It seems those still a bit sore about Bryan Singer's treatment of Superman aren't so annoyed that they're unwilling to give him another shot at the Mutants, as the favorite to take over from Matthew Vaughn on the X-Men: First Class sequel is also the favorite - by a large majority - in our poll. Singer came first with a whopping 1,005 Votes (43.10%). Fans must have been very impressed with how J.J. Abrams handled the melding of new and old Star Trek universes as he came in second with 354 Votes (15.18%), and just beating Duncan Jones with 163 Votes (6.99%) was Looper director Rian Johnson. Brett Ratner got 88 Votes, I'm assuming as some sort of sick Halloween prank..

That's extremely proper. I'm confident that Singer can still handle the X-Men property well - X-Men: First Class was partly his responsibility after all - and say what you want to say about the man, but he makes good movies. Give it to him.
IDKwhatToChoose - 10/28/2012, 6:45 AM
He makes good movies except movies that start with Super and end with Man
jazzman - 10/28/2012, 6:46 AM
Singer knows how to do x-men movies cause he is a fan but he was never a fan of Superman comics
CaptainAmerica31 - 10/28/2012, 6:46 AM
Yea sure why not? But is Matthew Vaughn anti sequel or something
Jolt17 - 10/28/2012, 6:51 AM
I don't hate Superman Returns, but I understand how people see it as a bad adaptation of the character...that maybe is true, but as a movie alone, I fail to see how it's THAT bad in any aspect!

So yeah, I still believe in Singer.
jazzman - 10/28/2012, 6:58 AM

Superman Returns was bad he did not even try and make a different Superman that stands on its on. he just copy Donner version of Superman.
jazzman - 10/28/2012, 6:59 AM

come on Green Lantern was terrible they should of done better.
hayyam - 10/28/2012, 7:00 AM
Whenever I see a director poll on this site, I always see same names. I'm gonna say names like Jeff Nicholes, Tomas Alfredson or Rupert Wyatt. Yeah, how about some different names, right?
jazzman - 10/28/2012, 7:02 AM

they do have OTHER in the poll lol
GOTG - 10/28/2012, 7:05 AM
Superman Returns IS the best superman movie, dunno why everyone is always complaining about it
Giznad - 10/28/2012, 7:07 AM
@jazzman, he never was a fan of ANY comic books. Not X-Men, not Superman, not anything. He's in it for the money. I'm not hatin' on his directorial skills, cuz they're ok, but don't say something that's not true. I have the dvds, i know what he says.
Christuffer - 10/28/2012, 7:11 AM
Ridley that would be interesting
Danbojohnj - 10/28/2012, 7:17 AM
Back to boring black leathers
XavierLehnsherr - 10/28/2012, 7:18 AM
This is why trolls and haters try so hard to live in the moment.

Because nothing they say ever matters, lol.
Name - 10/28/2012, 7:20 AM
Giznad, i dont see why these directors, actors have to be fans of the medium beforehand.
ShadowOfTheWeb - 10/28/2012, 7:31 AM
Awww man. I was so pumped for this movie. God speed Bryan Singer
Giznad - 10/28/2012, 7:33 AM
@Name, they don't. In fact, it could be better that way. But I heard from Singer that he was never a fan of comics, so I just wanted to set it straight. The best actors in these franchises are usually never fans of the comics, so perhaps being a fan could distort one's efforts and focus.
IronSpider101 - 10/28/2012, 7:36 AM
I felt Green Lantern was affable. Not loveable, not hateable.

I actually feel it was the second best CBM of that year after Captain America, though. Thor was [frick]ing awful (they did great in Avengers, though), and First class was half-great, and half awful (terrible action, dialogue, acting on the part of a few). Green Lantern was okay, but it was consistent okay. Cap was great, maybe my favourite Marvel Studios movie.

I feel like Singer made the only consistently good X-Men film: X2. And now that it's in First Class terrirtory, it can stop being a Matrix Rip-Off and be something truly great.
Maximus101 - 10/28/2012, 7:42 AM
Both green lantern and captain America were both crap.
jazzman - 10/28/2012, 7:58 AM

Cap aint crap its not great but its more watchable compare to Green Lantern. also at least Cap getting a sequel LOL
mctrinket - 10/28/2012, 8:00 AM
Singer may be the most overrated filmmaker in the business.
Jolt17 - 10/28/2012, 8:05 AM
Pux: Exactly. Although I'd say that Green Lantern is not that "smooth" a movie as there are some parts of it that were undeniably bad, its biggest weakness is indeed the disappointment.

jazzman: It's indeed pretty point, however, is that characters, loyalty to the material source, and all that aside, as a movie alone Superman Returns isn't, say, painful to watch! It utilizes great visuals, decent script, great performances, and all other aspects of the movie are strong enough to make it a watchable movie, to say the least.

Sure, it isn't the best Superman adaptation if not a terrible one - that depends on each's opinion - but my point is that it's supposed to fall under the "Good movie, not a good CBM," category rather than the "One of the worst of all time," one.
ManofSteel23 - 10/28/2012, 8:12 AM
Superman returns was not a bad film,it's just wasn't the film everyone wanted superman to be in
INSTANTJUSTICE - 10/28/2012, 8:15 AM

I'm sure after the huge success that will be "Jack the Giant Killer/Slayer", Singer will be first choice.

