Hugh Jackman Discusses The Possibility Of The Wolverine Being R Rated!

In a new interview actor Hugh Jackman discussed how he feels about the possibility of the next movie in the franchise being R Rated.

MTV recently sat down with Hugh Jackman and the Aussie actor revealed that although he would like to see an R rated Wolverine movie, they can't forget about the little uns..

"There’s such great temptation to make an R rated Wolverine.” says Jackman. “I’ve always felt that and I know a lot of fans would like that and I totally get it. If there is ever a superhero that’s going to be R rated, it’s Wolverine. However in the last 10 years I’ve also met many 12, 13, 14, 15 year olds who for them Wolverine is not just cool you see it in their eyes, he’s everything to them."

“My thing to [director] James Mangold, we were like ‘lets not put it off the table.’” Jackman continues. “There’s even talk about us doing 2 versions as in finding a way to do both while you shoot it, which could be really cool. But you need to have a really good reason to exclude those [younger] fans.”

Hugh Jackman will star in The Wolverine, the movie is a prequel and will be set in Japan, it will explore the past of the mutant as a Samurai, with Silver Samurai confirmed as the villain. No official release date yet

Yeah! I would enjoy this movie more than those kids, so screw them! I'm way more important!
seaman - 10/10/2011, 1:26 PM
nah man think of it if it has a wider audience then it makes more money and we get more films out of them no brainer duh!
Boyle360 - 10/10/2011, 1:32 PM
It really should be rated R. But doing two versions would be cool! You know it could get a lot of focus on the movie publicly!

It'd be cool to see two versions - release a PG13 version in theaters, and an R/unrated cut on DVD.
Fogs - 10/10/2011, 1:53 PM
Last but not least,

Hugh Jackman is full of shit!

I don't believe a single sentence of what he says.
blvdnoise - 10/10/2011, 1:56 PM
un-rated blu-ray release??
marvel72 - 10/10/2011, 1:57 PM
@ paulrom

i agree,two versions one for the kiddies & r-rated blu-ray directors cut.
NeoBaggins - 10/10/2011, 1:59 PM
lol This dude is working over-time trying to make this sound cool.
Jordanstine - 10/10/2011, 2:00 PM
In today's society, it R-rated movies 5 years ago are now considered PG-13 today.

I remember when "F_CK" wouldn't be allowed on movie cinemas no higher than "R", but Hugh Jackman just said that on "PG-13" X-Men First Class.

I also remember when the word "ASS" was bleeped on WWE TV shows, now it's basically in every segment.

Greengo - 10/10/2011, 2:00 PM
Its not about doing more after this (as this will likely be the last one) it's about making $ so it WILL be pg-13.

That said they could film it to be r-rated and edit it down to pg13 in post.
Greengo - 10/10/2011, 2:02 PM
@Jordanstine: great observation and I totally agree.

Society is being dumbed down to violence profanity & sex.
TheMadman - 10/10/2011, 2:04 PM
R-Rated "Hugh's Cut"? ;)
Fogs - 10/10/2011, 2:06 PM
NeoBaggins - true. BTW, I have nothing against him being Wolverine, I only think visually he should be smaller with CG and/or camera tricks.

But I can't stand this defensive stance he takes on this new movie. He knows X3 and Origins sucked and keeps giving away these false arguments fans want to hear.

Mr. Jackman, just deliver us a real Wolverine movie. Read the old comics as you now say you always did (lies, btw) and try to understand why fans love that character. It's not because he's good-looking. Not just because of his claws, like Origins emphasized so much in every action / stunt scene. It's because he's uncontrollable and the ultimate bad ass. And has great story.

Shit, even the 90's cartoon was 500% more faithful to the character.
ThatFan - 10/10/2011, 2:07 PM
I would love a R rated Wolverine movie, but if it is PG-13 I'll still be happy :)
TheRedSkull - 10/10/2011, 2:07 PM
Yeah do it!
Misterfan - 10/10/2011, 2:10 PM
DOOOOOOOOOO ITTTTTTTTTTTT!!
MikeZ - 10/10/2011, 2:10 PM
You'd have to have Marvel buy the rights back for that to happen. No way would 20th Century Fox allow something cool like this... I think, because after X-Men: First Class, they could very well be returning back to classic status.

