Tom Hiddleston On THOR: THE DARK WORLD

Tom Hiddleston On THOR: THE DARK WORLD

Tom Hiddleston on Thor: The Dark World, The Avengers and more! The actor discusses what the tonal formula will be for 'Dark World' plus where things jump off after his defeat at the hands of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. You're filming Thor: The Dark World at the moment - are you feeling more pressure after the success of Avengers?
Tom Hiddleston: It's mostly self-applied pressure actually. I remember Chris [Hemsworth] and I saying over the summer when Avengers came out, where do we go now? Going into this one we were - very flatteringly - involved in big creative conversations about tone, and story. Thor and Loki are these two characters that people know and love and understand - so we have to take this in the right direction. You want to do something new - you don't want to re-heat the same recipe in the microwave, you want to cook up something different and exciting - but you don't want to lose the things that worked the first time. So we're our own slave drivers, in a way. Complacency is the enemy. But that's exciting and it's going well. I have never seen a group of actors or a crew work harder.

How has Avengers influenced the rest of the Marvel franchises? Loki being Hulk smashed - you can't ignore that has happened.
Hiddleston: Yeah! [laughs] He's certainly eaten humble pie. The springboard for us in the second Thor film is at the end of Avengers you see Thor and Loki beamed up back to Asgard. The first question that we all asked was "what happens next? What does Odin have to say about the events of Avengers?" What's Jane Foster been up to while she wasn't involved?" It's really exciting, actually. We're literally half way through - we started at the start of August and we should be finished by Christmas. It's going beautifully.

It will be interesting, to say the least, to see where the story goes for Loki in Thor: The Dark World. Arguably, he's more important than any of the individual Avengers in terms of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He's gone toe-to-toe with Heimdall, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man and of course the Hulk faring better against some moreso than others. Will he continue to be an important lynchpin going forward or will 'The Dark World' look to put Loki in the peripherals as we move forward to another maniacal threat for Avengers 2? looks like the trailer will hit online early next year or it might be attached in front of IM3.

Hiddleston the class act.
dezdigi - 11/14/2012, 8:21 AM
Done by Christmas? Nice to hear that everything is on schedule, no snags so far!
RamonSuarez - 11/14/2012, 8:21 AM
Hiddleston is a quintessential professional actor. Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker is the greatest portrayal of a comic villain ever, but Hidddleston as Loki is number two in my list when you consider his work in Thor and the Avengers as well as all of the future appearances his character will make down the line. Marvel could not have asked for a greater spokesperson for their properties among their cast.
cerrone6 - 11/14/2012, 8:21 AM
One could only imagine Odin would somewhat explain the Tesseract (Cube) & at least how he got it in the 1st place. We should be expecting loki to get disciplined by Odin.
Kevinwillpeabodyproperties - 11/14/2012, 8:27 AM
This is gonna be great on so many levels so many answers in this film!!
JRM1995 - 11/14/2012, 8:37 AM
First film was crap and way overrated, this will be as well. First film couldn't even get to $200 million domestic, just like all the stand alone drivel Marvel releases besides Iron Man.
ATrueHero1987 - 11/14/2012, 8:42 AM
@RamonSuarez Well said.

I enjoyed the first Thor, and something tells me that T:DW will be even better.

^^^ to a degree your right, ALL the asguardian stuff was handled perfectly... but i hated everything about the earth scenes.... not a big enough scale for me, it felt like the director didnt believe in his own movie.... and this is coming from a die hard thor fan.... i exspected alot more, but i also believe this movie will be the best marvel movie to date... i have that much faith in alan taylor after watching Game of thrones

Masters of Evil for the Avengers 2!

Loki is going to do one nice thing and we are going to conviently forget he killed over 80 people in Germany, untold amount dead in NYC and tried kill Thor (his brother). But as long as their are explosions and "stuff" im happy.
KaneVonDoom - 11/14/2012, 9:24 AM
Everyone in mainstream thought Thor was a goofy idea and I was actually very surprised back when they announced they were going into production on the first movie and amazed that it was handled as well as it did.

