BOX OFFICE: THE WOLVERINE Becomes The 19th Movie Of 2013 To Pass $100M Domestically

It took a little over two weeks, but James Mangold's The Wolverine has become only the 19th movie of 2013 to reach the elusive $100 million mark at the North American box office. A sequel is thankfully looking highly likely now. Hit the jump for further details!

After earning $2.84 million at the North American box office yesterday, James Mangold's The Wolverine has managed to reach the elusive $100 million. While we don't have the most up to date international numbers, it's believed that the movie has so far made upwards of $160 million. Add that to its domestic take and The Wolverine has easily made back its $120 million production budget. Is this a good enough result for a sequel? Stay tuned to CBM for future updates!

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.

JordanKing - 8/7/2013, 11:44 AM
Wow, what an achievement?
GoILL - 8/7/2013, 11:47 AM
Still haven't seen this yet.
MexicanSexyman - 8/7/2013, 11:52 AM
Good. For a sequel, Wolverine should fight Omega Red.
robsncoppers - 8/7/2013, 11:53 AM
It was very good, made all the more exciting by the best mid-credits scene ever.
TelaVizion - 8/7/2013, 11:54 AM
It better had done this... Would have loved for it to hit the billion mark
deanwilkins - 8/7/2013, 11:54 AM
Easily the best film of 2013. This movie was spectacular. For those whining about the last third, what did you expect? It was all a lead-up to the action.

In this film, we got to really experience life as Logan/Wolverine. We got a chance to fall in love with Mariko. And we got to see Wolverine do what he does best.

5/5 in my opinion. Everyone should go and see this.
TelaVizion - 8/7/2013, 11:55 AM
I need Sabretooth back for that Omega Red fight
deanwilkins - 8/7/2013, 11:55 AM
TelaVizion - Agreed. It definitely deserves a billion.
ricko8687 - 8/7/2013, 11:56 AM
I hope it gets another sequel it was 100 times better than the first one
supermarioworldE - 8/7/2013, 11:56 AM
Whoop de doo, Basil.
Luis75 - 8/7/2013, 11:57 AM
Did people actually praise Green Lantern when it reached the $100 million mark?
GreenLanternRulez - 8/7/2013, 11:58 AM
One of the Best Marvel films in years! Sequel please!
Mike89 - 8/7/2013, 12:03 PM
Im glad its doing solid financialy. The after credits scene has me exited about DOFP.
TheGambitFreak - 8/7/2013, 12:07 PM
Loved the film. Best CBM of 2013 for me thus far. I just loved the feel and tone. Very brooding and suspenseful. 3rd act was lackluster and did not fit the rest of the film, but overall is was awesome!
DurtyTalynt - 8/7/2013, 12:08 PM
Movie sucks. Fox will always have a naked wolverine movie. Worst character onscreen since blankman
CCR - 8/7/2013, 12:12 PM
Nothing wrong with the third act, it had to turn into a CBM at the end, just like all CBMs. Don't know what the hell is wrong these third-act haters. And I never will :)
ScarletJack - 8/7/2013, 12:14 PM
Just saw it last night and I really enjoyed it. So much better than Origins and I really don't think it should even be compared to Origins anymore it's in a different league. This is the first time that I really backed Hugh as Wolverine. He IS Wolverine in this movie.

Spoiler Alert!!!!

