VIDEO GAMES: Sega Loses Its Marvel!

Marvel confirm that they have no future plans to release any games through SEGA, who previously published most of their games, like Iron Man 2, Thor: God of Thunder and Captain America: Super Soldier.

Marvel's vice president of games production TQ Jefferson has confirmed in a recent interview that Marvel have no future plans to release any games published by Sega.

"There are no current plans for additional Marvel games to be published by Sega," he said.

"In my opinion, the biggest afflictions affecting movie-licensed games is the amount of development time and a strict adherence to retelling the story of the film in the form of a game," Jefferson told The Hollywood Reporter. Development cycles for movie tie-ins can be comparatively short, and can't simply retell the same story present in the film on which it's based. "Then you would have a two-hour experience with a bunch of thugs and one boss fight," Jefferson explained.

Perhaps this is more fallout from the success of Arkham City, another nail in the movie tie-in's coffin, or maybe this is just due to the poor standard of Sega's previous attempts. A quick look at their Marvel games Metacritic scores would suggest so.

The percentage of positive reviews for each game in question are as follows: Iron Man (45), Iron Man 2 (41), The Incredible Hulk (55), Captain America: Super Soldier (60), and Thor: God of Thunder (38).

They are mediocre at best, and really repetitive. Ive only played Iron Man and Incredible Hulk, though.

Thank the lord....Sega have been awful, just rushing out terrible movie tie-ins for quick cash. I am hoping Marvel won't just sell all the rights to one company, maybe sell the characters individually to games companies that would best suit each person. So I would think image Thor done by the team behind Skyrim or Iron Man done by the Bungie guys. Think this is a very smart move.

Oh come on, some games were not that bad, right? I mean, for example super soldier was a good game. I enjoyed it :)

Sega had both good and bad games (my personal favorite was RE:CV!)

That's great to hear. I've actually played all those games despite the bad reviews.

Out of all them, CA: Super Soldier was their best effort. That was a pretty good game. I had fun with it.

@JillValenfield Yah, I enjoyed it too. And welcome back btw. :)

@Knightrider They sell the characters to publishers, not developers.

CyberConnect, Capcom, SCEA, Tecmo, Ninja Theory.....
Those guys should get Marvel properties

Just better not be Ultimate Alliance/Xmen Legend game style for the movie games... I like those games in small doses, great cinematics, great stories and characters, repetitive and boring gameplay.... Wolvering good game, but some multiplayer games would be great, get an avengers game made up to be cooperative multiplayer AS WELL as a competitive mode. In the Wolverine style game play, and we have a good time, or free roam like spider-man style avengers game multiplayer coop. BADASS!!! I never played the incredible hulks coop patch that came out afterward, but am really intrigued to play a free roam marvel super hero game cooperatively...

I see Marvel forming it's own video game company or moving all it's properties over to Disney.

Disney likes to have all it's stuff in-house and now that Marvel is out of many of it's contracts watch and see.

Hopefully the recent Batman games gave them an idea of what kind of quality can be associated with their licenses.

I agree with Patriautism that Marvel should go back to Raven to develop their games. Although I did enjoy Captain America: Super Soldier, not the rest of Marvel/Sega games.
