MIB is nothing to be excited about. Prometheus is the one to wait for. So yeah, Avengers will be #1 again.
HugeCapfan - 5/20/2012, 9:04 AM
If Men in Black3 could make 50 to 70 million in the first weekend, it would be enough to take top spot, since Avengers, going into it's 4th week, already made it's money and seen by everybody.

It's been a long while since the General Public seen Will Smith or seen his 'shlick', so I figure MIB3 would do very well.

Good or bad, I'll probably borrow the dvd of Men in Black3 from a friend to watch it.
Gigacrusher45 - 5/20/2012, 9:23 AM
Here's the thing though. There are people who haven't seen the Avengers waiting for it to die down and not be as crazy at the theater... which it hasn't yet.
ACMilan - 5/20/2012, 10:17 AM
I think it tops it, but not by an enormous margin. The MIB people have done things well by rereleasing the original film at red box and having it play a bit on TV to get the younger audience into it. It is also a franchise that is applicable for all ages, thereby adding money to their bottom line. Obviously getting a family of four instead of a couple adds to the box office take.

I took my 9yr old to see an early matinee this morning, his 1st time, my 4th....... Anyhow, as I was saying, on a Sunday morning matinee 3 weeks after it's release the whole theater was packed and there were NO seats left in the theater. I don't see this dying down any time soon.
defenderofthefaith - 5/20/2012, 11:17 AM
The Avengers is losing half its audience every weekend. From 207 to 103 to 55. This means it should make between 30 to 40 million this 4 day weekend. Little more than half of last weekend with the long weekend. Those are still good numbers but Men In Black should double that with around 70/80 million.
GingerBird - 5/20/2012, 11:22 AM
You nerds, Avengers us getting lucky with shitty films against it (Dark Shadows and Battleship).
Joe6Pack74 - 5/20/2012, 11:36 AM
Avengers will be in the number one spot until Judge Dredd comes out. Then Avengers will be taken out of the theaters in respect for Dredd.
MrsTonyStark0507 - 5/20/2012, 11:43 AM
Shoot, I went to se the Avengers (for the 3rd time) on Wednesday, 1PM first showing of the day and the theater was pretty packed. I don't think I have ever seen that happen before. I hope it hangs in there! I want to see it again!! (And again and again!!) But I do want to see MIB3. So, I really don't know.
FightmasterNoel - 5/20/2012, 12:10 PM
Im not sure. MIB2 sucked but MIB1 gave the franchise more than a strong start so fans are confused as to whether they want to see it or not. In my oppinion i think avengers will last the opening week but afterwards might fall after fans continue going to MIB3 and other fans stop re seeing avengrs.
FightmasterNoel - 5/20/2012, 12:14 PM
All in all both films have strong chances. Avengers calls out to fams,MIB3 calls out to fams. But however being that most familys dont re see films a multitude of times. MIB3 will get the fam audience when it comes out but Avengers fanboys and girls are more passionate and will most likely still rewatche avengers duyring MIB3 premeire. So fanboy audience goes to avengers still. Date night audience. Well its split down the middle. If couples still havent seen avengers theyll probly see that if couples have theyll see MIB3 so its anyones game.
DoomXfactor - 5/20/2012, 1:29 PM
Everybody has to see it again so it can beat Men in Black
Mego - 5/20/2012, 3:58 PM
MIB 3 is a wild card. Its 10 years after #2, do people still care about MIB? Does Will Smith actually have some fan following? Has the tv airings built fans is the real question. Hard to answer, but its possible it will be #1 with 1 big week then drop behind Avengers the next.
blkyank - 5/20/2012, 4:02 PM
MIB would have to bomb big time Battleship style for The Avengers to take next weekend.

Most families have already seen The Avengers and in this economy are not the ones seeing it again and again.

Most families haven't seen anything else this month(I.E. Dark Shadows,Battleship) and are looking forward to the next big thing.

MIB3 has Will Smith returning to his genre roots in his biggest franchise thats loaded with effects, aliens, gadgets, time travel and Josh Brolin's scene stealing turn as Agent K.

It's coming out on Memorial Day weekend, the first summer holiday and kids will have monday off.Parents will have incentive to go to the movies to get the kids out of the house.
YoungThanos - 5/20/2012, 4:42 PM
I'll likely pass on MIB3 but I can see it doing about 55-60mil next week. The next thing I'm looking to see is Prometheus provided the reviews(Spill.com & Jeremy Jahns) are decent.
beetheb - 5/20/2012, 6:31 PM
For the entire 4-day weekend I'm think MIB could do anywhere from $60-80 million, which should double what The Avengers does. It'll definitely win, but the big story is still going to be the Avengers passing $500 million domestically in one month, which it has a real shot at doing.
IronPatriotAvenger - 5/20/2012, 7:16 PM
Well, I just saw Avengers for the 4th time, 2 of which were IMAX and imo, the 3rd time was the best and then it starts to lose it's charm (though I'm squeezing 1 more IMAX out before it leaves ;).

So, I'm betting, aside from all those people crawling out of corners who haven't seen it yet, and those of us who will continue to see it a few times, MIB3 most likely will take Avengers down.

But who knows, when us sheep...I mean people get on fire about something trendy, sometime's it lasts a while. A lot depends on MIB3 word of mouth opening day.

If for some reason the Fresh Prince can't take #1, then there is Snow White and the Huntsman the next week

...Thor with a hammer vs. Thor with an AX!!!
IronPatriotAvenger - 5/20/2012, 7:28 PM

There's a lot to take in from the Avengers, that makes it at least open for many to see it twice, but I agree, not the best CBM ever.

Parts that were sooo hilarious the first and second times are just like eh by the fourth time.
maito - 5/21/2012, 8:33 AM
It depends I guess. My forth time I went with the boys and we kept on laughing even thought it was a dub ver. The fifth time I went with the local squad of Loki's army, the tape was so used up that it wasn't enjoyable watching, but we couldn't stop giggling.

I hope MIBIII doesn't displace the Avengers. I'm planning to see it one more time this weekend alone just to appreciate the especial effects, the battles choreography, the performances and the cinematography.
hellfire - 5/21/2012, 8:49 AM
It would be great if A kept the No1 spot but I have a feeling MB3 will knock it off the top. Here's hoping MIB3 attendance drops in it's second week only to have A take the No1 spot but that maybe too far fetched.
