VIDEO GAMES: GameInformer Podcast Reveals Some Details for BATMAN: ARKHAM KNIGHT

GameInformer has released a special edition podcast in which they talk about Batman: Arkham Knight. They reflect on their own intepretations of the game as well as answering fan questions. Check out the details below!

  • If goons are just a punch away from killing you, the Batmobile can be used as a tool to save your life by scaring the enemy away.
  • Along with tasers, the Batmobile has a projectile weapon that will disable enemy vehicles from driving away.
  • Gotham City is an entirely new map. You will not be able to travel back to the Arkham City section of Gotham.
  • The new grapple gun will launch you longer and faster when gliding.
  • [POTENTIAL SPOILER] Sefton Hill (Director and Writer of Arkham Knight) was asked if the Arkham Knight character is a human. Sefton replied "He certaintly looks human." This could imply that Arkham Knight is robot being controlled remotely by a human.
  • There will not be any civilians on the streets of Gotham, only thugs.
  • You cannot run people over with the Batmobile. When you approach someone, they will dodge out of the way.
  • Thugs will now gather in crowds and start riots that Batman can intervene with.
  • You cannot drive other cars, only the Batmobile.
  • Don't expect to honk any horns while inside the Batmobile.

Sweet! Cant visit Arkhgam City area but the area is 4x larger? Nice detail giving us all new locations :)

I was playing AC4: Black Flag earlier, and I love how the environment feels so alive.

Well, we know for sure we won't get that with this game. Once again, they're going to give us a concrete wasteland full of neon lights and no life.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 3/28/2014, 3:21 PM
There are gonna be hundreds of people on the streets, just none of them are going to be good people.

"There will not be any civilians on the streets of Gotham."

Color me surprised.
Vegeta - 3/28/2014, 3:29 PM
I know, but that doesn't fill the streets with life.

Imagine an AC game with just guards to kill or a GTA game with police on the streets and no civilians? It would feel lifeless, like Arkham City & Origins.

Granted, they could get away with it with Arkham City due to circumstances, but if you're going to give us the 'full' Batman experience, they'd need to give us the full Gotham, and that means creating a living breathing world like so many free roam games have before it.

It's just unacceptable at this point, and quite frankly, I think it's just lazy.

That concept art tho

DaVinci31 - 3/28/2014, 3:32 PM
I heard there's more polygons or some sh*t, within the details of the Arkham Knight Character, than in the whole map of Arkham Asylum.
Tuuralihn - 3/28/2014, 3:52 PM
All the stuff you can't do in this game, you will probably be able to do in the next game.
GuardianAngel - 3/28/2014, 3:53 PM
I'm getting less and less excited for this game. Arkham Asylum is still my favorite of the 3.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 3/28/2014, 3:53 PM
I agree
GuardianAngel - 3/28/2014, 3:53 PM
@Tuuralihn this is the last one.

@Batmaniac- Well didn't the trailer show the civilians evacuating Gotham City? I mean that's a good enough reason not to have the civilians in the game.
Vegeta - 3/28/2014, 4:28 PM
It's more like an excuse not to have civilians in the game.
DangerMan - 3/28/2014, 5:42 PM
When people who die and come back from the dead are technically
Not human..... Sooooooooooo Jay Jay Todd
Is a big possibilty.
And I mean it could always be Talia!
No one said it's a dude.

SuperiorMrGod - 3/28/2014, 5:58 PM

I agree with you a 100%
DrDoom - 3/28/2014, 8:34 PM
The lack of civilians really surprises and frustrates me.
MrSotoMan - 3/28/2014, 11:49 PM
Why should there be civilians looming around Gotham. It's not an excuse it's just what is the point? Batman can save civilians from muggers? Save this person from that person?

I mean the city is going to shit and it's getting evacuated. The one game that should be complained about for not having citizens is Origins, where is the excuse in that, at least Arkham Knight gives you the excuse.

It's not a Spider-Man game, it's a Batman game that has a story signified that the city is going to shit, so having the civilians in the city is not really a big deal or a focus. The main focus of ALL three games was to bring order from chaos.
unknownfacts - 3/29/2014, 4:36 AM
Since the main story time frame usually is one day or night in these games so I can by the no civilian thing now if this was over the course of a week or even months then that would really bother me but to each their own.
Darktower - 3/29/2014, 6:01 AM
Ya i seriously hate the fact about the not civilians on the street thing.... without them... its just not a City!
SimyJo - 3/29/2014, 11:53 AM
Completely agree with BatManiac's opening comment.

Without civilian on the streets there is no-one to rescue, which is a key Batman trait. I want to hear screams coming from down an alley and to be able to stop a mugging and beat the living daylights out of criminals for doing that - or scaring them away before a mugging like in Batman Begins.
