Movie Based On DEAD RISING Video Game Series In The Works At Legendary Pictures

Legendary Pictures have today announced that they are moving ahead with a big screen adaptation of Dead Rising, the popular video game franchise which could just be the perfect launching pad for a new series of zombie movies. Hit the jump for further details...

It has been revealed today that Legendary Pictures are financing and producing a movie based on the video game, Dead Rising. Crackle will distribute the film, while Content Media will sell the international rights. Tim Carter has been tapped to pen the screenplay, while Transformers' Lorenzo di Bonaventura is set to exectutive produce. Carter will also produce the movie alongside Tomas Harlan, and their company, Contradiction Films, actually produced Mortal Kombat: Legacy, another video game adaptation. Dead Rising is described as being set during a zombie outbreak, as four characters must outrun the disease's spread and search for its origins. "We are excited to be working with Legendary and Lorenzo, who have both created immersive properties for fans around the world," Carter and Harlan said in a statement. "As avid players of the game, we're extremely thrilled to take the popular franchise that millions have embraced and give them the opportunity to experience it on a new platform." What do you think?

Gotta see a trailer before I decide if I'm going to see this or not.

I'm all for zombies but "four characters must outrun the disease's spread and search for its origins" makes me think of left 4 dead instead of dead rising. I still wanna see this but I'm just hoping its set in the mall, frank the photographer is the main star, he combines certain weapons, uses the showerhead on a zombie and blood shoots out of it, and there's loads of Capcom references like the megaman blaster or the tron bon minion mask.

But Dead Rising got sued by the company that made the newer Dawn of the Dead movie because it was too similar.

Bruce Campbell for Frank West!
JillyMcBeam - 6/19/2014, 7:21 PM
I would only watch this for one actor.
Batmantis - 6/19/2014, 7:40 PM

Also, Why?
TheGreenBastard - 6/19/2014, 7:40 PM
Make a Left 4 Deas movie. Not a lot of story restrictions, and it's a better game.

Another Capcom Zombie game heading to the big screen... hopefully this is better than Resident Evil
eleven59 - 6/19/2014, 7:53 PM

Zombies? Cap com? Movie? Maybe they'll call it.. Resident evil: dead rising
TheGreenBastard - 6/19/2014, 7:59 PM
Resident Evil 1 was a decent flick, for what it was. It's the sequels that shit on people's view.
BubblesShedAndBreakfast - 6/19/2014, 8:01 PM
Video game horror movies make some money. Sadly they usually butcher the story.
TheGreenBastard - 6/19/2014, 8:01 PM
[frick] this shit! If I see another ad with Ross from Friends on it, I'm gonna lose it. That douchey character had a huge hand it the perception of how man should act these days. Vulnerable, sensitive, and clueless.
DefcoN - 6/19/2014, 8:08 PM
Could work, the game is really entertaining, but I'm actually more interested in The Last of Us movie
fettastic - 6/19/2014, 8:19 PM
ONly played the first Dead Rising game and it was just like Dawn of the Dead. I agree Left 4 Dead is a better pick.

Also, [frick] Crackle.

@ ManCalledSting

The sad thing is the Resident Evil movies in Japan are more popular than the Avengers. That's why Capcom was trying to make the games more like the movie.
TheGreenBastard - 6/19/2014, 8:48 PM
Demegod: RE2 is my favorite game to date. It's sad to see that happen.
maninfinesuit - 6/19/2014, 9:27 PM
He's covered wars, you know.
maninfinesuit - 6/19/2014, 9:29 PM
And seriously, get Bruce Campbell on this as Frank. Out the door, this has niche-y cult classic written all over it. Bruce is the perfect man for the job.
mgeoff88 - 6/19/2014, 10:02 PM
Oh wow, I had a lot of fun with the first two DR games. I haven't played the third one yet.

If this movie follows the video games closely(unlike the RE movies...), this could turn out great.

"As avid players of the game, we're extremely thrilled to take the popular franchise that millions have embraced and give them the opportunity to experience it on a new platform."

They had me at avid players.
loki668 - 6/19/2014, 10:25 PM
Well, Uwe Boll could use the work, I guess.

When are we going to get that gritty re-imagining of Tetris that we've been waiting for?

Why isnt there a tv show or film being developed and based on The Elder Scrolls? Seriously, Skyrim is amazing and would be great for tv or film adaptation and it has a popular following.
DaniDeSanta - 6/20/2014, 12:31 AM
Very excited! Also, you guys are right: BRUCE CAMPBELL SHOULD BE CAST AS FRANK WEST!

SimyJo - 6/20/2014, 4:46 AM
Lets face it.... can't be any worse than than the shitty Hollywood adaptation of World War Z

CyberBishop - 6/20/2014, 5:47 AM
As long as it is not rated PG and has some good gore and blood it might be decent.
Carl - 6/20/2014, 5:52 AM

Niklander - 6/20/2014, 6:53 AM

Yazuka - 6/20/2014, 12:39 PM
