More From Simon Kinberg On Anna Paquin's Role As 'Rogue' In X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Following reports that Anna Paquin had been cut entirely from X-Men: Days of Future Past, it was then revealed that she would have a much smaller role in the movie. Now, Simon Kinberg goes into further detail about the reason behind her role being shortened, what we'll see of her and more.

In an interview with Crave Online, X-Men: Days of Future Past writer and producer Simon Kinberg was asked to clear things up in regards to Anna Paquin's role in the "inbetweenquel". Fans were disappointed to learn that the actress had been cut from the movie, although the backlash seemingly led to at least a small part of what was once a significant chunk of screentime being restored. "I just wanted to see Ian [McKellan] and Patrick [Stewart] on a mission together. So I took them away from the main plot of the movie so that they could go off and do something, and [Rogue] was the MacGuffin of that mission. It was a perfectly fine 10 minutes of the film that didn’t fit the film. So we pulled her out of the movie and pulled that plot out of the film. I can’t speak to any other rumors about any other way she could appear in the film, but I can tell you that the main plot that we shot with her, we pulled out of the movie." So, perhaps we won't see her? We'll just have to wait and see.

As for whether or not Rogue's inclusion was a way of making up for her being "cured" of her mutant powers in X-Men: The Last Stand, Kinberg added: "No, I have plenty of residual guilt from The Last Stand and this movie in many ways was like my chance to tell a better X-Men story. Though I’m very proud of what we did with X-Men: First Class but the two biggest stories for me growing up were Dark Phoenix and Days of Future Past. Those were the ones that I loved, so what I wanted to do with Dark Phoenix is different [than] what the movie ended up being. That’s a whole other interview and conversation, but on this one we had a lot more creative freedom and more encouragement to be loyal to the original books. At any rate, it wasn’t that." Finally, the writer was then quizzed about his original vision for "Dark Pheonix", revealing again that it could and should have been a much different movie. "It was just much more the Dark Phoenix story. What happened when we were developing X3 was it began as the Dark Phoenix story and then it evolved into combining also the cure plot. At a certain point in the development process or pre-production process, the cure plot took precedence over the Dark Phoenix plot. So what should have been Dark Phoenix A story, cure plot B story started to invert, I think partly because the other actors like Ian and Patrick were more related to that other story." What do you guys think about these comments?

A lot of Kinsberg....
ComicsBornAndBred - 4/21/2014, 4:12 AM
I'm confused. They say she's in it them they say she isn't. Idk
OrgasmicPotatoe - 4/21/2014, 4:22 AM
@ComicsBornAndBred It's fairly simple. She was going to be in the movie, but they cut her out, and Singer told us right away. Now they've figured a way to keep her in the movie (she probably had some contractual obligations to appear in the movie or some shit), but they didn't want to come back on their words. Anna Paquin's name is in the trailers, i'm pretty sure if they had cut her out, they would'nt have put her name in the trailer.

Rogue is going to be in the movie, for like two minutes. That's a cameo.

Dicks!!! Ah, shit...
mcp2003m - 4/21/2014, 4:31 AM
@omegadagod, [frick] the Heat. Let's go Nets.

Did you see the blazers ending?
loki668 - 4/21/2014, 4:37 AM
What?!? No Harlem Globetrotters??
Vegeta - 4/21/2014, 4:38 AM
To be honest, I'm starting to lose interest in this movie. That last trailer really didn't do it for me.
loki668 - 4/21/2014, 4:41 AM
I'm hoping that this film rocks and is not just "Cameo-Fest 2014". The trailers give me some hope!!
mcp2003m - 4/21/2014, 4:41 AM
The game was good ultimately but the refs got a little carried away at the end. I want blazers to win this series cuz I can't stand Howard so when Alridge and Lopez fouled out on bullshit, I wanted to break my TV. Yeah, that dude Lillard is cold-blooded. Y'all got a good foundation over there.
Vegeta - 4/21/2014, 4:42 AM
This whole "She's in it. She's not in it. No, she's in it! No, she's not in it" is getting annoying now. I mean for [frick]s sake, is she in it or not?
Klone - 4/21/2014, 4:42 AM
This Rouge [frick]ing sucks.
Klone - 4/21/2014, 4:43 AM

How the hell did you, or anyone, get interested in this film?
Vegeta - 4/21/2014, 4:46 AM
I'm a big X-Men fan MAK, and I like the movies for the most part.