So me and my fiance were debating this last night. So At the end, Wolvie regrows his bone claws back, so his skeleton is still adamantium correct?? and just his claws are bone? I mean after the post credit scene I have to assume that is the case. Can anyone confirm? It's just weird growing bone claws out of a metal skeleton, but hey I'll go with it. Thanks Wonder how they will relace the metal back.
SaxoWolf - 8/7/2013, 12:18 PM
I will not see it, because near where I live the cinemas only have the 3D version, and I hate that 3D crap.
kadetra - 8/7/2013, 12:22 PM
wolverine is going to make around 400million worldwide. It would make more profit than both pacific rim and MOS.
DurtyTalynt - 8/7/2013, 12:28 PM
Weak ass fight scenes. Tired of watching martial art stunt men slowing down to cater to cheap fox choreography. Ive seen better after school fights.
Pharaoh - 8/7/2013, 12:29 PM
awesome flick easily best CBM post Avengers...
TelaVizion - 8/7/2013, 12:29 PM
ScarletJack, the skeleton is covered with adamantium, not made of adamantium. That is how Yashida was draining his dna. Which is also why the claws simply grew back.
Pharaoh - 8/7/2013, 12:31 PM
@Scarlet he will probably just wake up in the present with his adamantium claws thus signalling that when he went back in time he did change the time line in someway for it to result in that change occurring...
NicolasCage1 - 8/7/2013, 12:32 PM
OMG 100M! That's amazing!

deamon - 8/7/2013, 12:36 PM
Bring on Wolverine 3 with Omega Red as villain!
Dolph Lundgren for Arcade.
InfiniteMonkey - 8/7/2013, 12:37 PM
Good movie, just disappointed with the fighting and all the slashing and all the ninja and all the shit that produce no blood nor significant cool deaths.
So I watched Ninja Assassins right after. Satiated my thirst for REAL NINJA fights with real deaths. LOL
JoJo1982 - 8/7/2013, 12:40 PM
I remember all those ppl on here saying that the movie was a flopped and I kept saying no it isnt!!!

its actually going to make just about as much as First Class coming from a 120 dollar budget

what a bunch of idiots that said this movie will flop!!!

Bring on Wolverine in Russia(OMEGA RED)
fettastic - 8/7/2013, 12:42 PM
LOL Ninja Assassin sucked ass.

Mangold has promised a bloodier version headed to Blu-ray so hopefully that shuts some leaky pie-holes.
fettastic - 8/7/2013, 12:43 PM
I personally wouldn't mind an Alpha Flight movie.
kadetra - 8/7/2013, 12:44 PM
@firgosaurus- MOS budget is around 225 million with another 100 million spent on its marketting campaign. The wolverine budget is only around 120million.
faver - 8/7/2013, 12:46 PM
@ScarletJack His skeleton isn't actually made of adamantium. The adamantium is just bonded to his bones. When he lost the claws, his healing factor allowed him to regrow them, but only the bone, since the adamantium was artificially introduced in him.
WeaponX93 - 8/7/2013, 12:46 PM
I would like to see Omega Red (either Lungren or Nash or even the Rock) and Sabretooth (Schreiber) for the sequel. I think Mangold left that 2 year gap at the end for a reason
TheFox - 8/7/2013, 12:54 PM
Sweet! I hope it can make more over the next few weeks-- I don't really want to see a sequel or anything, but it'd just be nice if the film did well enough to keep 20th Century Fox in check... you know, pushing for GOOD c.b.m.s rather than getting too involved and crapping out another Last Stand or X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

DTor91 - 8/7/2013, 12:54 PM
I don't understand. It's like majority of the people on this site, and so far only on this one, saw a completely different movie from me. Not knocking anyone's opinion, but it was a very mediocre movie to me. It's better than Origins, sure. That's not saying much though. I got exactly what I expected when seeing it. I felt like there were steps in the right direction, but needed more.

Best credits scene since Iron Man 1 though.
Luis75 - 8/7/2013, 12:56 PM
So I guess if a Marvel movie makes $100 million US domestic its a huge success.

If DC movie like MOS makes $287 million US domestic its mediocre.
DrDoom - 8/7/2013, 12:58 PM
Meh at best. It's not bad, but it's certainly not good.

Also, how could $100 million domestic be 'elusive' if nineteen films this year have reached that number?
JoJo1982 - 8/7/2013, 12:59 PM
I dont think Wolverine movie and Man of steel should be compared.

They both were successful just leave at that!!!

These days ppl think making a billion and no less is the only to be successful
