While we still don't have a Release Date or many details, the first five screenshots have hit for WB Gaming's upcoming Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor, featuring some amazing graphics, "Wraith Abilities" and some lovely looking Orcs. Hit the Jump and get your first glimpse at the game!

Shadow of Mordor casts you as a ranger named Talion, whose family was slain by Sauron's armies. Having been killed himself, he's resurrected with "Wraith abilities", and is ready to take on the hordes of Mordor.

In development for PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC at Monolith, the studio behind Guardians of Middle-Earth, Shadow of Mordor is set between the events of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

Boy: *calls 911* Hello? I need your help!
911: Alright, What is it?
Boy: Two girls are fighting over me!
911: So what's your emergency?
Boy: The ugly one is winning.

Why can't we just get a game that follows the entire adventure of the fellowship on the new tech? I just had a movie with expanded universe bullcrap...
chewish - 12/17/2013, 10:10 AM
Looks pretty cool, although I was waiting for the announcement of a Radagast bunny-sled racing game...
OnePunchBaldy - 12/17/2013, 10:13 AM
Is it a hack and slash? If so then I'M IN
Ramiel - 12/17/2013, 10:25 AM
Sucks that you can't play a wizard.
ckal - 12/17/2013, 10:30 AM
So next gen.

FerFogs - 12/17/2013, 10:36 AM
I'm feeling this game will be shitty. Too many lore deviations. And I don't consider myself a purist.
FerFogs - 12/17/2013, 10:38 AM
'...he's resurrected with "Wraith abilities"'

[frick] that.

From Tolkien's Legendarium:

"Unlike death for Elves, death for Men is a 'true death.' Their fëar actually do pass beyond the confines of the world. When a Man dies, it is thought that his fëa goes to the halls of Mandos just as the fëar of the Elves, but the place it goes is separate from that which is prepared for the Elves. The fëa may linger for a time, but will eventually leave the world entirely. Neither Men nor Elves know where the fëar of Men go after leaving Arda."

Give me a new RTS on PC.
r4dagast - 12/17/2013, 10:49 AM
And one giant third person action/rpg that follows the story from start to finish that doesn't suck.
ATOwens - 12/17/2013, 10:50 AM
Such graphics. Much orcs. Very next-gen. Wow.
CaptainAmerica31 - 12/17/2013, 10:56 AM
I would love a hobbit game or LOTR trilogy game or RPG within the universe
TheAstoundingMan - 12/17/2013, 11:03 AM

"Neither Men nor Elves know where the fëar of Men go after leaving Arda"

Sort of playing devil's advocate here, simply because I want to give this game a chance, but maybe it isn't a Man or an Elf that brings him back?

On an unrelated note, is that the ruins of Barad-dûr in the far left of the third image? It doesn't fit with the setting obviously, but that place looks like a Mordor that is slowly being reclaimed by nature.
HavocPrime - 12/17/2013, 11:37 AM
Looks interesting, maybe worth a check out
DelTorite - 12/17/2013, 11:48 AM
Bullshit game
Give me Battle of Middle Earth 3, set in the Second Age.
Fracture - 12/17/2013, 11:55 AM
Should at least look like a wraith and not like Aragorn.
FerFogs - 12/17/2013, 1:18 PM
@TheAstoundingMan - dude, not even Sauron, Morgoth or even Manwë knew about the destiny of Men.

@DelTorite - Dude, you just read my mind. Fall of Númenor? What about a 1st Age BFME? War of Wrath? Fall of Gondolin?

That would be supreme.
TheAstoundingMan - 12/17/2013, 4:16 PM
Damn, my limited knowledge of the Tolkien universe is already being pushed beyond its means, so I shall trust your judgement.

I missed my chance to play BFME2, but I occasionally dive into the original even now.

From what I have heard however, EA no longer has the rights to the franchise, and the developer of both games is having enough trouble with Command and Conquer.
MightyZeus - 12/17/2013, 9:27 PM
I'll be sure to play this. It looks interesting and sounds interesting.
Facade - 12/17/2013, 10:34 PM
Looks good.
RetroFit - 12/18/2013, 7:29 AM
So in other words, 'The Force Unleashed' meets Lord of the Rings. I wish they'd do LOTR games that take place in a time period that isn't represented by the movies.
FerFogs - 12/18/2013, 9:46 AM
@TheAstoundingMan - play the 1st BFME Campaign! Now! I wish I could play it for the 1st time again, it was so freakin great.

@RetroFit - Seems like Christopher Tolkien (who's kind of a dick btw) retains the rights for other middle-earth stories, for what I know.
