Michael Bay Confirms Plans For New TRANSFORMERS Trilogy; Epic New Grimlock Still Released

Michael Bay confirms that Transformers: Age of Extinction is indeed the first part of a new trilogy, and addresses everything from Grimlock's origin story to the big screen debut of Lockdown and the decision to not bring back Shia Labeouf. Check it out!

"It’s kind of like a new Transformers," Michael Bay told Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview. "We had three, the first trilogy, and this is going to be the next one." When asked to clarify whether or not he was referring to the next trilogy or simply the next movie, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles producer revealed: "Yeah, it’s the first of a new trilogy. I’m not necessarily sure that I’m doing [the others], but that’s what it’s meant for."

Now, as you can see from the epic new still above, the Dinobot known as Grimlock looks set to be a major new addition to the Transformers franchise. However, Bay wouldn't reveal just how much of his origin story will make it into this live action adaptation. "I like to keep things very much in the dark," he teased. "But yes, you’ll understand why they’re there when you see the movie. If you think I’m supposed to give away a lot of story points? No way! Keep it secret." However, the site does reveal that he'll be, "150 feet long from tail to nostrils, 63.5 feet tall from the ground to the top of his horns, and weigh 850 tons."

Bay then went on to talk about a Transformer who is neither Autobot or Decepticon, but is instead a bounty hunter named Lockdown, whose alternate form is a Lamborghini Aventador. "Lockdown is an interesting character. He travels the galaxy, he works for somebody else. And he’s here for one person, one alien, and then he’s out of here," Bay revealed. "So he doesn’t really want to take sides. The cause and balance of the galaxy is kind of messed up when different species play with different species. And that opens up a whole other gigantic world for Transformers. Lockdown’s ship has a lot of meaning that can go into other movies. There’s a lot of backstory about that ship that’s not laid out here. You’re going to see a few things where you’re like ‘What is that? And what is that?’ And you’re going to see a couple shots like, ‘Wait a minute, who are they?’ But we don’t answer those questions."

Finally, talk turned to what led to Shia Labeouf not returning for this fourth movie. "It’s all good. He’s a good guy, but three movies, the same guy, it’s time, you know what I’m saying? It’s always good to freshen it up and change the story." Bay then went on to insist that the eccentric actor wasn't fired; the director just felt like it was time for some fresh blood. "No, no it was mutual. He only wanted to do three, and I think that’s all. Then I pulled Mark into this after Pain & Gain, because we had a great time working together."

Highflyer - 4/11/2014, 1:10 PM
I'm not disappointed but I'm not jumping for joy either.

JoJo1982 - 4/11/2014, 1:15 PM

DrDoom - 4/11/2014, 1:16 PM
I remember when he said that 4 was going to be the last one.

NiklanderReborn - 4/11/2014, 1:17 PM
Well I never understood the hate towards the movies sure the second was stupid beyond belief but 1 and 3 were ok solid action flicks just like the series
NiklanderReborn - 4/11/2014, 1:18 PM
@DrDoom didn't he say the last one for him to direct?!
TheRationalNerd - 4/11/2014, 1:18 PM
I'm all for it just as long as we see the transformers venture into space again!
MrSotoMan - 4/11/2014, 1:18 PM
In all honesty, and this is probably the last time I comment on Transformers, I am completely done.

Just done. Not because of Bay, or how played out the idea is, but the movies in general are tiring. I've literally just given up and lost any hope towards watching another Transformers movie in theaters. It's not that I hate it, but they are just not interesting when you have Marvel movies, DC movies in the future, not to mention other movies in the pipeline that are far more interesting than Transformers can offer.

It just has gotten to the point of boredom that I can not go on with these movies. Even if a new director steps in, it wouldn't matter because of the producer on board is going to watch his ideal look of Transformers implemented in every single movie in the new trilogy.

I'm pretty much done and over with it. It was great as a kid and if I was still 14 I would love all these movies, probably would of watched at midnight, but now. Goodbye Transformers, good luck with this new trilogy that will be sure to ruin many other fans perception of what a good Transformers will be. Godspeed.

@0megaDaGod- Oh my god.........you've read my article from years ago haven't you.......

Michael Bay is honestly the only one who can bring Power Rangers to justice on the big screen. Stereotype characters, explosions, having new trilogies, the villains, it would be a great thing, if not EXCELLENT thing if he ever did Power Rangers.