I'm sure reception will be much better this time around since Loki and Thor are much more recognized by the general public after both Thor and The Avengers.
jimpinto24 - 11/14/2012, 9:36 AM
I'm curious to see how Alan Taylor handles Loki in Thor:TDW. Loki is an important character in the MCU.
Otter2269 - 11/14/2012, 9:36 AM
First Thor was decent, first Cap was ok. I think it was just hard for either of those 2 movies to live up to the standard set by IM 1. Looking forward to all of the phase 2 movies.
rockerdude22 - 11/14/2012, 9:38 AM
Loki is currently my favorite CBM villain, so I'm excited to see where they take the character next. They couldn't have picked a better actor for him!
siggisuperman - 11/14/2012, 9:39 AM
Thor ruled. It was like Avengers, right mix of humor and action.

Then give me one of those large enough to ride!
Fogs - 11/14/2012, 9:44 AM
@AlexDeLarge87 - rumor has it.

And Hiddleston is awesome.

And I'm glad he keepss giving tidbits of information. Given the past infos he provided for Avengers before its launch it's safe Jane WAS up to something (opening the portals?) and Odin WILL do something to Loki (put him in some Asgardian prison just to need him to lead them to contain Malekith?)
Fogs - 11/14/2012, 9:46 AM
@siggisuperman - true. No need to be dark and gritty all the time. This would make those movies tiring.
dollstix - 11/14/2012, 9:52 AM
Thor was a good film with Asgard looking suitably grand but I still feel the threat on Earth and Thor's redemption were too slight to push the film into the great category. At times it felt like naughty boy has a tantrum, chats up a cute girl and fights a Transformer in a village, seemingly within a week.
It wasn't sturm and drang or epic godlike enough for me.
FirstAvenger - 11/14/2012, 10:40 AM
I want to see what Odin does when they are back on Asgard.
evilness - 11/14/2012, 10:50 AM
I'm glad more people are taking note of Hiddleston's excellent performance since the Avengers. Coming out of Thor, I thought he was a phenomenal actor. But many disagreed.

Love that he had the chance to shine.

I also love how he actually seems to care about his character. Unlike Portman and Weaving who behave like they're "too good" for this.

tom hiddleston can do know wrong in my eyes.loki is the best villain performance in the marvel cinematic universe.

will he still be after thor the dark world, hard to say with kingsley as the mandarin & eccleston as malekith the accursed.
sikwon - 11/14/2012, 3:31 PM
The earth scenes looked fake, the warriors 3 looked goofy. Other then that 5hor was pretty good. If Alan Taylor can bring ANY of his Game of Thrones magic to The Dark World then it will be amazing. Captain America and Thor both felt like they werent quite professional, like the production, director, everything, was a bit sub par. That wont be the case with the sequals. People that are hanndeling a billion dollar property will damn sure take care of it.
Funsize - 11/14/2012, 3:44 PM
Class act Loki has spoken!!! Cant wait to see what theyre doing with him in the sequel!! After the Joker, hes definately my favorite cbm villain!!!
ThePowerCosmic - 11/14/2012, 10:02 PM
Wow lots of Thor haters in this thread. I thought the first film was perfect. I loved the humor and all the great marvel universe connections. It was my favorite film of phase one besides Avengers and IM. I liked all the stuff on earth too, it was great storytelling.

Same with the Cap movie. I thought that film was everything it was supposed to be. It was very true to the source material. All the Marvel films have been dead on to me so far.
breakUbatman - 11/14/2012, 10:36 PM
I liked Thor but it was in no way perfect, earth was boring and the Destroyer got owned by Thor way too easily. Also for such a quality cast we didn't get much out of them, Portman was disappointing, Russo had one scene and Hopkins was asleep the whole time. Plus that whole if you ever need my help scene with Coulson was tacked on just because.

The Joutenheim battle was awesome, more warriors three please and more Sif. Screw Earth -Asgard or bust!

As for Loki's puny God moment in Avengers I hate it, the sigh at the end made it feel like Loony Toons. On top of that Loki was smart enough to use projections on Frost Giants and his brother, was smart enough to unleash the monster on the hellicarrier but decides to debate the Hulk - disrespect.

Anyways looking forward to this the most out of Phase 2

I wonder how Dr Strange will be introduced in Thor 2 since the eye of aggamotto is in Asgard Odins vault
