Infographic Chronicles X-MEN Franchise From Beginning To X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

The X-Men franchise has had its fair share of continuity issues, & while X-Men: Days of Future Past does quite a bit to remedy them, it's easy to still be a bit confused. So, come check out this cool infographic which lays out the timeline & accounts for events from all 7 films! SPOILERS!

The timeline below contains critical spoilers from X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The timeline splits based on a different scenario occurring in the film. Also, the timeline makes it seem like events from every film were more or less erased, but based on director Bryan Singer's comments in the past, that shouldn't be the case and the events of X-Men & X2 should still be intact, although a different variation most likely occurred in the new timeline. Also, with Wolverine & Professor X remembering the alternate timeline, a variation of the events of The Wolverine are likely to still have occurred. X-Men Origins: Wolverine & X-Men: The Last Stand are the two films most affected by the timeline shift.

Check out the neat infographic that details the X-Men franchise below:

The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. The beloved characters from the original "X-Men" film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from "X-Men: First Class," in an epic battle that must change the past -- to save our future.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past features:
Director: Bryan Singer
Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine
Patrick Stewart/James McAvoy as Charles Xavier/Professor X
Ian McKellen/Michael Fassbender as Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto
Jennifer Lawrence as Raven Darkholme/Mystique
Halle Berry as Ororo Munroe/Storm
Peter Dinklage as Bolivar Trask
Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy/Beast
Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat
Shawn Ashmore as Bobby Drake/Iceman
Anna Paquin as Marie D'Ancanto/Rogue
Daniel Cudmore as Peter Rasputin/Colossus
Lucas Till as Alex Summers/Havok
Evan Peters as Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver
Booboo Stewart as James Proudstar/Warpath

Pretty cool. Time travel hurts my head.
NovaCorpsFan - 5/24/2014, 6:16 AM
I'm spoiling DoFP for myself but I don't care. The plot doesn't make the movie for me unless it's convoluted and doesn't go anywhere.
TheBuoyWonder - 5/24/2014, 6:17 AM
Aww so the wolverine never happened?
I liked that one.
captainireland - 5/24/2014, 6:23 AM
Pretty cool. But why does it list timelines with Mystique killing Trask at both the summit and the White House? I thought there were only two timelines, one where she kills him at the summit & one where she doesn't. It also lists The Last Stand as being released in 2003. Somewhat unrelatedly, if Apocalypse takes place in the 80s, McAvoy's gonna have to go bald right? We've seen Stewart as Xavier in the 80s bald. Surely changing the timeline wouldn't save his hair?! :P
JoJo1982 - 5/24/2014, 6:35 AM
Good they fixing their own time line now

X-men is back in track

charlie2094 - 5/24/2014, 6:38 AM
Pretty cool!

I might be wrong, but didn't Days of Future Past essentially leave just First Class? Isn't every other film wiped out so to speak, the end scene with Wolverine purely being to show him back with the old cast. For Wolverine, the events of the films still happened in his mind...right?

Time travel's confusing :P
MrCBM56 - 5/24/2014, 6:40 AM
@NovaCorpsFan Do yourself a favor & just see the movie. It's excellent.
MrCBM56 - 5/24/2014, 6:41 AM
The last 30 minutes are so intense, emotional, & so balanced with drama & action it's crazy.
MrCBM56 - 5/24/2014, 6:43 AM
I'm so pumped for Apocalypse:

1. It's basically confirmed Scott, Jean, & Storm will have prominent roles with Logan telling Xavier to recruit them.

2. I wonder where we'll find Magneto & how he fits.

3. I can't wait to see where we find Logan & Mystique next.
KingPatel - 5/24/2014, 6:44 AM
@TheBuoyWonder Like I said above, I don't believe the events of The Wolverine were erased, I'd say a different variation of them most likely still occurred. Same goes for X1 & X2. The events of X2 led to X3, so that one would be affected significantly.
CherryBomb - 5/24/2014, 6:45 AM
X-Men 1 still must have happened since we see a Rogue with her trademark white hair that she got after the events in the movie.
MrCBM56 - 5/24/2014, 6:47 AM
The only thing canon is everything before the events of DOFP (First Class, first 5 min of Origins), & after it (Apocalypse) I think.
GliderMan - 5/24/2014, 6:48 AM
There was no need to retcon all of those movies.
TheRationalNerd - 5/24/2014, 6:48 AM
Awesome! Very brief and makes total sense!
GliderMan - 5/24/2014, 6:49 AM
X-Men 1 might not have happened the same way though, because Mystique didn't go down that darker path, at least not yet. Remains to be seen.
charlie2094 - 5/24/2014, 6:49 AM

I think the same too...even the scene at the end, think that was more just to show Wolverine back with the old cast, rather than actually confirm X-1 still happened...