But an R-rated Wolverine movie has to happen, as far as I'm concerned.
ClarkFarley2012 - 10/10/2011, 2:10 PM
I would love to see a rated R Wolvy movie would be cool. I'll believe it when I see it. Get Jet Li to be Silver Samurai.
SomCin - 10/10/2011, 2:15 PM
There are so many pg and pg13 superhero movies... R rate it!!!
Bandrews1 - 10/10/2011, 2:15 PM
An R rated Wolverine movie would be awesome, to me I think that's way it should be.
thewolfx - 10/10/2011, 2:19 PM

its time to indulge wolverines adult fans for onces

i wanna see hugh covered in blood in a berserker rage damnit!
Minghagz - 10/10/2011, 2:22 PM
I want to see heads roll. The Wolverine game they came out with after Origins had some pretty "R-rated" material, if placed in the cinema, and a lot kids probably played that game so I see no reason why not to film an R-rated movie?
McGribble - 10/10/2011, 2:23 PM
Personally I think it should be. The fact of the matter is he has freaking claws that would slice up anyone he is fighting. There would be A LOT of blood. Language is secondary, yes it could be part of it because wolverine is a pretty blue collar kind of guy. He is going to use some strong language. That said, as others have posted... A PG-13 theater release with and NR DVD and Blueray release would be the best. All the kids he is talking about can see it and be entertained, but then we all get what we want when we can bring it home.
seedslinger - 10/10/2011, 2:32 PM
Jesus, enough talking, just get on with this film already!
WarnerBrother - 10/10/2011, 2:35 PM
An R-rated Wolverine film has disaster written all over it. Hollywood gave in to
fanboys when they made an R-rated "Watchmen" which had a huge opening weekend then dropped off the map because the majority of adults who think comic book films
are for kids couldn't take their kids to the film and had no interest to see it themselves. After that experience,no studio is going to drop 150 million or more into producing a Superhero film with out making it accessible to the widest possible audience.Perhaps Jackman may be on to something if FOX releases a PG-13 version to theaters to get families and later putting out an unrated version for Blu-ray.
sbdc1939 - 10/10/2011, 2:35 PM
r rated would make alot of superheros movies better and wolverine is deffinatly one of them. Jackman should be covered in blood from start to finish man..
m0th3r - 10/10/2011, 2:36 PM
Sorry....another bad sign of indecisiveness at Fox Studios. I know i rant and hate them openly, but this is the first in a series of clues that this will be another giant pile of poo....id like to see an R wolverine movie myself..Blood and guys a-la Rambo style...but then i wake up
BigTodd71 - 10/10/2011, 2:37 PM
man this is talkiong out his butt!!!
darkjoker1 - 10/10/2011, 2:40 PM
make it happen :D i would to see an R rated wolverine movie it would be badass :D
TheBatman938865 - 10/10/2011, 2:47 PM
see thats what i thought too...because my little brother likes Wolverine a lot to...wait...I'm 21 now..i could take him to see rated r movies now without them telling me I'm to young to take him..never mind lol

PsyGuy - 10/10/2011, 2:57 PM
The two versions thing is an awesome idea!
GUNSMITH - 10/10/2011, 3:00 PM
2 VERSIONS WOULD BE COOL..IN THEATERS: PG13 VERSION THEN MAKE MORE MONEY WITH A BLUE RAY SPECIAL EDITION WITH ALTERNATE R "BERSERKER" R RATED VERSION
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 10/10/2011, 3:04 PM
And while they're at making this movie R rated (which I doubt, cuz it's Fox), give us the freaking suit!!!
Mrcool210 - 10/10/2011, 3:05 PM
knowing fox and how stupid the yare an r rated wolverine movie wont happen
headlopper - 10/10/2011, 3:11 PM
Now I KNOW he read my editorial here at CBM!
Yeah, Hugh being were're on a first name basis, here's my next bit of sage advice- GO BERSERKER AT LEAST ONCE IN THE MOVIE! I MEAN REALLY CUT LOOSE! LET OUT THE ANIMAL, MAN! Here's the scenario: You're surrounded by Hand assassins and Silver Samurai has a katana to Yuriki throat and IS going to kill her-for whatever reason- and Wolverine just SNAPS! Nuff' said.
Number1Wolverine - 10/10/2011, 3:16 PM
This just keeps on sounding better, but we all know the movie itself of course will be pg13. But hopefully we will get a rated r directors cut.
BlairCo - 10/10/2011, 3:18 PM
After playing the 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' game, I thought 'That's the way Wolverine should be portrayed'. Hopefully Wolverine will get the R Rating it deserves.
SuperSpiderMan5778 - 10/10/2011, 3:18 PM
fawk the little ones....

how's that for Rated R?
