James Mangold Open To A Sequel To THE WOLVERINE; Interested In A SANDMAN Movie

Although The Wolverine is pretty much a standalone story leading into Bryan Singer's X-Men: DOFP, Mangold says he'd be interested in a follow up. He also reveals that he'd be very interested in, and has talked to Neil Gaiman about, a Sandman movie..

The Wolverine doesn't really leave any room for a direct follow up but there are a great many solo Logan stories to mine from should another movie materialize, and director James Mangold says that if he was afforded the same "freedoms" that the first film allowed him, he wouldn't hesitate to get back on board. "If it presented me with the opportunity as this one did then yes. What I mean is the location and the world in Japan really presented me with a unique set of freedoms," says Mangold to Yahoo Movies! "Certainly any project with Hugh is enticing, but if someone came to me, or I came up with a strategy that stays as inventive and as exciting, I wouldn’t hesitate to do another one." Another question put to the director is that if he had the chance to make a movie based on any DC Comics character, who would it be? Mangold name-checks both Neil Gaiman's The Sandman and The Flash -- revealing that he's actually spoken to the creator of the former about a big screen outing for Morpheus in the past. "The Sandman. Neil Gaiman’s Sandman is a great property. Actually I’ve talked to Neil about it before. I think it’s one of the great really interesting modernist tales. Also, on the complete other side of the universe I’ve always been a fan of The Flash. Although the outfit would have to definitely change, with those little wings on his ears."

Awesome! I think everyone is a fan of the Flash, they just don't want to admit it. But don't be hating on the iconic ears

"Although the outfit would have to definitely change, with those little wings on his ears."

Ah you don't want to say that on CBM
TopCat89 - 7/24/2013, 2:33 AM
Looking forward to Wolverine!
thewonderer - 7/24/2013, 2:38 AM
Mangold is a fantastic director.

He just needs a good script to back him up
SuperSam - 7/24/2013, 2:43 AM
I'm sure a very creative team would be able to pull off the "wings" on his cowl.

It's sad when a Highmoon studios can create a great costume that can work on the big screen and freakin' Brian Singer can't.

SuperSam - 7/24/2013, 2:45 AM
Or Mangold :P
CoulsonLives - 7/24/2013, 2:45 AM
Those winged ears are what make him cool! D:
Just don't over do it and it would look fine! Make it like a mix of armor and some lines here and there... Like the new 52 Flash! But hell naw! Those ears are what make him look not silly! It may work on Cap but not on the scarlet Speedster Barry Allen! Also mention Jay Garrick as being a comic book hero now in retirement.
Thegeekygurl - 7/24/2013, 2:47 AM
Neil Gaiman is a dirtbag, lying thief! Mangold needs to stay away from that pig!

Neil might work up one of his lawsuits and use a court to steal something from Mangold.
CoulsonLives - 7/24/2013, 2:48 AM
Those are not wings, those are lightning bolts. Cap has wings.
CoulsonLives - 7/24/2013, 2:50 AM
Am I the only one who wants a child sidekick in these movies? Come on, Kid-Flash is also a must! And maybe one day... We can have a Teen Titans movie!
Danbojohnj - 7/24/2013, 3:06 AM
Leave Flash alone, the costume is iconic and needs no alterations,Neil Patrick Harris for Flash.
TopCat89 - 7/24/2013, 3:16 AM

Ah i forgot about those....thanks for the reminder lol
TelaVizion - 7/24/2013, 3:17 AM
He did a great job on The Wolverine. Didn't like the changes made to Harada (only complaint from the movie), but it was great. The bullet train scene looks even better on the giant screen. Wolvie fighting the ninjas was a great scene too.

Everyone in the theater loved the mid credit scene.

Go see The Wolverine when it comes out Friday. I'll most likely be seeing this movie again twice this weekend
TelaVizion - 7/24/2013, 3:21 AM
I would love to see Enemy of the State become a movie, but FOX would never allow that... and Marvel, I'm sure, has control over The Hand back.

