CONFIRMED: Garrett Hedlund to Star in TRON 3

CONFIRMED: Garrett Hedlund to Star in TRON 3

The third Tron movie gained a screenwriter last week, and now it has officially regained its star as Hedlund confirmed during press for On The Road that he'll be back to traverse the grid one more time.

Our friends over at have the exclusive word from Garrett Hedlund himself. Hedlund played Sam Flynn in "TRON: Legacy"

"Yeah," Hedlund said when we pressed him for details on his "Tron" participation while doing press in New York ahead of the U.S. release of "On the Road." "Are we gonna break this now?"

"Disney's very excited," he said of the project. "That's about that. You know, yeah, I'm very excited, Disney's very excited."

Jesse Wigutow is in negotiations to write the script, and "TRON: Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski is returning to helm the 3rd film.

Rumored but still unofficial is that production may begin in 2014.

... Okay...

Still, no one is anticipating this.
SuperDude001 - 12/13/2012, 11:03 AM
Could be cool...don't see where they'd really go story-wise but sure I liked the second one so I'll give it a chance.
BobGarlen - 12/13/2012, 11:04 AM
Awesome News very excited
Nick56 - 12/13/2012, 11:04 AM

JatevinM - 12/13/2012, 11:04 AM
I am really excited about this because I enjoyed Tron Legacy. I really hope they find a way to bring Jeff Bridges and Michael Sheen back.
BIGBMH - 12/13/2012, 11:07 AM
That probably makes it less likely that he will be in Guardians of the Galaxy.
supermarioworldE - 12/13/2012, 11:13 AM
Unless Tron has a significant role this time around, I could care less.
thewonderer - 12/13/2012, 11:14 AM
Legacy was a good fun movie, actually a lot like the Avengers. Story wasn't anything special at all, but the effects were spectacular.

Looking forward to 3
MutantEquality - 12/13/2012, 11:14 AM

TheManWithBigEars - 12/13/2012, 11:14 AM
I know Im in the minority but I really liked the film
Fair enough, the story wasn't incredible, but the visuals were n it was fun n entertaining, thats more than I can say 4 'Prometheus'
I just hope whenever Green Lantern gets the reboot, they take page out of 'Tron' 4 it...
PaulRom - 12/13/2012, 11:16 AM
Definitely looking forward to this. Legacy was quite good.
ComicBookGoth - 12/13/2012, 11:16 AM
i guess we're excited
BatSupe3 - 12/13/2012, 11:24 AM
Depending on how uprising ends, I want Elijah Wood to be in it as Beck. It would be awesome to see Tron, Beck, and Sam team up to take down Dillinger Jr. and his program!
maxleresistant - 12/13/2012, 11:29 AM
what I didn't understand about this movie, is that all the characters are saying that the tron world is amazing and limitless and all that stuff. And all I see is a shitty technofuturistic place, with blue neons and lots of rocks and pale people with even whiter clothes.
This place just looks awful and bland, I would prefer to have my summer vacation into Mordor.
DaenerysTargaryen - 12/13/2012, 11:33 AM
No shock there
HelaGood - 12/13/2012, 11:33 AM
i am overwhelmed with meh...
thewonderer - 12/13/2012, 11:34 AM
Do any of you watch Tron Uprising?

Its actually really good, I hope Becks in the next one
maxleresistant - 12/13/2012, 11:37 AM
@Intruder, I liked the Daft Punk score too, but everybody hoped an experimental, electro score that will blow our mind.
Instead of that, they used the occasion to say "look, we can use strings too and do what every movie composer do"
What a waste...
StormLoganSummers - 12/13/2012, 11:41 AM
There was a TRON 2?

Hopefully this time he wont act like the hip cool jock guy with a chip on his shoulder. Seriously they tried to make him act to cool.

Cillian Murphy will be back...for starters he begged Disney for a cameo for the first one...second, when Alan takes over the board in the bonus features he makes a comment like "the Dillinger kid stays, he earned his place." Or something like that...third, this film is going to be awesome. Tron Legacy was great...they're going to probably try and bring back Flynn somehow. Tron is still alive...but Gem (Beau Garrett's character) was killed along with Castor, so maybe they'll do a system reboot or something and bring back some of the dead characters.
reverendjonnynemo - 12/13/2012, 12:07 PM
THIS!!! I want to see THIS!!!
Quasimodo - 12/13/2012, 12:11 PM

Can't favorite franchise.
MutantEquality - 12/13/2012, 1:32 PM
I dont know about you guys but I have been jamming to electronica since I read this news. My thoughts on the other hand have been....slightly distracted

beane2099 - 12/13/2012, 2:15 PM
I'm on board for this. There's a lot of potential for this. I'll be disappointed if we don't see Jeff Bridges return though.
DukeAcureds - 12/13/2012, 2:32 PM
Look, I loved Tron Legacy as much as the next guy. As far as I'm concerned that movie was sent down from geek paradise as an exclusive trewasure for the geekly initiated. But on eof the things that was so good about it was that it ended so perfectly. The Grid is down, forever and Olivia Wilde's character is in the real world and will radicalise science/ religion/ etc. And that smile, when she saw the sunrise and was with the man she loved, made it one of the most emotionally satisfying endings to any film ever.
It does not need a sequel.
A sequel would kinda ruin it.
Bread - 12/13/2012, 3:00 PM
CANNOT WAIT!! I loved Legacy!
DioFoRio - 12/13/2012, 3:52 PM

glad this dude isn't gonna be Star
Thegeekygurl - 12/13/2012, 4:06 PM
Garrett Hedlund's hair looked so bad in Legacy I kept looking for proof it was a hairpiece.
DukeAcureds - 12/13/2012, 4:49 PM
KamenRider@ I know and there's the cartoon, too, Tron Uprising and all that jazz, but still, that's okay 'cause that's just extending the concept and the mythology, but a film would be like nailed on to the main canon. If it were a good film at all, then I would be compelled to watch it after watching the first two and it would water down the ending of the second one. I dunno. I guess there gonna do it anyway, right? They're not gonna just go "Oh, wait that Duke Acureds guy on keeps posting that it's a bad idea, lets cancel the whole project!", so I may as wel just hope for thebest. And more Olivia Wilde.
Funsize - 12/13/2012, 5:51 PM
cool movie hope they bring back daft punk
Gamma022 - 12/13/2012, 6:20 PM
I will not bother to see it if this guy isn't in it.
norseman79 - 12/13/2012, 6:26 PM
Guess I missed the announcement of the second one.

I'm down for this though. As long as we get more Olivia. She was hot in the first one.
mgeoff88 - 12/13/2012, 7:09 PM
I'm glad he's coming back. I hope that means Olivia Wilde is returning too.

I really liked her character, and well, she's Oilvia Wilde. She makes any movie she's in that much better.

The passionate and unselfish things I would do to her...
gaikinger - 12/14/2012, 5:15 AM
so much win
pepe - 12/14/2012, 7:41 AM