TheBigBoss917 - 10/28/2012, 8:39 AM
WTF is up with these choices? Ridley Scott? make the shit realistic at least.
continuezero - 10/28/2012, 8:45 AM
Who da eff voted for Rattner? You should be banned from the site if you did.
PirateOpossum - 10/28/2012, 8:46 AM
.... singer should quit. Worst director in comic book movies.
spurtability - 10/28/2012, 8:50 AM
In the end it doesn't matter who directs, FOX has ABSOLUTELY NO RESPECT to the source material. The x-men onscreen have been powered down, neutered, clumsy looking, with blink and you'll miss it action sequences. Take Havoc for example, they couldn't even get his proper firing stance or the color of his plasma burst(blue). More hula hoop Havoc, anyone??
xXkryptoniteXx - 10/28/2012, 9:00 AM
Bryan Singer will do great in coming back and helming another Xmen movie. He did give us X2 and it is still one of the best film in the franchise close to Xmen first class, and he was part of that to as a producer and story.

I did like Superman but it wasn't the superman we wanted, we wanted a new take on superman. Also remember he did bring back superman from what Tim burtons original idea was. Know some backgrounds and facts before saying anything about his take on superman.

Tim burtons superman?
J.J abrams Superman Flyby (Which Lex is a kryptonian and Krypton is still around.)
McG's Superman? seriously McG? the corporate director? WB's tool?
Brett Ratner? Okay that guys a hack of director. Only good movie he made is Family Man, Rush Hour 1 & 2. That's it.

Please no.......
AC1 - 10/28/2012, 9:14 AM
It's funny how a majority of users on this site used to bitch about Bryan Singer and his X-Men films, yet suddenly everyone wants him to return to the franchise.

I liked his two X-Men films, but I'm not sure I want him back for this one. It seems he works better in helping develop the story rather than directing, and I think if he returned it might seem like a step backward.
ricko8687 - 10/28/2012, 9:18 AM
Singer will do the X-Men justice,, he's familiar with the characters, but he's got to really bring the action and show how this team fight as a group, give Whedon a call
Tomontherun99 - 10/28/2012, 9:20 AM
If you all hate Fox so much the answer is simple. Just stop watching the their movies. Don't like their Marvel movies? You're all the ones that payed to watch the X-franchise and made it a success. If they personally offend you that much just read the comics or watch the animated series.
LoudNoises - 10/28/2012, 9:43 AM
I'll take Singer over Vaughn all day. Watching other directors butcher the X-Men movies has given me a great appreciation for what Singer accomplished. I have struggled over the last 2 years to figure out one thing I liked about First Class, but it is just so painful for me to watch. X2 was easily the best in the series, followed by the first X-men movie. It's a toss up between X-Men United and First Class for dead last IMO.
Newbus - 10/28/2012, 9:45 AM
"It's funny how a majority of users on this site used to bitch about Bryan Singer and his X-Men films, yet suddenly everyone wants him to return to the franchise."

Not me I didn't vote for him. X1 was ok for its time but now showing its age. X2 was only good in Whitehouse scene but that's it. Wasted Rogue, wasted Cyclops, wasted Colussus, wasted Riptide, wasted Havock?? They put him in the First Class film and the character is wasted. Angel Salvatore wasted. She can't possibly come back in a sequel.

Hated Superman Returns - Singer left X3 to do a remake of Superman 1 and disguise it as sequel with a bit Dragonball Z added to the mix. Wasted Lex Luthor henchmen. Did any of them say anything in the film? He could be putting characters to good use but insteads wastes them on stupid longwinded shots or excessive periods of no dialogue - use the time develop characters!!!

The fact that Vaughn has walked out a second time shows that producers can't get their s*** together when it comes to XMen films. A script with no director - wait a minute! Is there a script??

KeithM - 10/28/2012, 9:46 AM
Superman Returns WAS a bad film. Script was poor, story was full of holes, characterisation was inconsistent or just plain wrong, it was drab, boring, and so on and so on. It had nothing to do with "not enough action" or "not the Superman we wanted". It was just a badly made, badly written, badly acted, bad movie.

Of course you're free to disagree, but you'd be wrong.

That doesn't mean he can't do a good X-Men film again, but I do think Returns showed a degree of incompetence in Directing (and especially writing) that would and will concern me until proven otherwise. Don't bother throwing films he did in the past that were good. M Night Shalyaman and George Lucas did good stuff before they used up all their mojo and became crap too. Just saying. Open to being proven wrong, but will remain a little sceptical until then.

marvel72 - 10/28/2012, 9:52 AM

PenditaMarah - 10/28/2012, 10:02 AM
Let emma watson direct the new x men sequel! Bring her!!
fortycals - 10/28/2012, 10:22 AM
Here we go again thinking that only marvel can respect the source material. I guess its easy to respect the source material when you can change the source matrial to match your MCU. Black leather, I guess, works for Hawkeye and shield agents. Why not the same hate for Hawkeye, and black widow being founding members of avengers, but not Hank and janet.

I just wonder sometimes how was singer ever disrepectfull to the xmen.Because he didnt put them in their 1970s costume. Because he didnt tell the same story you've read already a hundred times. So I guess yall hate every artist who changes a costume, or every writer to tell their own story. I wonder how you felt about Old Man Logan, or Len Wein for that matter.
BSingerFoxMen - 10/28/2012, 11:28 AM
Why not? Not like there's a whole lot more they can do to screw up this franchise.
