Must admit I'm kind of torn on this one. I do believe WATCHMEN is a masterpiece of the genre and nobody should touch it besides Moore and Gibbons, but on the other hand DC has assembled an amazing line up of talent on these books and it seems like, at least from them that it's coming from a place of love and admiration for the original. I might check it out if I hear good feedback on it, and if it sucks then it doesn't matter because it's just glorified fanfiction anyway. I have such a love for the world and the characters of WATCHMEN that it's hard to not be at least a little interested in this.

I can't wait!!!

"We're definitely not getting any meh on this one" would mean something if it was an original product.
I will boycott all of these forever. I love the guys involved in this, but even they will not make me want to read this.
It is the most sacreligious thing to ever happen in the history of the comic book form.
If this is in your collection, whatsoever, you are shit.

golden123@ You oughta be ashamed of yourself.
Sirwinsalot@ This goes beyond hating. It doesn't matter if they're good, for [frick]s sake. Don't you get Watchmen?! Of course they're gonna be well done, look at the talent.
This is not "controversial", this is wrong. Period.

This is a true test for all of geekdom. Seriously. So many hip fakers over the last ten years. They're all gonna buy this.

@DukeAcureds: If the comics aren't good, then it still won't be affecting the original comic. I love Watchmen, and I'm excited to see other writers tackle the DC owned characters of Watchmen in the near future. I'm interested in their take. I see nothing wrong with my interests. By the way, "sacreligious" is spelled "sacrilegious".

All you people who are against this project really need to get over it. Artists and writers have been taking over other artists and writers characters and materials since the inception of the comic book. Alan Moore and the Watchmen are not above that. The Watchmen, while genius and brilliant is NOT the holy grail, the bible or untouchable in any sense of the words!

While I'm sure this new work will be amazing, even if it isn't how on earth does it change or impact the original material?

Alan Moore and the original Watchmen work is not above other artists taking on this work. It's an insult to the artists who are taking on this project to suggest that Alan Moore's work is so brilliant, no one can touch it.

Give me an 'effing break!!!

i have immense love and respect for Moore & Gibbon's Watchmen as I do for Cooke, my personal favorite storyteller right now. This was a deeply conflicting purchase for me as a result. I gotta tell you, possible bias towards the best of both parties, but it was GREAT.

my only huge problem is that I currently see no reason why it couldn't have just been a new ORIGINAL Cooke story...but he has 5 more issues to prove, plus how many mini-series to show me the big picture
NorrinRaddical - 6/8/2012, 7:39 AM
and one more time, but Cooke's art and story telling are such a refreshing joy. I can't wait until next month (hopefully his 3rd Parker book comes out in the interim!)

@DCF, Were not talking about a long running mainstream character like Batman or Superman that anyone and everyone has taken a turn at reinterpreting here. It's not about thinking Alan Moore's work is so brilliant that it shouldn't touched, but that this is his world that he created. It's Moore's story and he already told it as he saw fit to. At best this can be considered fan fiction without Moore's involvement. High quality fan fiction, but fan fiction nonetheless.

golden123@ You're right. About my spelling. Also, are you Dan Didio?
DCF@ It is above being franchised and it is akin to the Bible and untouchable.
TheDukeofNY@ Yeah. Duke's think alike.

@ DukeAcureds: uh, no.....
thisheart - 6/8/2012, 8:40 PM
DukeAcureds, just did you feel about the movie? Alan Moore was against that too.
