Hugo Weaving Says He Didn't Care for Transformers

Weaving, the voice of Megatron admits that he didn't care for the role

The actor states that he hasn't even read the script for any of the films, also claiming that he didn't do much preparation for the character. Talking with The Hollywood Reporter saying:

"It was one of the only things I’ve ever done where I had no knowledge of it, I didn’t care about it, I didn’t think about it," the English actor said. "They wanted me to do it. In one way, I regret that bit. I don’t regret doing it, but I very rarely do something if it’s meaningless. It was meaningless to me, honestly. I don’t mean that in any nasty way. I did it."

Read the full chat at The Hollywood Reporter. This shouldn't be a surprise since his comments on the Red Skull where similar. What do you guys think of this? Even though Megatron got killed off in the last film it's a possibility he could come back for a new character role, who knows. Sound off with your thoughts below.

Atleast he's honest.
jessepostal - 10/16/2012, 4:07 PM
Big ahole, what did he do, 2 days of work on each movie?? He didn't have that many lines.
XxComablackxX1937 - 10/16/2012, 4:08 PM
I didn't care for Transformers either Hugo.
HavocPrime - 10/16/2012, 4:15 PM
Weaving does sound somewhat bitter in his latest comments, hope he doesn't feel the same way about the Hobbit and LOTR
Kovacs - 10/16/2012, 4:21 PM
Seems to be the general consensus of the films anyway so...
FanboyTrump - 10/16/2012, 4:52 PM

I wouldn't care about my character either if they looked all "Road Warrior" in the third movie.
nowtheresaBATman - 10/16/2012, 5:33 PM
Captain America was boring & ironicly I liked Red Skull the best.

Transformers was underwhelming but his voice work for Megatron was one of the best things about the movies. It sounded genuinely scary.

Dude, quotation marks when quoting. Thx.
Genaro - 10/16/2012, 5:48 PM
I would be honored to voice Megatron, so un-humble.
D117 - 10/16/2012, 5:48 PM
@sciencefriction Happy now?
MRgimp - 10/16/2012, 6:14 PM
Kinda not looking forward to reading anything he says about Elrond...seems like a prissy asshole.
buzzman - 10/16/2012, 6:19 PM
Seriously - I think he takes himself a bit too seriously. There are tons of folks out there that would kill to have a smidgeon of the time that he gets on the silver screen.
SwingsetKnight - 10/16/2012, 6:33 PM
Neither this nor the Red Skull comment is really unexpected. Weaving has been saying he wants out of/doesn't relate to big studio films at pretty much every con this year. I don't think we can theorize on the reasons for it. Maybe he's a pretentious douchebag, sure, but it's equally possible that he's just really sick of blockbusters. He's done a number of them now with little recognition save for how evil he sounds.

I dunno. I guess until he outright says "fah. Comic book movies? What lowbrow trash. I would never sully my artiste's eyes with such pedestrian fare", I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he's just another in a long line of actors who "prefers indie films", and he's just not terribly good at expressing it.
marvel72 - 10/16/2012, 7:14 PM
i think i've heard something like this before about transformers from weaving.
Koala0226 - 10/16/2012, 7:38 PM
He has no knowledge of transformers? What childhood did he have...
marvelstudios - 10/16/2012, 7:43 PM
Hugo is Australian, isn't he?
Jollem - 10/16/2012, 8:34 PM
in an interview quite some time ago, mr. weaving expressed that he didn't really care for doing summer blockbuster popcorn-type movies and doesn't want to be known specifically for them
AmazingFantasy - 10/16/2012, 10:22 PM
Happy11 - 10/16/2012, 10:56 PM
I didn't care for it either
Gamma022 - 10/16/2012, 11:05 PM
Hugo is Australian not English.
Viral - 10/17/2012, 12:31 AM
Well it's normal. He is doing only voice acting and his line are not much. For a few hours job it's normal not to care.
D117 - 10/17/2012, 1:09 AM
Actually he's both English and Australian
gmoney0505 - 10/17/2012, 1:42 AM
Just seems he doesn't like to do underwritten characters. Seems he should read scripts before he take on the characters. Maybe he just like to get the checks.
hellfire - 10/17/2012, 6:09 AM
I think he's just your typical actor who, when not stretched or pushed by a role they have no real love for it. He's not an @sshole just an honest and talented actor.

As far as his nationality he was born in Ibadan, Nigeria, to English parents. They then were back and forth between UK and Austrailia
AlSimmons - 10/17/2012, 8:32 AM
I didn't like it either, Hugo. Your Megatron was a pussy anyway. The best Megatron I've seen is the one from Prime.
onwardpilgrim - 10/17/2012, 9:41 AM
He should donate the money he made from these movies to charity. That would give some meaning to the roles. "Hey i was totally unsatisfied doing that part but i contributed the money to a good cause" Other wise dont complain about your job that you get paid millions of dollars for.
Ancar - 10/17/2012, 11:03 AM
He's right! There's nothing special in those jobs. I can do the same voice he did in the three films.

The producers only invited him because his respect as a serious actor, nothing more!
Floke - 10/17/2012, 10:46 PM
The Queen of the desert has spoken..
SupermanReturns2 - 10/25/2012, 7:52 PM
You're right, he's not an asshole...

He's a beeyatch! Took the money didn't he? He can say whatever he wants now it's over. When they were printing the check that fugger was all in with it! Fug HUBLO. He'll be replaced by better voice artists for less friggin' money.
He can try and be a serious actor and all but with a puss like his, he's about suited for V For Vendetta or Red Skull in the first place.
