PIXELS: Pac-Man, Donkey Kong & Many More Video Game Characters Announced

Classic video game characters are attacking Earth and it is up to Peter Dinklage ("Game of Thrones"), Josh Gad ("Frozen") and Adam Sandler ("Just Go With It") to defeat them with their video game skills. Come see which video game characters they'll fight.

Sony Pictures Entertainment have issued a press release for Pixels that includes the official cast of characters as well as the first synopsis.
Sony Pictures Entertainment announced today that the studio has brought together an extraordinary number of iconic video game companies, whose classic characters – including PAC-MAN, Donkey Kong, Centipede®, Galaga, Frogger, Q*bert, and Space Invaders – will be featured in the highly-anticipated action comedy Pixels, starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Michelle Monaghan, Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad, and Brian Cox, and directed by Chris ColumbusThe film will be released on May 15, 2015.

In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war against them, they attack the Earth, using the games as models for their various assaults.  President Will Cooper (James) has to call on his childhood best friend, '80s video game champion Sam Brenner (Sandler), now a home theater installer, to lead a team of old-school arcaders (Dinklage and Gad) to defeat the aliens and save the planet.  Monaghan plays the team's unique weapons specialist.  The action-comedy is directed by Chris Columbus from a story by Tim Herlihy and a screenplay by Tim Herlihy and Timothy Dowling, based on the original short film of the same name by Patrick Jean.  The film is produced by Adam Sandler, Chris Columbus, Mark Radcliffe, and Allen Covert.  Executive Producers are Barry Bernardi, Michael Barnathan, Jack Giarraputo, Heather Parry, Tim Herlihy, Steve Koren, Patrick Jean, Benjamin Darras, Johnny Alves, Matias Boucard, Seth Gordon, and Ben Waisbren.  The film, a Columbia Pictures presentation in association with LStar Capital, is a Happy Madison / 1492 Films production in association with One More Production.

Companies with classic arcade games that are teaming with Sony Pictures on the film include:

  • Atari® Interactive: (Asteroids®, Breakout®, Centipede® and Missile Command®)
  • Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd. (Frogger)
  • BANDAI NAMCO Games Inc. (PAC-MAN, Galaga, and Dig Dug)
  • Nintendo (Donkey Kong)
  • Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc. (Q*bert)
  • Taito Corporation (Space Invaders)
  • Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (Joust, Defender, Robotron and Wizard of Wor)

The movie is based on Patrick Jean’s short film, which you can view below.

Q*bert! Wow, been a long time since I last played that.

Hopefully this turns out well, has potential. Be cool to see even things like Pong used, believe the short film did.

Adam Sandler is in this, officially making it a terrible film, regardless of your belief system or moral code. Adam Sandler hasn't made a decent movie in years.
Pasto - 7/21/2014, 12:16 PM
Master Chief better be [frick]ing in there dammit!
MightOfMagneto - 7/21/2014, 12:23 PM
Adam Sandler should join the MCU family.
Reasonnnn - 7/21/2014, 12:34 PM
Sounds like a Sandler movie that is actually watchable, even if it's a live-action version of WRECK-IT RALPH

Looks like a good time but i dont watch Sandler movies.
Calder027 - 7/21/2014, 12:40 PM
WB will be watching this movie very closely as they own the rights to Ready Player One. This Pixel movie will be a litmus test to make sure it can be done (though I feel RPO will be a logistical nightmare when it comes to licensing...). I like the concept of this though... just not sold on Sandler...
TragicBronson - 7/21/2014, 12:42 PM
Wow. Not bad. I'll watch anything with Peter Dinklage. I hope this doesn't contain the humor of Grown ups or Grown ups 2.
SusanFuentes - 7/21/2014, 12:42 PM
The short film was great, but I have a feeling the movie will end up falling flat based on Sandler's involvement alone.
Platinum - 7/21/2014, 12:42 PM
So it's a ripoff of that video game invasion episode of Futurama?
NovaCorpsFan - 7/21/2014, 12:43 PM
That short was rather odd.
gulducati - 7/21/2014, 12:48 PM
The big question is why didn't WB just make this film instead of Sony? They are on that list and they have a film division.
SychoSid85 - 7/21/2014, 12:49 PM
Calder: I'm never sold on Sandler.
micvalpro - 7/21/2014, 12:51 PM
Qbert was in wreck it ralph. What a whore
Calder027 - 7/21/2014, 12:53 PM
@mancalledsting neither am I, with his more recent movies. But then you think back to Happy Gilmour, Big Daddy, Wedding Singer and Billy Madison and you have a slight hope he may still have it...
SychoSid85 - 7/21/2014, 12:54 PM
Michele Monaghan is so vey sexy.
SychoSid85 - 7/21/2014, 12:55 PM
I'll give you Happy Gilmore, and maybe Billy Madison, but he's meet been my cup of tea, going back to his MTV and SNL days.
MisterNiceGuy - 7/21/2014, 1:05 PM
People still watch Adam sandler movies on purpose?
MisterHolmes - 7/21/2014, 1:12 PM

Odin - 7/21/2014, 2:18 PM
I would like to excited for this, but I just that Adam Sandler's annoying...entity will drag the film down for me.
BubblesShedAndBreakfast - 7/21/2014, 2:54 PM
Adam Sandler and Kevin James just made me want to skip out on this movie.
jmartinez986 - 7/21/2014, 3:55 PM
talk about copy and paste!
Nick56 - 7/21/2014, 4:02 PM
This movie sounds awesome
LoudLon - 7/21/2014, 4:14 PM
I'll watch it for one reason, and one reason only -- Peter Dinklage. That guy's so damn good that when he's on-screen, you forget he's a dwarf. It just doesn't even register because he encompasses his characters so damned well. Add him to a movie and it automatically ups the flick's cred.
riseofloganX36 - 7/21/2014, 5:45 PM
i dont get it
RobertLiefeld - 7/21/2014, 7:53 PM
At least it is not Jack and Jill 2....
Orehrepus - 7/21/2014, 11:33 PM
It features classic video game characters I loved as a kid.
I like Kevin James and love Adam Sandler on every SINGLE shit each one appeared on.
Michelle Monaghan is so adorable I could cuddle the [frick] out of her 3 times 24 hours straight without doing nothing else.

And Chris Columbus never failed me before.

So, yeah, I'm sold.
DukeAcureds - 7/22/2014, 4:27 AM
Who Framed Roger Rabbit? for video games.
pestulio07 - 7/22/2014, 11:46 AM
Let's not throw the words "highly anticipated" around so liberally when including Kevin James and Adam Sandler...just sayin'
