Simon Kinberg Teases Reason Behind Professor X Walking In X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Fans have been baffled as to why James McAvoy's Charles Xavier can be seen both in his wheelchair and walking about in X-Men: Days of Future Past, but writer Simon Kinberg sheds some light on that. He also comments on those rumours about a standalone Mystique movie starring Jennifer Lawrence!

The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The beloved characters from the original X-Men film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from X-Men: First Class, in an epic battle that must change the past to save our future.

X-Men: Days of Future Past's huge all-star cast includes Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Lawrence, Daniel Cudmore, Nicholas Hoult, Peter Dinklage, Halle Berry, Adan Canto, Anna Paquin, Evan Peters and Ellen Page, and is set to be released on May 23rd, 2014.

So this movie isn't about Wolverine? Yeah!
Giznad - 4/20/2014, 5:12 PM
Oh, what I always wanted. A Mystique movie. Jennifer
Giznad - 4/20/2014, 5:15 PM
COREY, maybe it was Bishop actually. Cuz I heard there was a scene where Kitty teleports him.
AlexanderLykins - 4/20/2014, 5:15 PM
Can someone explain what he says. I'm having problems watching the video.
MarvelWeiner - 4/20/2014, 5:16 PM
Simon Kinberg and David Goyer should work on a movie together... ;p
beane2099 - 4/20/2014, 5:20 PM
Yeah, yeah, everyone's got an arc. But here's the important question: is Wolverine in this movie?
maynard3eye - 4/20/2014, 5:26 PM
write articles don't just post links to videos. i couldve read one sentance in under a second, im not scrolling through a boring video to find out why proffesor can walk. you have a news website, write some news.
AlexanderLykins - 4/20/2014, 5:29 PM
I don't think you'll be disappointed. We also get to see him with no shirt on, which must have been a real treat for Mr. Singer.
Ranger14 - 4/20/2014, 5:34 PM
Alexander@ Basically...the Xavier storyline focuses on how he...(here's the spoilers)

Lost his legs...lost his sister...lost his hope...lost his hair...whoops, they forgot about that last one. :-p

Lawrence couldn't carry a slo film unless it were based on an overly popular best-selling novel for teens.

englandlover77 - 4/20/2014, 5:35 PM
Here's a hint as to why he's walking: IT'S A TIME TRAVEL MOVIE.

@Ranger14 - That last sentence...priceless.

Yeah, that video was a waste of my life. ?Oh well, just wasting time until the next Game of Thrones anyway.
Ranger14 - 4/20/2014, 5:37 PM
Agghh! Solo film...

I really don't care for McAvoy, so I didn't want to hear the film focuses a lot on his character.
Ocelot - 4/20/2014, 5:38 PM
So he's ashamed about being a cripple in addition to losing Mystique and Magneto. So hits the booze and becomes self-loathing as a result?.

It's obvious that he has to sacrifice his telepathic powers if he want's to walk, so at the end he'll have to embrace his disability.
CinemaHero - 4/20/2014, 5:39 PM
Yeah...they better have a mind-blowingly good reason for Xavier to be walking around and throwing punches.

It seemed like they left his character in a good place at the end of First Class, I totally get that he would be a bit bummed about losing everything, but the way he was developed over the movie, it felt like he was moving beyond his own needs and desires and becoming the Professor X we all know and love.

Now he's like a pissed off, British version of Lt. Dan with legs.

AlexanderLykins - 4/20/2014, 5:40 PM
Thanks guys.
marvel72 - 4/20/2014, 5:42 PM
so wolverine tells professor x about the future for mutantkind & the sentinels in the 70s,but has no knowledge of meeting wolverine in the first x-men movie or any of the events in the original trilogy.
CombatWombat - 4/20/2014, 5:42 PM
funny how Fox is pushing Kinberg to replace Singer as the apparent creative director behind this movie

Actually excited for FF. Capable cast, and I hope Josh Trank does a good job directing it, the only thing I'm sceptical of is the script.
DaVinci31 - 4/20/2014, 5:55 PM
Good to hear him say that Xavier's Arc is the foundation for DOFP, I could never have predicted that out of all of the X-Men (film) characters, Professor X would become the most interesting to me.