Much cleaner this way, almost like a semi-reboot
CaptainAmerica31 - 5/24/2014, 6:49 AM
What if Zac Efron is playing young scott? I mean he'll be a teen right?
NovaCorpsFan - 5/24/2014, 6:49 AM

I do plan on seeing it. Not trying to knock it or anything I'm just saying, I constantly spoil movies for myself and I don't see it as a big deal.
MrCBM56 - 5/24/2014, 6:50 AM
I'm still in shock of how great DOFP Is. For real. It's still in the 90's on RT to. Singer, Fox, the cast/crew, I tip my hat to you. Great job.
MrCBM56 - 5/24/2014, 6:52 AM
@charlie2094 Agreed.
Stubner - 5/24/2014, 6:52 AM

That's what I get out of it. First Class is really the only film that isn't compromised in any way. I'm totally cool with that too. It's simpler to process lol.
FastFlames - 5/24/2014, 6:53 AM
I'm very disappointed, yet happy that the events of X-Men 1,2 and 3, along with both Wolverines have been erased. There is now 50 years of the X-Men timeline that has been erased, which is a lot of blank canvas for more movies.
CaptainAmerica31 - 5/24/2014, 6:53 AM
Oh and I love how the movie is setting up the next wolverine movie too. What's so great about this movie, other than it's story, is how the film managed to fix everything and set everything back on track AND be a GREAT/ EXCELLENT movie at the same time. That is an incredible feat to accomplish.
MrCBM56 - 5/24/2014, 6:54 AM
Also, the deaths in this movie are BRUTAL. Colossus death...WOW! He was just ripped apart.

But when Storm died, not gonna lie, stabbed me right in the feels.
CaptainAmerica31 - 5/24/2014, 6:54 AM
Yea so they pretty much rebooted the whole franchise
MrCBM56 - 5/24/2014, 6:55 AM
The last dialogue between Xavier & Charles (Future) was pretty emotional too.

"All those years wasted fighting each other, Charles"
CaptainAmerica31 - 5/24/2014, 6:55 AM
@MrCBM not gonna lie, I was happy when she died. I thought that maybe she would be recasted as someone else lol
MrCBM56 - 5/24/2014, 6:55 AM
It's like, the original trilogy is canon...but it's not. It happened... But it didn't.
FastFlames - 5/24/2014, 6:56 AM
@MrCBM56 yeah I think you're right, everything that happened after 1973 was completely erased from the time line and is being rebooted from that point on.
ShadowFan - 5/24/2014, 6:57 AM
Just mentally "reboot", it makes things easier to ;-)
MrCBM56 - 5/24/2014, 6:57 AM
Also, I love how the film so subtle acknowledged the Colossus & Kitty relationship with them teaching a class together.
CaptainAmerica31 - 5/24/2014, 6:58 AM
Yea the ending to this movie was brutal to watch. So emotional, I haven't seen a ending that emotional in a CBM in a long ass time. When the Erik said " all those years wasted fighting each other" was so touching, and then they shook hands I was so sad.( I don't cry in movies) but like TASM2 I was close. Such a great film, I need to watch it again.
FastFlames - 5/24/2014, 6:58 AM
The original trilogy is still cannon in that it leads to the events at the beginning of DOGP which leads to rebooting the timeline, and Wolverine (and to some extent Charles) still remember it so yes, it is still cannon, but is running parallel to what were getting now erasing it from the timeline.
CaptainAmerica31 - 5/24/2014, 6:59 AM
Oh and I bet the new X-men films are going to start with Charles telling Logan what happened. Cause he has a lot of " catching up to do".
KingPatel - 5/24/2014, 7:01 AM
I still wouldn't say the events were erased, obviously Xavier found Wolverine & Rogue again, which doesn't necessarily mean the events of X1 happened as they did originally, but something similar did. It's probably a safe bet that Singer still considers his two films to be in line with the new timeline. I'd say the major change from his films is that the ending of X2 changed from Jean dying to Jean actually surviving and possibly learning to control the Phoenix which erases X3.
CherryBomb - 5/24/2014, 7:03 AM

Zac Efron is with Marvel/Disney, not FOX.
MrCBM56 - 5/24/2014, 7:03 AM
@CaptainAmerica31 AGREED! But I loved how he woke up in the new timeline, he tried to touch Jean but Scott stopped him. "Some things never change" haha love that part.
CherryBomb - 5/24/2014, 7:04 AM
It would be cool if we had movies with the original cast while having movies with the younger cast also.
CherryBomb - 5/24/2014, 7:05 AM
Jean Grey looked so so so so so beautiful in that scene!
I was like "wow she has not aged". I loved her hair.
