EXCLUSIVE: X-MEN 3 Storyboards Reveal Deleted Danger Room Scene With Sentinels

Conceptual illustrator and storyboard artist, Tim Burgard, has sent me storyboards that he created for X-Men: The Last Stand that feature a deleted Danger Room scene involving Bobby (Iceman), Kitty Pryde, and multiple Sentinels. Hit the jump to check them out.

Tim Burgard began his artistic career in the comic book industry as a penciler, inker, and even a writer. Down the road he would lend his substantial talents to the entertainment industry, creating storyboards for popular films and television programs. Recently Tim has worked on films, such as Rupert Wyatt's Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, Kenneth Branagh's Thor and Louis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk, just to name a few. Below, you'll find a small sample of the storyboards he created for Brett Ratner's X-Men: The Last Stand. These particular storyboards feature a deleted Danger Room scene involving Shawn Ashmore's Bobby Drake/Iceman, and Ellen Page's Kitty Pryde. There are also two conclusions to this scene. In the first version the scene basically ends after the pair go through a wall together, while the second version is much more grim. Check it out!

Storyboards Created by Tim Burgard

X-Men: The Last Stand was directed by Brett Ratner, from a screenplay written by Simon Kinberg and Zak Penn. The cast included: Hugh Jackman as Logan / Wolverine, Halle Berry as Ororo Munroe / Storm, Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier, Anna Paquin as Marie / Rogue, Kelsey Grammer as Dr. Henry "Hank" McCoy / Beast, James Marsden as Scott Summers / Cyclops, Shawn Ashmore as Bobby Drake / Iceman, and Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde. The film earned $459 million at the world wide box office, against a budget of $210 million.

Too bad the rest of the movie couldn't have been more like the first two and a half minutes.
TheSuperguy - 3/2/2013, 8:40 PM
Looks pretty cool. Hopefully we'll see the sentinals in DOFP.

Recent picture of Ellen Page from 5 days ago.

She looks like Zooey Deschanel these days:

I remember the commercials and being so excited about the presence of the Sentinels . This brings back so many disappointing memories.
RichardHedski - 3/2/2013, 9:08 PM
Great movie. A little rushed but still the most entertaining X-Men movie. Ratner did a fine job with the action scenes.

BrotherStarkofMABMindz - 3/2/2013, 9:21 PM
The Fastball Special, Wolverine lighting the cigar and the "Juggernaut, BITCH!" was the best parts of that movie.
Ramiel - 3/2/2013, 9:21 PM
Ellen Page as Kitty = <3
continuezero - 3/2/2013, 9:40 PM
For real, what is with all the fanboy Ellen Paige love?
continuezero - 3/2/2013, 9:41 PM
She's attractive, but nothin special imo.
Facade - 3/2/2013, 10:00 PM
I enjoyed the movie more than the 1st two, but I'm not an X-Men aficionado, either. Other than the movies, my limited experience was with Evolution cartoon and Age of Apocalypse game.
MrReese - 3/2/2013, 10:28 PM
X2 was the best out of them.I hated that they just used the sentinels as Danger Room practice.Oh well we'll see em come DOFP XD
MrReese - 3/2/2013, 10:30 PM
also Cyclops was a lil bitch crying all the time.[racial slur] I wanna c optic blasts come out those eyes not [frick]in tears XD
CharacterAssassin - 3/2/2013, 10:41 PM
Enough with the Logan bs. We need the WOLVERINE in his actual suit.
NoJobBOB - 3/2/2013, 10:41 PM
Im watching X3 right now :D.

@MrReese - I totally [frick]ing agree. Cyclops pissed me off.
ViperXX79 - 3/2/2013, 11:27 PM
The movie was all downhill after this scene.
NitPicker - 3/2/2013, 11:47 PM
How did Wolverine all of a sudden just step out from behind that Sentinel head?
NoJobBOB - 3/3/2013, 12:01 AM
After watching it again, aside from the usual problems X3 had, something I that realllly bugged me was the wire work during the fight scenes.
NoJobBOB - 3/3/2013, 12:05 AM
Almost forgot to mention the BEST part of the movie.

Famke Janssen.

My god I love her.
eleven59 - 3/3/2013, 1:03 AM
Wait, you mean the suspended car headlights don't count as sentinels?
loki668 - 3/3/2013, 3:04 AM
Knowing Bryan Singer, the Sentinels will probably be some guys dressed in purple tinfoil.