I just really love how they are presenting and telling his life.

And plus, you know, James McAvoy, brah.

SoftNumNums - 4/20/2014, 5:57 PM
Its probly a scene where he is inside his own head.
zippiesdrainage - 4/20/2014, 6:00 PM
Shit continuity=Shit movie
TheRationalNerd - 4/20/2014, 6:10 PM
Just came from chatting with people over at IGN. Everyone's looking toward to DoFP and Apocalypde seems to have people more intrigued with what younger characters they can include next!
KallarkKent - 4/20/2014, 6:23 PM
So my guess about why Xavier is on the chair and walking is... don't read because this might be it...

Beginning of guess

Xavier makes everyone see him like he is walking by using his powers but he is the chair the whole time, perhaps its supposed to be a Sixth Sense type of twist. Although this might not make sense it doesn't explain how Xavier can punch Eric on the face during the prison break. I guess we'll see.

end of guess

Also, not sure how to feel about the idea that Fox wants to focus more on spin offs rather than a CrossoVerse.
xXkryptoniteXx - 4/20/2014, 6:26 PM
Bring it on, it better deliver!
PunkRockJesus - 4/20/2014, 6:29 PM

What he said
blippyboy - 4/20/2014, 6:58 PM
Um...are we just going to tease the whole movie before we even get to see it...with the multiple trailers and all I feel I've seen it all already. :/
SuperDude001 - 4/20/2014, 7:10 PM
Yeah this video was pointless...but looking through the comments and the comment from Kinberg that he's going to accept being in the chair, I think I've worked how most likely he does it.
With everyone that's happened to him, the mutant mission, losing Mystique, losing his legs, etc, he's become highly depressed. Unable to cope he projects in everyone's minds that he's walking and as Erik isn't wearing the helmet that's how he hits him (simply manipulate Erik's mind to believe he's been hit). I mean we see him in the chair through the trailer as well so seems likely it's a projection and he's just elsewhere nearby in the chair. I was going to say the only problem with this is how could Wolverine see him 'walking' with the Adamantium skull stopping the telepathy but just realised he's back to the bone claws and healing only - no metal (maybe that's why they did it).
SuperDude001 - 4/20/2014, 7:12 PM
And off the subject of the article I will agree it is annoying to have to watch the video when I could read one sentence. Not saying you should just write one sentence but text would be much more appreciated in my opinion, otherwise CBM is just a proxy site and I might as well just go to IGN or these other sites.
geronimo16200 - 4/20/2014, 7:12 PM
everyone forgetting that he died put his mind into the body of his twin's body who's mind was gone in X3(Stupid frakkin movie!!! Rush Hour?!?! Seriously did they think the directer of Rush Hour was a good fit? Raised my hopes so high and then just crapped all over them. God I hate that movie!!! Come on you told yourself you would move on. They did a pretty good job with First Class and The Wolverine and now it looks like they will again with this one. You told yourself to forgive that trauma and move on. Ok then, sorry about that got a little off track there, back to my theory) Kinda thinking since he's broken he doesn't care about misusing his powers right now and is just using his twin's body. They are gonna have to explain how he's back from the dead and that's probably part of it.
ibravosp5 - 4/20/2014, 7:15 PM
I think it should work...quality isn't too bad neither
Marxman12 - 4/20/2014, 7:24 PM
X-3 wasn't that bad. Origins was easily the worst X-Men movie. Blaming Ratner is a bit pointless. He didn't write the script. X-3 wouldn't have been much different had Singer stayed to direct.
MightyZeus - 4/20/2014, 7:54 PM
How awesome, a Mystique film. I know that Jennifer Lawrence is popular but the character she plays does not deserve a film.

I think how Charles can walk is by projecting the fact that he can walk and it's an illusion. He's really still in a wheel chair.
m0th3r - 4/20/2014, 8:12 PM
Sounds like mumbo jumbo to me...they have [frick]ed this up..If it was a solid reason he would not need such a round robin response..
geronimo16200 - 4/20/2014, 8:19 PM

Good lord dude, do you take everything so serious? Couldn't tell I was being over dramatic for effect?