@0megaDaGod- It does entirely, whats funny is that I discussed this with my brother last week, a giant Power Ranger fan and even though he was skeptical, he had to think about it and realized it is a good idea.

Also the die hard purists Power Ranger fans hate the idea of a PG-13 Power Ranger movie, but phuck em, I think it needs to be done. I think everything about Power Rangers is aged, and a PG-13 has proven with cartoon shows or just live-action tv shows aimed at children won't change anything. I feel it is time to take them seriously though.

Pretty much exactly what MrSotoMan just wrote. Well said!

The very 1st Transformers movie pretty much nailed the tone the series should've had, but the films just got progressively worse and worse and worse. What's that saying, "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me"...I have no idea what it would be for the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th times.

Yet people just keep on going to the theaters and forking over their cash for more mindless, poorly directed, usually offensive action films that are just an excuse for a grown man to live out his pre-pubescent fantasies. Says a lot about people, doesn't it? Safe to say I'm done with these movies too.
MrSotoMan - 4/11/2014, 1:30 PM
If only Platnium Dunes would buy Power Rangers we might one day get this as a cinematic universe
Pheezmatic - 4/11/2014, 1:30 PM
@Omega @Soto Holy shit! I think you guys are onto something!!

That's like taking two ugly people and having them mate to breed a beautiful baby!!

HelaGood - 4/11/2014, 1:31 PM
hell no
CaptainObvious - 4/11/2014, 1:32 PM
Please leave and take your racist, misogynistic tendencies with you.
Gusto - 4/11/2014, 1:32 PM
I didn't hate the first 3 as
much as some seem too.
But, yeah...time to move on, man.
MrSotoMan - 4/11/2014, 1:33 PM
@Pheezmatic- I'm telling you, Bay is golden for Power Rangers, incredibly golden!
TheOzmaofOz - 4/11/2014, 1:35 PM
We're throwing the term "epic" around too much at this point.
RexDartEskimoSpy - 4/11/2014, 1:37 PM
You’re going to see a few things where you’re like ‘What is that? And what is that?’ And you’re going to see a couple shots like, ‘Wait a minute, who are they?

Dude, you just described the entirety of the last two movies. "Everything's just a big CG blur. What the fvck is happening? Where does one robot end and the next begin?"
Gusto - 4/11/2014, 1:37 PM
Let's get an NC-17 Power Rangers!

NiklanderReborn - 4/11/2014, 1:37 PM
^^^I concur Bay should direct Power Rangers the explosions will be badass
9gag:

(via 9GAG - Oh Power Rangers)
monkeyballs - 4/11/2014, 1:38 PM
The firstone was ok. Good spectacle. But overall it was underwhelming and 2 and 3 were possibly the worst big blockbusters in recent memory.

And the dinobots don't look "epic". They look boring. All silver/metal looking. no color.

PS. Gusto likes any movie that packs a theater full of kiddies and man babies.
monkeyballs - 4/11/2014, 1:38 PM
Gusto, are those dude rangers?
DEATHbyEXILE - 4/11/2014, 1:38 PM
DarthBatman - 4/11/2014, 1:39 PM

I heard that this is the last one he's directing. 5 and 6 will have a new director
UltimateHunt - 4/11/2014, 1:40 PM
I need my EW copy
CorndogBurglar - 4/11/2014, 1:41 PM
Bay needs to be careful that LaBoof doesn't go on to write some crappy graphic novel called "Robot-Changer-Guys". A story about transforming robots from outer space that come to Earth to find a transforming triangle that was used to create their race.
UltimateHunt - 4/11/2014, 1:41 PM
Not bad, kind of Snyder I wish he could do dragon ball z xD.
PowerRangers Bay will be interesting
Platinum - 4/11/2014, 1:41 PM
I wouldn't mind seeing Michael Bay directing a Power Rangers movie. It suits him better.

I still love the 90's movie though.

Scorpion8125 - 4/11/2014, 1:42 PM
Pure garbage for kids and the weak minded.

But as long as they pull in a billion bux per movie, this sh!t will continue forever.

BubSnikt - 4/11/2014, 1:44 PM

If you were 14 you would NOT like these movies. I was 9 when the first movie came out and I didn't like it
MrSotoMan - 4/11/2014, 1:47 PM
@BubSnikt- I was 14 when the first movie came out, and I loved it.

After that every movie is pretty much the same fiasco.
Baconman21 - 4/11/2014, 1:47 PM
Micheal bay needs to take over for the G.I. joe movie series. It only makes sense. Him doing power rangers would be awesome