I'm still interested in the movie, but I'm not as hyped as was.
SuperCat - 4/21/2014, 4:48 AM
Sh*t gives me a headache. The Last Stand really f*cked up everything.

ProfessorX - 4/21/2014, 4:53 AM
Groot has a message for Kinberg:

Highflyer - 4/21/2014, 4:53 AM
@Supercat I agree. I can't wait for this movie and the trailers are awesome but whenever I read what they say I'm like...
loki668 - 4/21/2014, 4:57 AM

I watch them hoping for three letters: MMO

SuperCat - 4/21/2014, 4:58 AM
LOL! @ highflyer

I'm looking forward to this film too. Will be interesting to see if they can explain some of the mishaps from the Last Stand.
MrCBM56 - 4/21/2014, 5:03 AM
lol. Just imagine if they never came out in public and announced her cut, fans wouldn't even care probably. Besides, aside from nostalgic reasoning, was any of us really that excited to see Rouge? Like since they've announced her cut she's been a fan favorite all of a sudden. It's whatever. She'll still have a cameo. Better than nothing.
TheRealSupaMan - 4/21/2014, 5:05 AM
I just dont understand why she is getting so much coverage for this movie, who really care sif she is in it at all. She hasnt had a big role in them since the first movie and thats a long time ago.
Scarilian - 4/21/2014, 5:06 AM
How do you not know anything about your own movie? For [frick]s sake, what is happening with this film?

"I think partly because the other actors like Ian and Patrick were more related to that other story."

So basically he was letting the actors have more control over the film than he had as a producer... the [frick]?
MrCBM56 - 4/21/2014, 5:09 AM
@Scarillian Just because you don't know whats going on in this film doesn't mean they don't. And way to twist his words around.
MrCBM56 - 4/21/2014, 5:10 AM
@TheRealSupaMan Exactly.
MrCBM56 - 4/21/2014, 5:22 AM
LMAO 0mega!
SuperCat - 4/21/2014, 5:24 AM
LOL!!! @ 0mega
Klone - 4/21/2014, 5:26 AM

Yeah, but Rogue is one the the characters they completely ruined. And excuse that she's a mix with Jubilee is a weak one. VERY WEAK.
MsDarkPhoenix - 4/21/2014, 5:27 AM
X-Men The Last Stand could have been an amazing movie!! The Dark Phoenix Saga is one of the best comics ever imo!!! Instead, we got a very bad movie that tried to keep up with two stories.

Uhh that skin and those eyes... KILL. ME. NOW!!!!!!!

SCURVYDOG619 - 4/21/2014, 5:27 AM
There's a phrase that has been used more than a few times, and it sure applies to this movie and the not-so-Fantastic four "reboot"...

"There comes a time when one has to admit that Command and Control is stuck on STUPID..."
IminentEminence - 4/21/2014, 5:28 AM
She was a terible Rogue anyway. Doesn't make sense to even put her in the movie for 2 - 3 minutes if they need to spend that time explaining where her new power set came from.
ALF9001 - 4/21/2014, 5:31 AM
O my (frick)ing god this guy is on everything!!!
JoJo1982 - 4/21/2014, 5:34 AM

IminentEminence - 4/21/2014, 5:34 AM
0mega Lmao! Those gifs look like Bad News Bears learn basketball...
MrBatmor - 4/21/2014, 5:34 AM
Wasnt he the one who wrote x3...then why is he acting as if it wasnt his fault at all,..?

is he the"stand-in" director now?
JoJo1982 - 4/21/2014, 5:35 AM
Well atleast Miami won
MrBatmor - 4/21/2014, 5:37 AM
Is he like the joss whedon of fox!?(coz he [frick]ing knows about everything in fox)..
MrBatmor - 4/21/2014, 5:45 AM
And it is all but confirmed that cyclops is gonna come back...the real leader!!!
JoJo1982 - 4/21/2014, 5:49 AM

JoJo1982 - 4/21/2014, 5:51 AM
Rogue has always been the weakest character in these movies, if they not going to do her justice like her comic character then I don't care if she is in the movie or not
LaserKing - 4/21/2014, 5:55 AM
Either way I don't think this will make or break the movie. Just wish they would be clear with sharing info.
