THE WOLVERINE Storyboards & Description Of Deleted Action Scene; Plus VFX Breakdown

The website, Film Sketchr, has scored some sweet storyboards and an interview with John Coven. The artwork depicts scenes with the Silver Samurai, ninjas, and Viper. While I also came across another visual effects breakdown video. This one from Shade VFX.

Below, you will find storyboards from James Mangold's The Wolverine, created by John Coven. The first set of storyboards feature ninjas and Logan. As a reminder, before that scene takes place Logan has removed a robotic parasite from his heart, which allows his accelerated healing power to kick in. He then heads off to rescue Mariko, who is being held at a Yashida facility built next to a Japanese village. This is where Harada confronts Logan, asking him to leave, but it doesn't doesn't deter our adamantium-clad hero. When Harada realizes that Logan is healing like his old self he orders his legion of ninjas to use poison-tipped arrows to bring Logan down, and it works.

While the second set of storyboards, is of the climactic battle with Silver Samurai. I don't really want to go into great detail, as there are a lot of surprises for those that haven't seen the film. But, one scene we didn't get to see is discussed in Film Sketchr's interview with John Coven.

John Coven: The ninja motorbike fight was a collaboration with Dave Leitch, our second unit director/stunt coordinator. He was rehearsing with the stunt riders in the parking lot of Fox Studios Australia where we were shooting. He'd tape the rehearsals and I'd watch the tapes. Then I'd draw up additional ideas and propose them to Dave and Jim Mangold, our director.

The bike fight was in the cut right up until just before the film's release. It was cut from the movie at the last minute. I hear it's going to be included in the DVD version.

TheWolverine08 - 9/16/2013, 5:25 PM
@BlackJack10 Alan Taylor is a great director, Chris Hemsworth is a perfect, Loki is a great villain, etc. I think Thor: The Dark World has the tools to be the best CBM of 2013.
TheWolverine08 - 9/16/2013, 5:25 PM
Thor was so badass hre!

TheDARKestKNIGHT - 9/16/2013, 5:35 PM

I loved the movie, but I wished Wolvie actually fought those ninjas.
TheWolverine08 - 9/16/2013, 5:48 PM
Alan Taylor's Game of Thrones episodes he directed are awesome, and prof tha he can get the mythological aspect of Thor down, it's pretty unique to have an anti hero (Loki) as the main villain in a CBM as opposed to a completely bad villain. The reshoots did cause me to look twice, but I think this movie will be great.
McNyagano - 9/16/2013, 5:50 PM

Just relax and we'll see how it all plays out :D
DurtyTalynt - 9/16/2013, 6:37 PM

Nobody is ever gonna realize how jaw droppingly retarded The Wolverine was. Although i do get entertained by descriptions of the scenes that people supposedly praise about these direct to vhs xmen movies.
JoJo1982 - 9/16/2013, 6:53 PM
The biggest surpise this summer...... It also gets better the more times I see it. The uncut version I can see it being a classic, with even more action and blood
JoJo1982 - 9/16/2013, 6:56 PM
Thor 2 hasn't shown any "oh shit!!!" Moments in any of the previews, hopefully they have it in the full film, cause if not, then I don't know.
JoJo1982 - 9/16/2013, 6:59 PM

Yes in the uncut DVD version, a Wolverine vs the ninjas will be restore back in the movie. This has been said before from the director himself
McNyagano - 9/16/2013, 7:18 PM

You can't be certain of that. -_-
novaprime - 9/16/2013, 8:12 PM