Lord Loki has spoken
marvel72 - 3/3/2013, 3:14 AM
killing/get rid of cyclops so early on
sort of killing professor x
the mistreatment of major x-men characters
too much focus on wolverine

these are the things that were shit about x-men 3
Newbus - 3/3/2013, 3:50 AM
OhThePurdue - "Great movie. A little rushed but still the most entertaining X-Men movie. Ratner did a fine job with the action scenes."

I agree. It took liberties with some of the characters but as a film to sit down and watch I can do that. But I just cant watch X1 and X2 again.

There's something about Singer's direction that makes me not give a damn about what happens to the characters.

marvel72 - 3/3/2013, 4:04 AM
the biggest crime you don't put colossus & juggernaunt in the same movie & not have them collide.

the avengers got it right with thor & the hulk, even if the fight was a bit short they still battled.

kemuael - 3/3/2013, 5:19 AM
The best scene is when Magneto moved the Bridge..

Erik: "Charles always wanted to built bridges"

LoneShadow99 - 3/3/2013, 5:20 AM
That was my last cigar....Lol.
billnye69 - 3/3/2013, 6:28 AM
I don't understand why Kitty is ever scared of anything when everything just passes through her. Lol
InfiniteMonkey - 3/3/2013, 6:49 AM
This is all interesting and all and its cool that they like to show this but, proposed and storyboards are just that.

What was on screen was shite.
One would think its called the X-Men and not Wolverine.

That doesn't even compute.
datNAMEtho - 3/3/2013, 6:55 AM
Film sucked.
Ocelot - 3/3/2013, 6:55 AM
@continuezero she's definitely no shailene woodley if you know what I mean. @CharacterAssassin logan doesn't need his suit, as it's not integral to the character
IIIAdamantiumIII - 3/3/2013, 7:02 AM
cool!! I liked X-3 :P.... it could have been better but so could have ALL OF THE X-MEN FILMS!
shamo - 3/3/2013, 7:15 AM
cool scene, wish it would of made it into the movie. btw, Paige was a shit kitty. and she looks like a 13 year old boy with long hair.
Fogs - 3/3/2013, 7:17 AM
Ellen Page looks like Abobo in that picture.
gambgel - 3/3/2013, 7:21 AM
Really cool. Much better than the X3 session, in my opinion. And good interaction between Kitty and Bobby
JacksonVegaIII - 3/3/2013, 7:37 AM
X3 was the worst of a bad bunch in my opinion, Ive never enjoyed Singers cbms he some how made the Xmen a very dull and uninteresting affair, however I saw this film again the other day and I have to be honest I thought Prof x's death was probably the best scene out of X1 X2 X3 and X origins

Im devastated that Singer is back at the helm for X DOFP. The guy turns gold to beige every time, how you turn a group of super powered super freaks into a bunch of bores is beyond me
Taboggon - 3/3/2013, 8:30 AM
I think Bryan and co. must have done the casting process by randomly drawing names out of a hat.... eg. Anna Paquin
continuezero - 3/3/2013, 8:39 AM
@Ocelot I see what you did there..haha
theomegasanction - 3/3/2013, 8:55 AM
yeah, never understood why they never showed the whole sentinel, was it lack of money or creativity or both? also the head seemed to be too small compared to the size alluded to with the headlight eyes in the darkness. judging by the head we saw iceman could have easily frozen it in place, storm could have pushed it over with a wind gust or colossus could have just smashed the damn thing. at any rate just another example of what a total let down all three of the first Xmen movies were, so much potential and so much F'd up. I thought First Class was going to be a chance to reboot. so i will secretly hope DOFP will be better but keep telling myself don't let your heart be broken again, not after having to walk out on Origins. they say the first cut is the deepest, but for the X franchise it ended up being the fourth. ha also i like ellen paige as kitty, she is a natural beauty which means not having her face cut up or injected or implants.
Jollem - 3/3/2013, 12:07 PM
x-3 felt the most "x-men-y" to me. at least they actually had a sentinel and a danger room and working together as a team more
vxMaverickxv - 3/4/2013, 7:19 AM
X3 was by far and away the worst of the already horrible Xmen series. First, they start off by slapping every fan in the face by putting a Sentinel into the Danger Room and then basically saying...oh well...we just wanted you to think that Sentinels were in the movie. THANKS FOR YOUR MONEY!
The rest of the movie was utter and complete garbage. The ending sequence...HA! I could make a better ending in the toilet! You're telling me mutants from all over are attacking together and 10 guys just really high...that's it...no energy blasts, no super strength, no variety of powers whatsoever other than the Xmen and a handful of Magneto's army.
The complete lack of creativity in X3 could not have been saved by any measure of special effects but it would've been nice if they had tried.
