Both Hellboy movies were great. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is a f**cking awesome movie. I don't give a damn what the majority says about it, it was kick ass. The effects used for Ghost Rider in GRSOV were down right sinister looking. It'll remain of my favorite CBM's for a long time if not forever.

I think it would do ok but no more than 250 million at the box office so the budget would.have to be somewhere between 40-60 million. Remember the Incredible Hulk and CATFA only just done about the same especially TIH that only made under 200 million at the us b.o. But strange could be a wonderful film if done right especially his spiritual training I would love a Dr Strange movie.
Happy11 - 2/21/2013, 11:32 AM
@PC04 don't agree with your love for the movie but love your commitment and for me thats a deserves a lot of respect.

It would be great to see Dr. Strange go into astral projection mode and fight the big bad while his body lays vulnerable and the minion breaks into the house to attack Strange while he is vulnerable so Dr. Strange has to beat the big bad in astral projection before the other guy gets to his body. That would make for a great scene.

@PC04 I'm right there with u on GRSOV dude! Well, it's not my fave cbm but i really liked it...
StarkRaving - 2/21/2013, 11:39 AM
Yes, but not because Hellboy and Ghost Rider did "okay". If the script, direction, acting, special effects, and the rest of the production values are well-done, then of course it can do well. A good movie is a good movie.
MercSoul - 2/21/2013, 11:43 AM
ghost rider sov was the worst shit i ever seen, worst than the first
starkresilient - 2/21/2013, 11:44 AM
I loved Hellboy movies and with the right cast+director Dr. Strange can do amazing too
JMESS - 2/21/2013, 11:49 AM
of course it can, but like any good movie needs the right people leading the charge.
DanteSparda - 2/21/2013, 11:57 AM
Of course, it only needs the Thor approach.
DefcoN - 2/21/2013, 12:04 PM
Ghost Rider may be OK, but the Hellboy movies were awesome, especially the second.
GodzillaKart - 2/21/2013, 12:09 PM
As long as it is done well, they can do great at the box office.
TerminalVoyd - 2/21/2013, 12:50 PM
There are oddly stacked examples in the poll question. Hellboy could have done better, but for $60 and $80 million movies (the second plopped into the heart of a mobbed summer movie season instead of a much wiser fall release), they did alright (particularly when you take in post theatrical sales On Demand and DVD).

The Ghost Rider films did better than they had any right to (though I don't recall if Spirit of Vengeance actually did as head scratchingly well as Ghost Rider). Constantine did solid box office and all but the third of the Blade series were great earners (and all without major name recognition). And no, none were blockbusters.

It's really about the timing and the talent and the amount of care and focus the studio is prepared to lavish on the project and people involved. It really is the difference between a little known property turning into a surprise franchise like Blade, or the next Dylan Dog.

Two words: Harry Potter

If that wizard could have one of the most successful franchises in movie history, how could melding that idea with a superhero fail if executed properly.
Yeaton10 - 2/21/2013, 1:06 PM
If it had a really compelling story (like Harry Potter), I don't see what would stop it. It might also help if it had really strong name recognition (for example Wonder Woman is a fantasy character in the comic books).
Rhysno1 - 2/21/2013, 1:17 PM
Doctor Strange just needs the love and attention the other properties have had
Tevii - 2/21/2013, 2:00 PM
The answer is OF COURSE they can be successful, if they are done right.
Just
like Green Lantern was a no-brainer to be a success, but it was done poorly so it failed.

2 WORDS HARRY POTTER
If they market it properly and people know it is a piece of the marvel cinematic universe then theyll want to know
Pharaoh - 2/21/2013, 2:20 PM
Magic and Comic Book movies are the Highest Grossing genres of film in the last 10 years so obviously combining them on a huge scale would be a no brainer. Doctor Strange might nit do incredible numbers I'm not convinced on it's appeal to younger audiences but DC could make a killing with SHAZAM

SHAZAM is insane in potential, Billy Batson is a kid who is bullied and become magically endowed with super powers that hits 3 hot issues, Bullying has been a hot issue the last few years, magic well Harry Potters finished and needs someone to pick up it's mantel, and he's a Super Hero who power wise is arguably only matched by Superman but due to the magic element has alot more VFX potential

SHAZAM cinematically has the potential to be as big as Superman and Batman if put in the right hands
soaponapope - 2/21/2013, 3:35 PM
a sorcerer is no more ridiculous than a guy dressed like a bat or a guy getting bit by a spider and thereby acquiring spider-like abilities or a guy with lasers coming out of his eyes
beane2099 - 2/21/2013, 4:02 PM
I think the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter franchises have shown us that the movie going public has zero problems with magic. And I think the success of the Twilight movie series has shown us that magic most assuredly exists.
SpideyQuad - 2/21/2013, 5:21 PM
I think Constantine would be a better example.

The answer is of course, if it has quality writer, actors, and directors. Any subject could make a popular movie with the right ingredients. As the critics of Ant Man will learn in a few years.
youngavengers - 2/21/2013, 7:17 PM
THOR did you guys for get about him
TexasTwoFace - 2/21/2013, 8:03 PM
The public will have no problem with magic if you make a good movie, like people have said the Harry Potter franchise was huge.
Scorpioxfactor - 2/23/2013, 5:43 PM
I don't think we should do an origin, just go right into the story. Definitely have his servant answer the door just like the books, have the eye of agamotto make an appearance and the globe thing he is always looking at too. They can go just right into it....look at that movie keanu did, anyways....
FightmasterNoel - 2/28/2013, 7:59 PM
Not cuz HB and GR did good tho cuase of the movie itself being good. With the fanbase and Disneys money backing them.
PeterParker1991 - 3/1/2013, 3:06 PM
Thor worked. Dr. Strange should be a walk in the park
Captain90s - 3/7/2013, 2:16 PM
Dr. strange would be cool but if they teamed him up with other characters it would be epic like a midnight sons movie.

I would love to see a Dr. Strange movie. I would pay to watch that any day of the week.