Take away the mask, and give a reason for him to actually be wearing such a costume, and it could maybe work on screen. Just needs to be a reason for him, a serious character, to put on such a costume. Would like to see it though! Looking forward to the Wolverine, looks great, glad to see Mangolds open to doing more.
Spideyshawn - 7/24/2013, 3:26 AM

Sandman should be a tv series with the budget of GoT. 10 seasons, 3 or 4-episode arcs and the rest episodes standalone stories.
AmazingFantasy - 7/24/2013, 3:37 AM
Keen for Wolvie tomorrow
TheBoss117 - 7/24/2013, 3:45 AM

A Sandman movie could be interesting
PeterBenjaminParker - 7/24/2013, 4:06 AM

That is by far the most moronic thing I have ever read.
jimoakley666 - 7/24/2013, 4:21 AM
@SuperSam - Mask looks like shit, 2d & 3d. That wouldn't work on the big screen with normal people.
datNAMEtho - 7/24/2013, 4:22 AM
He should stay far away from the Sandman!
datNAMEtho - 7/24/2013, 4:23 AM
But Stephen Moyer should definitely play the Sandman :D
jimoakley666 - 7/24/2013, 4:24 AM
I'd love to see Liev Schrieber return as Sabretooth.
GeekyCheekyChic - 7/24/2013, 4:36 AM
Went to the AMC/Hugh Jackman fan event last night- AWESOME GUY. Charming and charismatic. The movie and Hugh telling us with all honesty that DOFP is going to be amazing has now got me excited. I give the movie an 8.5 and the after credits teaser- a solid 10. Mangold can make another Wolverine if he wants- I'll definitely go see it. I will be seeing the Wolverine again and again in theaters.
thetrojan - 7/24/2013, 4:37 AM
a sandman movie ?????
thats like trying to make a movie based on the bible.
lose the iconic features of the flash' costume ????????

na just leave it well alone.
loki668 - 7/24/2013, 4:53 AM

Sounds like you're a McFarlane fan. Though, it was McFarlane who caused that little episode.
ABLEE337 - 7/24/2013, 4:54 AM
Why would he wear a mask when the rest of the x-team doesn't in real life???

That would be like you wearing a mask, but the rest of your friends not when you're out in public.

Don't say it's to hide your identity, cause wearing a costume that exposes your arms, lower face with pointy ear things that look like your hair style is a bad disguise.

A ski mask and hoodie would be a better disguise.

Plus it makes no sense to me that a badass guy like him would put on a costume like that.

I can't see Dirty Harry, Mad Max, other similar manly badass characters putting on something like that by choice. It seems out of character to me and it seems too forced.

I think it works in comics because drawing are more like cartoons and films are more like photos.

Plus in the comics, the world is cartoony and is populated with masked people, so it doesn't seem as out of place to me, but I do remember as a child I would question why they still had their masks on back at home base when they are just hanging around talking?

With all that said, I would love them to solve all those problems to have a logical reason for the costumes without having to change the tone of the films to something more cartoony like Dick Tracy or Batman Returns.
R888 - 7/24/2013, 5:05 AM

That an awesome pic of Spiderman
deamon - 7/24/2013, 5:14 AM

The14thAvenger - 7/24/2013, 6:06 AM

gambgel - 7/24/2013, 6:48 AM
no interested in ANOTHER Wolverine movie, honestly.

Give me something new, another spin-off, more team sequels, Mr. Sinister, Apocalypse....

Anything else except another Logan movie, please!
TheRationalNerd - 7/24/2013, 6:51 AM
Well I'm absolutely betting that Wolvwrine may end up getting a costume in the past setting of the Days of Future Past" film. Bryan Singer confirmed that Quicksilver will wear a quite cheesy costume but because he's in the 70's it will make since. So if Wolvwrines costume wouldn't necessarily work with the seriousness we've seen in the current future why wouldn't they work back then?

I'm 100% positive that the younger X-Men will be receiving new costumes in the 70's.

Just a but confused on costume we saw the future wolverine (grey hair) wearing. Perhaps the X-Men went through another costume change after the events of The Last Stand? :)
TheWolverine08 - 7/24/2013, 7:10 AM
Do it Mangold! The Wolverine looks great, and I would love a sequel.
AdamX - 7/24/2013, 8:41 AM
Cinematic Wolvie will always be a puss!!!
AdamX - 7/24/2013, 8:42 AM
I want to be proved wrong but the track record thus far has been crap.
AdamX - 7/24/2013, 8:45 AM
@SuperSam-Hugh would never be able to pull off that wolverine look.
BubblesShedAndBreakfast - 7/24/2013, 9:10 AM
Why so can turn DC's villains into robots? Good director just bad ideas.:/
GreenLanternRulez - 7/24/2013, 10:38 AM
Nice pic @SuperSam. That wolverine is easily the most practical and realistic I've ever seen, while still keeping his comic look present.
