re-written, but i still liekd thor.
KeefNCookies - 12/28/2012, 3:16 PM
Hilarious... I was literally typing whilst thinking... you know who should be given a chance to write movies, Christopher Yost, no joke. Then the page loads and I see this article.

Congrats Yost, make us proud.
DrDoom - 12/28/2012, 3:17 PM
Need this movie nao
nihcamja - 12/28/2012, 3:20 PM
In other news, CosmicBookNews confirmed an Aquaman film post Justice League in 2015, can anyone else cofirm this?
KaneRomita - 12/28/2012, 3:27 PM
A quick way to get a Chris Yost fix would be to watch the latest Avengers cartoon (Earth's Mightiest Heroes) or the most recent Fantastic Four cartoon. Both of which show (imho) a vast knowledge of the Marvel Universe. I didn't know he was working on Thor 2. I'd say it's a good sign for the movie.

his IMDB page..
Deschain12 - 12/28/2012, 3:59 PM
I have a feeling this is gonna be special. Hemsworth kills it as Thor.
TheFox - 12/28/2012, 3:59 PM
Whoa, whoa, whoa... Christopher Yost wrote the Thor: The Dark World screenplay? The same Christopher Yost who writes Scarlet Spider and Avenging Spider-Man, two of the best books Marvel's putting out these days?

... Okay, my excitement for this movie just tripled.

Fogs - 12/28/2012, 4:01 PM
Trailer please?
AztecRainGod - 12/28/2012, 4:18 PM
Way to not give anything away. =#

Shit, throw us a bone, SOMETHING.
DioFoRio - 12/28/2012, 4:21 PM I didn't know that.I was under the assumption they just used parts of his story arch.
AztecRainGod - 12/28/2012, 4:26 PM
This is terrific, now they need to concentrate on never letting Don Payne near another Marvel movie.

What happened with that anyway? I thought Robert Rodat was supposed to rewrite Paynes original story. I dont see Rodat credited on any of the websites....
GoldenDave - 12/28/2012, 5:01 PM
an unknown entity older than time that can defeat Odin? Fear Itself?
AztecRainGod - 12/28/2012, 5:05 PM
Probably Surtur.
thorhulk77 - 12/28/2012, 5:20 PM

I read the same article and I too need confirmation. I hope its true. Aquaman is a truly underrated superhero. Thank god Geoff Johns' comic series showed us how powerful he truly is.
SageMode - 12/28/2012, 5:49 PM
Im just ready to see a trailer for this already.
KeefNCookies - 12/28/2012, 7:35 PM
Yes that C.Yost. Also the same man who was responsible for the best of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes among other 2000s underrated cartoons. Godspeed Thor Odinson, see you next year~
Maximus101 - 12/28/2012, 8:53 PM
I'm not gonna lie, that costume on the left looks terrible lol I hope it's good! This movie has some serious competition next year.
eleven59 - 12/28/2012, 9:14 PM
Is that a gold predator? Lol
ATrueHero1987 - 12/28/2012, 9:27 PM
I'm ready for this movie. I hope the next Thor movies we get The Enchantress, The Executioner, and Surtur.
mgeoff88 - 12/28/2012, 9:51 PM
I would like to give a toast to Yost for being awesome. Salud!

Thor:TDW looks really good. I hope Lady Sif has more action scenes this time around.
nihcamja - 12/28/2012, 10:14 PM
@thorhulk77 Also agree, he needs a movie soon.
nihcamja - 12/28/2012, 10:14 PM
Also aquaman should be in injustice.
Bread - 12/28/2012, 10:56 PM

My most anticipated movies of 2013

Man of Steel
Star Trek ID
Thor TDW
Iron Man 3
Kick Ass 2
Bread - 12/28/2012, 10:59 PM
I get how Aquaman is an underrated character, but I think it would be a big mistake to bring him to the big screen. The general audience will not pay money to see an Aquaman movie. I think a Flash solo film would be a much better way to go.
didich - 12/29/2012, 2:13 AM
Very interesting news. Thor: The Dark World just became my second most anticipated film of 2013.
Kyos - 12/29/2012, 3:52 AM
I had reeeeally huge expectations for the first Thor movie, and I can't deny I was a bit let down by what we got in the end. Enjoyable, but nowhere near as special as I'd hoped. So I'm trying to keep my excitement level at "cautiously optimistic" for this one.

Still, I haven't heard or seen anything too disconcerting about this yet. Alan Taylor should be able to deliever, and from what I heard on the comments of this article the screenplay seems to be in the hands of someone who really knows his shit.

Damn, I'm getting all overly excited again...! ;)
marvel72 - 12/29/2012, 3:53 AM
need to see a photo of kurse or even better a trailer, maybe we'll see a trailer/footage at the superbowl.

@ GoldenDave

surtur predates odin,so it could definitely be surtur.
dellamorte1872 - 12/29/2012, 6:29 AM
im happy woth his inclusion him and his writing partner did well with XFORCE and WOLVERINE + THE XMEN but does he KNOW hia THOR shit? id assume b/c he also did the AVENGERS EMH 'toon. so i'm thinking as long as the villains work the story will as well
billytwohats - 12/29/2012, 6:36 AM
I wasn't a big fan of the first one I thought the cast where great and it was well directed but my problem was with the source material. The Asgardians looked liked they'd stepped out of Eternia too much he man not enough Norse mythology IMHO.
dellamorte1872 - 12/29/2012, 6:37 AM
he works with the X mythos a lot so hopefully he acclimates well
